I was standing in my living room and almost tripped over Lego blocks. I have been doing this all day long, and I need my days by the beach back. This was my story a few years back, and I was wondering if I would see a white sand beach ever again. Then, Boracay happened to me. Initially, my friends were like, “There are fire dancers everywhere, and the nightlife is lit. What are you going to do with these guys?” My daughter was 5 then, and my sonwas all of 2 years. I was more worried about toilets, cleaning stations, and a clean place for meals.  Boracay impressed me. It is a fusion of high-energy vacation and a laid-back vibe. Yes, it was a bit expensive by the standards of the Philippines, which is one of the cheapest places to travel in the world.  However, it was okay considering the ease I enjoyed while traveling with two kids.  Hi, in today’s blog, I will talk about the unique things to do in Boracay with kids. If you want to explore more of the Philippines, you can check out my guide on things to do in Siquijor.  How To Reach Boracay? Yes, this part was a little tricky for me. The travel involved flights, boats, and buses. It was nothing short of a military operation.  However, all the fatigue goes away when the boat hits the jetty, and the turquoise water appears before the eyes.  Also, Boracay is a good mix of modern structures and traditional island life. You will find air-conditioned malls and fancy malls along with the quintessence of the tropics.  What Are The Best Things To Do In Boracay With Kids?  The calm and shallow waters and car-free zones make Boracay a stress-free destination for parents like me.  Also, the Giant Sand Box or the White Beach offers a natural playground for kids. Here is more about the unique things to do in Boracay with kids. 1. The Ultimate Sand Experience At White Beach  The most beautiful beach in Boracay, White Beach, is enchanting, and where we dedicated most of our time. White beach stretches for 4 kilometers, featuring stunning white sand, and is the island's most bustling area. It has three stations (creatively named Station 1, 2, and 3).  The second location is the primary one where we stayed and relaxed.  I anticipated it would be overcrowded, excessively noisy, and not particularly suitable for families. However, that wasn’t true at all.  It was hectic, but not excessively so, and never noisy in my experience. Our children enjoyed it. If you're searching for activities in Boracay Station 2, you won't need to search for too long. Shops, bars, restaurants, tour desks, and massage parlours are found everywhere. My favorite section was the “beach path,” a wide, sandy walkway that follows the beach and is filled with all the essentials you desire.  I haven't encountered anything similar anywhere else. It was pleasant to enjoy the main strip free of cars and directly on the beach, instead of having the beach obstructed by hotels or filled with vehicle fumes as seen on numerous other popular beaches.  One of my favorite activities on Boracay Island was simply strolling along this pathway. There wasn't a lot of trouble either. While strolling slowly with the kids, we frequently received inquiries about boat tours and purchasing hats, but when I was out alone, very few questions were directed at me, and it was not significant.  Unlike some of the major beach destinations in Asia, such as Bali. Boracay maintains a laid-back island atmosphere, yet offers plenty of activities to partake in. 2. Enjoying The Relaxed Vibe At Bulabog Beach This beach is just a kilometre away from White Beach on the island, yet it seems totally different! Once I departed from the main road, all was still except for the crowing of roosters and the laughter of children.  Rather than resorts and buildings, I observed homes constructed from whatever materials were at hand and meandering paths. It is said to be the least appealing beach to stay at in Boracay (unless you are a kite boarder), and I was amazed to discover how incredibly fantastic I thought it was.  It is stunning, and in any other place, it would be greatly appreciated. Moreover, it was slightly breezy, yet extremely calm, with almost no one present and no traffic sounds.  I was infatuated! Had it not been too late to cancel our lodging at the next place, I would have stayed here for two nights instead. White Beach is more beautiful and may have been better for us, as its central location to everything is crucial with young children.  If I returned, I would remain here. I’d simply ensure I was at the end of the beach facing D’Mall, where there are several restaurants, making it easier to stroll the 500m to D’Mall and return to the main area for activities to enjoy in Boracay with family. 3. Water Activities In Boracay Of course, the primary draws in Boracay relate to the beach and the ocean.  Numerous water activities exist.  The primary activities appear to include island hopping excursions, sunset boat trips, glass-bottomed boat experiences, snorkeling, diving, windsurfing, and kiteboarding, essentially anything related to water! Naturally, there is spending time at the beach. You can rent a boat for a very low price. We completed this task in one day for 1000 pesos in an hour.  It was just a bit more than purchasing a tour and allowed us to choose the timing. S didn’t find this very impressive, likely because she had to sit on netting that was somewhat rough.  They also don’t approach the shore directly, so you have to wade into the water. You can clearly employ them to transport you to any place you prefer. Anyone want a private beach? Here, you can reserve numerous activities in Boracay in advance. 4. Shopping At D’Mall D'Mall is the main shopping district of the island and is truly impressive.  When I learned about it, I pictured many small market stall-like spots, but it's more similar to a large outdoor shopping center featuring small boutiques, trendy eateries, and bars.  In the center, there is a small ferris wheel that is an ideal activity for kids in Boracay.  Numerous massage establishments exist (typically 350 pesos for an hour, comparable prices for manicures and pedicures), excellent restaurants offering various cuisines, trendy bars, and everything required for a pleasant and relaxing experience. We dedicated the majority of our time to eating, swimming in the pool, or playing on the beach. Our primary aim was to unwind and commemorate a significant milestone. Get Your Nails Done Or Have A Massage Doing the nails might not be the initial idea that comes to mind when considering the activities in Boracay, but it certainly was a success for us!  My daughter and I were very pleased to have her nails done. This is another affordable activity in Boracay – it’s a fantastic deal. Best Family Resort In Boracay We suggest utilizing HotelsCombined to discover the top lodging options in Boracay. We spent roughly $140 per night for a “bachelor pad,” resembling a spacious studio apartment.  The space included a compact kitchen and dining sections, two queen beds, and ample room.  However, they only clean the rooms upon request. So, it can schedule housekeeping at your convenience.  Typically, the cleaners tend to come when the children are asleep. There’s an additional charge for wifi in your room and for gym access.  The hotel features a pool and a children's pool that we enjoyed greatly! We also liked the bar by the pool. We ordered room service a few times.  It was enjoyable and quite affordable. The disadvantage was that this hotel is on the main road, a block away from the beach at Station.  It only took a few minutes to reach the beach (Boracay is small). So, we are close to amenities like the supermarket. 2. Shangri-La’s Boracay Resort And Spa  This is a fantastic choice if you desire a beautiful resort located by the shoreline, away from the noise and chaos!  This upscale resort provides outstanding facilities and is probably the top lodging choice on Boracay Island.  Last time we checked, two children under 12 can stay for free as well. Click here to see the latest prices.  Food In Boracay Eating was one of my favorite activities in Boracay! There are countless excellent food options – you won't struggle to find something you enjoy.  A variety of distinct cuisines exists. Buffets are great during the evening, and the coastline offers a lot of options.  This was excellent for us since it wasn’t significantly pricier than ordering à la carte, as the kids ate free with the buffets. Interestingly, we both enjoyed our greatest steak ever at what appears to be the finest buffet in Boracay.  It was definitely the most expensive one we encountered, but at under $20 and with free admission for our kids, it was absolutely worth it, and we returned again. We ordered room service and had a picnic by the beach. Everyone was pleased with the meal. Getting Around In Boracay We seldom did anything apart from walking. All we might require is nearby, as we are at Station 2. You can flag down tricycles on the main road for 10 pesos, which we did from time to time. Our stroller was not an issue. Keep These Things In Mind Before Your Visit  Everything appears quite inexpensive to us, but we haven't spent a lot of time in other parts of the Philippines so far.  I believe this is likely the best approach, as we might now discover much cheaper options elsewhere, rather than arriving here last and encountering very high prices.  I am aware that we purchased beverages and snacks at the airport for less than at the grocery store here. 1. Accommodation Is Expensive In Boracay  Accommodation is undoubtedly costly.  I searched for the ideal accommodation in Boracay for us. I even cancelled two locations before finally securing the place we chose.  We are investing more in lodging in Boracay than anywhere else, and it is far from being our top hotel. There are definitely less expensive options, but with our children so young, we are quite particular.  Anticipate higher costs here compared to other locations (even though we are currently in peak season, which lasts more than half the year, and the off-season is not ideal for weather). 2. The Supermarkets Have Everything The supermarkets appear to carry nearly everything, including some global items like Weetbix. Regrettably, they lack soy milk.  My son cannot handle dairy, so it’s fortunate that we packed plenty of formula for this exact scenario. Thankfully, there is significantly more formula present here than in Thailand. The laundry was inexpensive and easy to locate. Our nearest one cleans, dries, and folds for under a dollar per kilo. 3. ATMs Can Be A Problem  My main complaint would be the ATMs. As we discovered at the airport, they don’t always function properly.  Following online research, it's common that the maximum withdrawal is 10,000 pesos (almost $250), and standard fees are 200 pesos (around $5). This is lame! Thus, we are utilizing our credit card whenever feasible. All in all, Boracay is amazing!! And receives our collective approval. We feel unhappy about departing. Kobuk Valley National Park is surreal! Have you ever thought to meet sand dunes in the Arctic Circle? The unique geology of the park makes it possible. That’s not all! The Great Kobuk sand dunes stand here, along with the remains of the North American continental glaciers.  Three of the sand dunes in this national park are active or alive. The Great Kobuk Sand Dunes, Hunt River Dunes, and Little Kobuk Sand Dunes here cover a mesmerizing 20,000 acres of area in the park.   Today, hiking through these dunes is one of the most popular activities in the Kobuk Valley National Park.   While it is visually unusual or unexpected to see sand dunes in an Arctic National Park, you also need to understand that the Arctic region gets very little rainfall every year. So, this is also a desert region.   “Sand dunes in the Arctic landscape are not what you would expect. Since most people associate sand dunes with a hot desert environment, it is a visually unusual thing to see. In fact, what most people don't realize is that the Arctic is also a desert with very low levels of rainfall.”   - Christian, a Kobuk Valley National Park Worker  Having said that, how the sand dunes came to be here, and the experience of exploring them will be a great thing to discuss in this article.   This Is How The Kobuk Valley National Park Became The Land Of Sand Dunes   https://www.instagram.com/p/BWatGdVFuis/ Much of Alaska, including the Kobuk Valley National Park, falls in the Tundra region. Tundra, the coldest of the biomes, gets only around 150 to 250 mm of rainfall and snowfall yearly1. So, the national park has less rainfall than some of the most well-known deserts in the world.   Further, the sand dunes in the Kobuk Valley are as old as the Ice Age. Now, as the mighty glaciers moved forward and made a retreat, the rocks beneath got ground. Now, the blowing wind transported the sand into the empty and ice-free Kobuk Valley. The sand dunes in the park are up to 150 feet high, and they are the biggest, high-altitude, and most importantly, “active sand fields”  in the earth.   In The Land Of The Great Kobuk Sand Dunes  https://www.instagram.com/p/BgmZYDdAA_r/ Are you in the Sahara? No, you are around 35 miles above the Arctic Circle and still find the largest active sand dune field in the world. Today, it is a popular backpacking, hiking, and camping destination in the National Park. You must attend the Northwest Arctic Heritage Center to learn more about the outdoor pursuits in the land of sand dunes.  Let’s quickly look at why the Great Kobuk Sand Dunes is a preferred destination for camping, hiking, and backpacking.  The sand is steady enough for the landing of an aircraft with wheels.  You can put up your tent on any level surface.  Also, you can hike in any direction.  Further, you can board a float plane and reach the Kobuk River. From there, you can take a backpacking tour for around two miles and reach the dunes.  You must visit the Kotzebue Visitor Center if you have plans to take this backpacking journey to and from the Kobuk River.   There is no marked route for hiking.  In summer, the temperature in the sand dunes can reach up to 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Also, fall is the season to see caribou migration here.   However, there’s more to it! Let’s learn about the Great Kobuk Sand Dunes as relics of the Ice Age and how life thrived here.   Great Kobuk Sand Dunes: The Relics Of The Ice Age   https://www.instagram.com/p/BYwfdMYlr-0/ To know about the formation of the Great Kobuk Sand Dunes, we must go back to the Ice Age. Around 28000 years ago, glaciers in the mountains formed. I have already discussed how the glaciers ground the rocks and wind deposited them in the Kobuk Valley.   Further, approximately 14000 years ago, the glaciers made a massive retreat. As a result, there were 200,000 acres of sandy land formation on the river banks. Complex holocene activities and geomorphic preservations keep the sand dune field at the Kobuk Valley National Park active or alive. Along with the Kobuk Valley, small lakes in the park have also accumulated sand over thousands of years.   However, most of the landscape today is occupied by the vegetation of the national park, and the sand dune area consists of only 20,000 acres. The vegetation found here consists of the following varieties.  Wild rye  Grasses  Sedges  Kobuk locoweed  Wildflowers blooming occasionally  These species grow on the shifting sand, and they function as stabilizing agents. You can see shrubs, lichens, mosses, and algae following this vegetation. Finally, there are spruce, birch, and aspen trees covering the landscape.    The slopes of the Kobuk Valley sand dunes are the only place where Kobuk locoweeds grow. These plants belong to the pea family, and they are known for their purple flowers. If you want to see these flowers, you must visit the park in late June and July.   The inland dune field of Kobuk Valley National Park is surrounded by boreal forest.   Humans And Wildlife In The Great Kobuk Sand Dunes  https://www.instagram.com/p/Cv0EhpdLsJ5/ It’s amazing to see the Western Arctic Caribou walking through the Great Kobuk Sand Dunes. Fall and spring are the migration seasons for these animals. The north of Brook Range is the caribou herd’s calving ground, and they migrate to and from this place.   As the caribou herds pass through the sand dunes, their footprints remain in the ground for the longest time. According to National Park Service data, around 250,000 caribou pass through this national park annually.   No wonder that the Kobuk Valley National Park is one of the “last great migrations” remaining in the world. They lived by the Kobuk River and were mainly focused on fishing, hunting, and trapping for survival. It is fascinating to visit the thousand-year-old hunting camps on the edges of the sand dunes.  The golden and shifting Great Kobuk Sand Dunes are located a few miles away from the Kobuk River. Further, the sand dunes soar up to 100 miles in the air.   Kobuk Valley National Park Is Also The Land Of Iñupiaq Subsistence  https://www.instagram.com/p/BWdjyOBl_Lw/ Human life, which started in the Great Kobuk Sand Dunes 8000 years ago, is still thriving with the mantra of subsistence. The Iñupiaq people here use the available natural resources to fulfil their physical needs and safeguard their spiritual and cultural requirements.   For example, they depend on caribou and salmon to feed themselves and their dogs. At the same time, caribou skin hide is extensively used to make parka jackets to combat Arctic winter. They also make mukluks or boots using reindeer skin to walk through the snow.   Further, the local people made baskets using birch and willow. Moreover, in darkness, caribou tallow or seal oil were the only ingredients to light up their stone lamps.   Irrespective of the trade with the coastal communities, the “customary, traditional and non-commercial” use of natural resources is still important in the park.   Iñupiat Ilitqusiat And Respecting The Ecosystem   https://www.instagram.com/p/CzjboNfsc4Y/ Aboriginal people in the Kobuk Valley National Park are committed to passing on their values from generation to generation. The Iñupiat Ilitqusiat value asks them to transfer the knowledge and skill of hunting and everything about life.  In addition, this transfer of knowledge helps to make the most of various seasons and subsistence opportunities. For example, the caribou season comes to this park after the salmon season.   Earlier, Noatak Valley was the destination for these people during the caribou season, and even today, some families move to Noatak Valley. Again, summer camping around the Kobuk River is common for fishing, especially catching salmon and whitefish.   Summer is also the season for harvesting berries and wild greens for the local people.  If you want to learn about the local people and their values, you must be respectful and understand their seasonal activities as a part of their subsistence practices.   Overall, the Kobuk Valley National Park is not just a place to see sand dunes and wildlife. It is a tapestry of human lives depending on nature.   Things To Know Before You Visit The Kobuk Valley National Park   For me, the sand dunes and Iñupiaq subsistence practices are the most fascinating things in the Kobuk Valley National Park. Of course, everyone knows about the capital city of Rome and the beautiful Venice. However, this time, I have curated some other hotspots in the country.  Here Are The Four Best Places To Visit In Italy A lot of people like to take themselves on Italy tours to try and see it all, but with so much to see, it’s not always possible in one trip.  But if you’re planning a trip to Italy, keep reading and discover all the best places that you should visit!  1. Florence Florence is the capital of Italy’s Tuscany region, and it is often said to be the home of some of the greatest art and architecture in the world. It’s often thought to be the birthplace of the Renaissance, so you can imagine just how glorious the art is. Florence proves this by having one of the most famous art galleries ever, housing the Uffizi Gallery which contains pieces from classic artists like da Vinci, Raphael, and even Michelangelo! Florence is also a little bit slower-paced than other historical cities like Rome, allowing you to really soak in your surroundings without all the hustle and bustle. If architecture is something you love to gaze at when visiting other countries, then Florence could be the answer to your dreams. With beautiful structures like the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, you’ll be blown away by just how beautiful this city really is. So, if you want to visit a place with just as much historical significance as Rome but without the tourists, head down to Florence.  2. Verona Fans of Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet” will have of course heard of the city of Verona, as it’s the setting for one of the greatest tragedies of all time. Verona itself may not be at the top of everyone’s list, but it definitely should be. It’s big enough that you can spend a whole day exploring, but it’s also small enough to feel like a walkable city. Verona may be a modern city with lots of stunning restaurants to visit, but it also pays homage to the star-crossed lovers with a museum in a building named “Juliet’s House”. There you’ll find different outfits from movies and plays that have been performed throughout history and all sorts of historical artefacts from the time period of the play. You can even get the perfect photo op on Juliet’s balcony and look longingly out onto the view of Verona and ask the question “Wherefore art thou Romeo?”. A little way down the road, there’s a small tomb that’s said to belong to Juliet as well, so you can pay your respects to the ill-fated lady. Travel-wise, Verona’s train station is right in the centre and has links to all the surrounding cities, allowing you to make it a simple day trip on your itinerary.  3. Praiano If you’re wanting that picturesque Italian experience, then Praiano could be your dream vacation. A small town situated on the cliffs of the Amalfi Coast, you can enjoy gorgeous beach views and breathtaking architecture. There’s the 15th-century church in the middle of the town called the Church of San Gennaro which showcases the best of the baroque architecture. The beach itself is absolutely amazing, with crystal blue waters and surrounded by rocky cliffs, you’ll be able to enjoy the sun and relax in the shade at the same time. If you like an active vacation, then you might want to check out the Sentiero Degli Dei, or the Footpath of the Gods. This trail is 7km long and goes all the way from Praiano and up to Nocelle near Positano city. However, you’ll need to be prepared for the staircase that awaits you at the start, as you’ll need to climb 1,900 steps! Praiano is one of the lesser-known areas of the Amalfi Coast, but that doesn’t mean it’s lesser than any of the other areas. So, make sure you add it to your holiday plans!  4. Padua  Finally, if you want to go somewhere that’s steeped in history and gives you a truly authentic Italian experience but without all the tourists of Venice, then Padua is the place for you. Padua, or Padova in Italian, is a small city that’s just outside of Venice. Padua has a train station right in the centre that has a direct line to Venice, and all sorts of other places like Florence and Rome. This makes it a great place to stay without having to fall into the tourist traps of Venice and enjoy some tranquillity at the same time. Padua has the second oldest university in the whole of Italy, which was founded in 1222! There’s also the Basilica of Saint Anthony who was a Portuguese Catholic Priest that passed away in 1231. The Basilica is visually stunning and has a museum that you can visit inside which is dedicated to the saint as well. There’s also a gorgeous outdoor area that’s brimming is history too.  The Prato Della Valle which is the biggest square in the whole of Italy and has statues of Italy’s most renowned intellectuals. If you’re an avid foodie, then you want to head on over to Piazza Dei Signori. There you’ll find all sorts of authentic restaurants and proper Italian gelato too. It’s also home to the Torre dell’Orologio or in English, the astronomical clock. This clock tower was built in 1430 and the clock face shows the different zodiac signs. It really is a magnificent sight to see, and it looks even better when you’re enjoying a plate of good food in the beautiful afternoon sun.   Italy has some of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, but that doesn’t mean they’re the only place with beauty. In fact, there are plenty of other cities and towns within Italy that could offer you even more than places like Venice! This list just goes to show that you don’t have to only visit the tourist areas to get a real view of Italy. So, why not add some of these places to your list of places to visit? You’ll be blown away at how wonderful they all are, and you’ll find yourself wishing you were back there time and time again. 5. Lake Como Located in the Lombardy region of Italy, Lake Como is one of the deepest lakes in Europe. It looks heavenly with the Bergamo Alps surrounding it, and you can see the reflections of snow-capped peaks in the water.  Further, Lake Como looks different with changing seasons. In summer, you will find the lake surrounded by greens. In winter, of course, it’s all snowy and white as far as you can see.  6. Pompeii, A UNESCO World Heritage Site The Roman architectural site Pompeii is one of the most interesting places to visit in Italy. Such is its appeal that now managing tourism here is a challenge for the management. The first Sunday of October in 2024 had around 36000 visitors to the park. However, from 15th November, the park authority is planning to limit the number of visitors to the park on a daily basis.  Now, only 20000 people can visit Pompeii in a day.
