Whether you’re heading off on a cycling holiday, taking your electric bike to explore new trails, or simply bringing it along for a weekend away, travelling with your ride can open up exciting possibilities. Travellers love to travel. However, ironically, travelling causes carbon emissions. Therefore, people should ensure that they travel without harming nature. However, when you travel with an electric bike, you stay confident that no matter what happens, you will not be emitting carbon.  But, yeah… there’s a catch. Traveling with one can be a bit of a headache. Batteries, packing, weight limits, all that stuff. Still, if you plan ahead just a little, it’s not so bad.  Moreover, your bike will get there in one piece, and you’ll be ready to ride without drama. Let’s go over what actually matters. Understand The Rules Before You Go First thing—rules. Every airline, ferry, train company, you name it—they’ve all got their own take on e-bikes, especially the batteries. Lithium packs are where the real limits are. Some places want them off the bike, others only allow certain sizes.  And here’s the kicker: it changes country to country. Something fine in Spain might be banned in Canada. The only safe bet? Ask your carrier before you go. Hence, the travellers should get everything checked in the first place, as it will prevent any sudden problems while shipping. Chain oiled? Electronics behaving? If something feels off, fix it now, not halfway through your holiday. For the battery, don’t leave it full or empty—half-ish charged (30–60%) is the sweet spot. Most travel rules want it removed anyway. Moreover, strip off extras like mirrors, lights, bells… anything that sticks out. And honestly, give the bike a quick clean. Dirt might seem harmless, but some countries are strict on biosecurity. Moreover, the last thing you want is customs giving you grief over a muddy tyre. Plan out the spots for charging and halts while you travel on your bike. 2. Packing Your E-Bike Safely How you pack decides how your bike comes out on the other end. Hard-shell case? Best protection, but heavier. Soft padded bag? Lighter and easier to stash, just not quite as bombproof.  Moreover, inside, pad everything. Wrap delicate bits, lock down the bars, pedals, and wheels so nothing shifts. Tape or foam is your friend here. Don’t forget to tag it with your name and number, maybe toss on a “Fragile” sticker. However, people should ensure that they get plenty of padding to prevent their bikes from getting unnecessarily damaged.  3. Tips For Travelling By Car Or Train Road and rail are a bit easier. For cars, you’ll need a rack strong enough for e-bike weight (don’t assume a cheap one will do). If it’s exposed, cover it.  Rain, dust, and even little stones from the road can mess things up. Inside a car? Strap it down so it doesn’t bounce around. Trains… well, they’re hit or miss.  Moreover, some have bike spots, some don’t. Check before you get to the station—it’s no fun trying to squeeze an e-bike into a crowded carriage last minute. Cover your e-bike when it is exposed to a car. Moreover, you should not depend on the weather.  4. Flying With Your E-Bike Flying’s the tricky part. Airlines are strict about batteries. Big ones often aren’t allowed in checked luggage.  Sometimes you can carry it separately, sometimes you need to ship it. Either way, don’t wing it—talk to the airline weeks ahead, not days.  Pack the bike in a proper travel case, keep it under their weight limits, and protect every part. Once you land, take your time putting it back together.  Better to double-check than to find out a brake cable snapped on your first ride. 5. Extra Gear To Bring Along A few small tools can save your trip. Toss in a multitool, tyre levers, mini pump, maybe a spare tube or two.  Charger’s a must, plus an adapter if you’re heading abroad (easy to forget). A little cleaning cloth or kit helps too, especially after rainy rides.  Nothing fancy—just enough to keep things running smoothly. Moreover, ensure that the entire thing remains in control so that your trip does not get ruined just because of a missing spare. Travelling with an electric bike always demands carrying extra spares with you to ensure proper safety. 6. Common Mistakes To Avoid The stuff people forget is usually simple. Don’t leave your battery fully charged before storing—it wears it out faster.  Watch those weight limits; e-bikes aren’t light. Skip insurance? Big mistake. And honestly, the worst habit is last-minute packing.  Moreover, you rush, something gets left behind, or worse, you break something trying to jam it in. Seen it happen more than once. For the longest time, Air Canada and WestJet have been dominating the Canadian airline industry, which has led to the prevalence of high airfare. However, with the emergence of new contenders, things are finally changing. Flair Airlines is one such competitor of the legacy airlines that have a strong hold on the Canadian Airline industry. It is a low-cost carrier that has been expanding its operations during the pandemic to include U.S. travel hotspots like Arizona, Florida, California, and Nevada, continuing to operate on an extensive Canadian route network that covers most major cities in the country. Here is my brief take on the Flair Airlines experience I had. Keep reading because this is going to be very useful. My Experience Of Flair Airlines Image Source: assets.bwbx.io Here is a first-hand experience or a Flair Airlines review of the recent travel I had flying from Toronto to Montreal. Read on to know if it was worth it. Booking Image Source: thepointsguy.global.ssl.fastly.net I booked my flight on Google Flights, searching for the cheapest flight from Toronto to Montreal. On my date of flight, both Flair and Air Canada had early morning flights, and yet Flair was priced at half of the Air Canada ticket. There was, of course, the added benefit of a full-size carry-on bag but even on a standard fee, Air Canada would be charging for seat selection. Flair is a solid selection if you are traveling light, even if it includes seat selection. The Flair Airlines baggage policy is a little icky if you are traveling heavy instead. A one-way flight on December 15 via Flair costs 40. Whereas WestJet’s and Air Canada’s cheapest flights are $135. I had to pay a minimum of $7.90 for seat selection. All of Flair’s Toronto flights depart from Terminal 3, so that is where I did my check-in. Flair has a few baggage drops and check-in counters located in the center of the terminal. The airport was mostly empty, given the wee hours we were departing (7:30 a.m.) There were some shops open despite the timings, so I got a coffee and yogurt from Starbucks and sat away from the crowd for some uninterrupted breakfast. Flair does not have its own lounges. Cabins And Seats Image Source: thepointsguy.global.ssl.fastly.net The flight was one of Flair’s three 737-800 (read tiny) aircraft. The airline operates with economy-only cabins suited for its ultra-low-cost carrier. The interiors were nondescript and spotless. It is simply designed without any frills like over or seatback displays. The flight was made with the intention of taking a passenger from point A to point B. The seats were comfy enough at the cost I paid. They did not recline, but they were not as slim as other similar carriers in the U.S. The extra padding on the seats helped ease the other small space. The leg room was commendably larger than its other similarly ranged carriers. It also had a full-size tray that could easily fit a 16-inch Macbook Pro. Spirit Airlines offers only a small drink tray. Keeping that in mind, have your devices on a full charge and make sure to get a window seat to keep yourself entertained for these otherwise short flights. The food and beverage services could get you to pay $2.75 for a soda and $5.50 for a Molson beer. A coffee would cost $2.35. All that after currency conversion. The airline’s internet service is also set to launch soon so that too can be an attraction for travelers. Flair’s rapid expansion is on its way to breaking through the expensive air carrier industry with its budget-friendly approach. Lake Clark National Park is committed to subsistence. It’s a sincere effort not to impact the “physical and spiritual culture of Modern Alaska.” Further, the park authority wants to pass on the park’s history to the future generation and the public. So, it was not surprising when the park sought public opinion on the exploration of its mineral tracts (Johnson Tract).  Located in the Johnson River headwater, Johnson Tract is a polymetallic project, and mining of gold, silver, copper, zinc, and lead is possible here. Public comments on “transportation and port site easements” are invited so that there is better accessibility to Johnson Tract. However, the more important aspect of it is analyzing the environmental impact of the project on the park.  There will be the following activities, and the analysis report will likely be published in the fall of 2024.  Hydrological assessment Geotechnical assessment Surveys of cultural and natural resources  But that’s not all! There have been many published stories, such as “Dena'ina Ełnena,” “Canneries, Cabins, Caches,” and more on this national park. Moreover, storytelling by the Native community or the tradition of oral storytelling is still alive here as a part of the “University of Alaska Fairbanks program.”  The things I have discussed so far show how the park is focused on preserving its personal and shared identities. Now, I will delve into some related details and also talk about what makes Lake Clark National Park special in terms of places to visit and things to do.  Preserving History And Culture At Lake Clark National Park  Do you know the original name of Lake Clark? Dena’ina people call it “Qizhjeh Vena,” meaning “a place where people gathered lake.”  Further, the people of Dena’ina, or Athabascan culture, have made this region their home for thousands of years now. How they see the lake and the surrounding land as the main resource of their lives will change the common perspectives about this national park. It is not just a preserved space with wilderness, interesting landscapes, and scenic beauty! It is an account of human history.  Women were always taught to be independent in this culture. They knew how to set snares and ground squirrels. This was an important exercise so that they had to never be dependent on others for food.  Athabascan people, originally from Alaska, started residing here. Further, with time, they encountered people from Russia, the USA, Canada, and Western Europe. Thus, their way of living evolved. However, they have made an effort to preserve their old way of living, and subsistence is still the key to their lives.  I have already mentioned how the oral and written stories preserve the cultural spirit of the park for posterity. Further, the Natural and Cultural Museum of the park preserves many artifacts, geological samples, and ethnographic items so that you can learn about the physical, spiritual, and cultural transformations.  Here is a breakdown of the total 248,402 items preserved at the museum. The names in Dena’ina are crucial if you want to understand their significance and the story behind them. Here’s a brief list of the historical places to visit in this park.  Dena’ina Tinitun or Trails  Ancestral Telaquana Trail Tanalian Point Hnitsanghi’iy 'The Rock That Stands Alone' (Priest Rock) Qizhjeh Vena or Lake Clark Kijik (Qizhjeh) National Historic Landmark and Archeological District While the sites have historical significance, they also speak volumes about Dena’ina values and way of life. For example, the trails here show the importance of social, cultural, and ceremonial participation among Dena’ina people. Many also believe that these trails are like “geological and educational maps” for future generations.  Subsistence Is The Key At Lake Clark National Park And Preserve Dena’ina people believe that the wilderness and animals will be good. It is we, humans, who have to be respectful toward them. To adhere to this, people in Dena’ina culture develop a communal understanding, and learn how to make the most of the limited ecological resources available. To maintain the art of subsistence, the people of Dena’ina culture focus on the following aspects.  The Ethics of Taking Hunters need to donate some part of the meat to the ill, old people, and families. This exercise shows how the tribe prioritizes communal bonding. Further, along with food distribution, the exchange of knowledge and resources is equally important in this culture.  Hunting and Trapping https://www.instagram.com/p/B8M_BvyHeUx/ Hunting animals, especially caribou and moose, is important for survival. Further, the distribution of meat according to the “Ethics of Taking” also builds community cohesion.  Trapping is a year-long activity here. Small animals such as mink, river otter, and Alaska hare are trapped to support living. However, Dena’ina people learn the skills of not hurting others or non-targets while trapping small animals.  Plant Harvesting Dena’ina families use various parts of the plants for different purposes. They collect food from the plants, and some of the plants also have medicinal properties. Further, trees and plants are often sources of tools, fuel, wearable accessories, and ceremonial essentials for them.  Berries grow in abundance here. Northern black currant, crowberries, and blackberries are some common varieties. Crowberry and blackberry leaves are used to cure diarrhea. Further, the stems of crowberry have medicinal properties that cure kidney problems.  Fishing and Fish Camps Summer and fall are the seasons of salmon in the Lake Clark National Park and Reserve. During these seasons, this national park has the largest salmon migration in the world. Further, families reunite and celebrate, and tourists flock in great numbers to the park to see and catch salmon.  Pike, trout, grayling, and whitefish are other varieties of fish found here. In addition, there are Nundaltin Q’estsiq’ and other fish camps where fish is processed and a temporary community is built.  Ethnographic studies further support all these subsistence activities. These studies related to fishing and other outdoor activities and the art of Dena’ina people living around Lake Clark are crucial. These studies help the local people to respond better to the economic, environmental, and sociocultural changes.  Things To Do At Lake Clark National Park And Preserve The vast wilderness and unique geological features make Lake Clark National Park suitable for hiking, camping, boating, fishing, rafting, and many other outdoor pursuits. All these rivers are great for rafting. However, you must adhere to the Alaska Office of Boating Safety guidelines to avoid mishaps.  2. Lake Clark is the main fishing hub here, and you can also explore Crescent Lake and Silver Salmon Creek.  3.
