I was standing in my living room and almost tripped over Lego blocks. I have been doing this all day long, and I need my days by the beach back. This was my story a few years back, and I was wondering if I would see a white sand beach ever again. Then, Boracay happened to me. Initially, my friends were like, “There are fire dancers everywhere, and the nightlife is lit. What are you going to do with these guys?” My daughter was 5 then, and my sonwas all of 2 years. I was more worried about toilets, cleaning stations, and a clean place for meals.  Boracay impressed me. It is a fusion of high-energy vacation and a laid-back vibe. Yes, it was a bit expensive by the standards of the Philippines, which is one of the cheapest places to travel in the world.  However, it was okay considering the ease I enjoyed while traveling with two kids.  Hi, in today’s blog, I will talk about the unique things to do in Boracay with kids. If you want to explore more of the Philippines, you can check out my guide on things to do in Siquijor.  How To Reach Boracay? Yes, this part was a little tricky for me. The travel involved flights, boats, and buses. It was nothing short of a military operation.  However, all the fatigue goes away when the boat hits the jetty, and the turquoise water appears before the eyes.  Also, Boracay is a good mix of modern structures and traditional island life. You will find air-conditioned malls and fancy malls along with the quintessence of the tropics.  What Are The Best Things To Do In Boracay With Kids?  The calm and shallow waters and car-free zones make Boracay a stress-free destination for parents like me.  Also, the Giant Sand Box or the White Beach offers a natural playground for kids. Here is more about the unique things to do in Boracay with kids. 1. The Ultimate Sand Experience At White Beach  The most beautiful beach in Boracay, White Beach, is enchanting, and where we dedicated most of our time. White beach stretches for 4 kilometers, featuring stunning white sand, and is the island's most bustling area. It has three stations (creatively named Station 1, 2, and 3).  The second location is the primary one where we stayed and relaxed.  I anticipated it would be overcrowded, excessively noisy, and not particularly suitable for families. However, that wasn’t true at all.  It was hectic, but not excessively so, and never noisy in my experience. Our children enjoyed it. If you're searching for activities in Boracay Station 2, you won't need to search for too long. Shops, bars, restaurants, tour desks, and massage parlours are found everywhere. My favorite section was the “beach path,” a wide, sandy walkway that follows the beach and is filled with all the essentials you desire.  I haven't encountered anything similar anywhere else. It was pleasant to enjoy the main strip free of cars and directly on the beach, instead of having the beach obstructed by hotels or filled with vehicle fumes as seen on numerous other popular beaches.  One of my favorite activities on Boracay Island was simply strolling along this pathway. There wasn't a lot of trouble either. While strolling slowly with the kids, we frequently received inquiries about boat tours and purchasing hats, but when I was out alone, very few questions were directed at me, and it was not significant.  Unlike some of the major beach destinations in Asia, such as Bali. Boracay maintains a laid-back island atmosphere, yet offers plenty of activities to partake in. 2. Enjoying The Relaxed Vibe At Bulabog Beach This beach is just a kilometre away from White Beach on the island, yet it seems totally different! Once I departed from the main road, all was still except for the crowing of roosters and the laughter of children.  Rather than resorts and buildings, I observed homes constructed from whatever materials were at hand and meandering paths. It is said to be the least appealing beach to stay at in Boracay (unless you are a kite boarder), and I was amazed to discover how incredibly fantastic I thought it was.  It is stunning, and in any other place, it would be greatly appreciated. Moreover, it was slightly breezy, yet extremely calm, with almost no one present and no traffic sounds.  I was infatuated! Had it not been too late to cancel our lodging at the next place, I would have stayed here for two nights instead. White Beach is more beautiful and may have been better for us, as its central location to everything is crucial with young children.  If I returned, I would remain here. I’d simply ensure I was at the end of the beach facing D’Mall, where there are several restaurants, making it easier to stroll the 500m to D’Mall and return to the main area for activities to enjoy in Boracay with family. 3. Water Activities In Boracay Of course, the primary draws in Boracay relate to the beach and the ocean.  Numerous water activities exist.  The primary activities appear to include island hopping excursions, sunset boat trips, glass-bottomed boat experiences, snorkeling, diving, windsurfing, and kiteboarding, essentially anything related to water! Naturally, there is spending time at the beach. You can rent a boat for a very low price. We completed this task in one day for 1000 pesos in an hour.  It was just a bit more than purchasing a tour and allowed us to choose the timing. S didn’t find this very impressive, likely because she had to sit on netting that was somewhat rough.  They also don’t approach the shore directly, so you have to wade into the water. You can clearly employ them to transport you to any place you prefer. Anyone want a private beach? Here, you can reserve numerous activities in Boracay in advance. 4. Shopping At D’Mall D'Mall is the main shopping district of the island and is truly impressive.  When I learned about it, I pictured many small market stall-like spots, but it's more similar to a large outdoor shopping center featuring small boutiques, trendy eateries, and bars.  In the center, there is a small ferris wheel that is an ideal activity for kids in Boracay.  Numerous massage establishments exist (typically 350 pesos for an hour, comparable prices for manicures and pedicures), excellent restaurants offering various cuisines, trendy bars, and everything required for a pleasant and relaxing experience. We dedicated the majority of our time to eating, swimming in the pool, or playing on the beach. Our primary aim was to unwind and commemorate a significant milestone. Get Your Nails Done Or Have A Massage Doing the nails might not be the initial idea that comes to mind when considering the activities in Boracay, but it certainly was a success for us!  My daughter and I were very pleased to have her nails done. This is another affordable activity in Boracay – it’s a fantastic deal. Best Family Resort In Boracay We suggest utilizing HotelsCombined to discover the top lodging options in Boracay. So, we are close to amenities like the supermarket. 2. Shangri-La’s Boracay Resort And Spa  This is a fantastic choice if you desire a beautiful resort located by the shoreline, away from the noise and chaos!  This upscale resort provides outstanding facilities and is probably the top lodging choice on Boracay Island.  Last time we checked, two children under 12 can stay for free as well. Monaco Suites De Boracay This resort offers breathtaking views and delightful lodgings, featuring one-bedroom suites that deliver plenty of room for families. Click here to see the latest prices.  Food In Boracay Eating was one of my favorite activities in Boracay! There are countless excellent food options – you won't struggle to find something you enjoy.  A variety of distinct cuisines exists. Buffets are great during the evening, and the coastline offers a lot of options.  This was excellent for us since it wasn’t significantly pricier than ordering à la carte, as the kids ate free with the buffets. Interestingly, we both enjoyed our greatest steak ever at what appears to be the finest buffet in Boracay.  It was definitely the most expensive one we encountered, but at under $20 and with free admission for our kids, it was absolutely worth it, and we returned again. We ordered room service and had a picnic by the beach. Everyone was pleased with the meal. Getting Around In Boracay We seldom did anything apart from walking. All we might require is nearby, as we are at Station 2. You can flag down tricycles on the main road for 10 pesos, which we did from time to time. Our stroller was not an issue. Keep These Things In Mind Before Your Visit  Everything appears quite inexpensive to us, but we haven't spent a lot of time in other parts of the Philippines so far.  I believe this is likely the best approach, as we might now discover much cheaper options elsewhere, rather than arriving here last and encountering very high prices.  I am aware that we purchased beverages and snacks at the airport for less than at the grocery store here. 1. Accommodation Is Expensive In Boracay  Accommodation is undoubtedly costly.  I searched for the ideal accommodation in Boracay for us. I even cancelled two locations before finally securing the place we chose.  We are investing more in lodging in Boracay than anywhere else, and it is far from being our top hotel. There are definitely less expensive options, but with our children so young, we are quite particular.  Anticipate higher costs here compared to other locations (even though we are currently in peak season, which lasts more than half the year, and the off-season is not ideal for weather). 2. The Supermarkets Have Everything The supermarkets appear to carry nearly everything, including some global items like Weetbix. Regrettably, they lack soy milk.  My son cannot handle dairy, so it’s fortunate that we packed plenty of formula for this exact scenario. Thankfully, there is significantly more formula present here than in Thailand. The laundry was inexpensive and easy to locate. Our nearest one cleans, dries, and folds for under a dollar per kilo. 3. ATMs Can Be A Problem  My main complaint would be the ATMs. As we discovered at the airport, they don’t always function properly.  Following online research, it's common that the maximum withdrawal is 10,000 pesos (almost $250), and standard fees are 200 pesos (around $5). This is lame! Thus, we are utilizing our credit card whenever feasible. All in all, Boracay is amazing!! And receives our collective approval. We feel unhappy about departing. A series of misunderstandings? A place that fails to connect? I don’t know why I never felt that connection during the couple of times I visited Bangkok. I think as we “grow up” or evolve as human beings, we look for something more meaningful beyond the neon and crowds. It’s all about the “life stages.” Even as a backpacker, the streets of Khao San Road and the cheap lager smells never attracted me. I found most of the experience surface-level, and the tourist traps were many.  Overall, as a woman in her mid-thirties, I felt that I had joined the wrong party. However, I started to feel at ease as I reached the southern beaches, especially the limestone cliffs of Krabi or the turquoise waters of the islands. However, the last trip to Bangkok changed many things. My experience was curated, and based on that, I am here to share the things to do in Bangkok for adults. What Are The Things To Do In Bangkok For Adults? Beyond the street-buckets of gin and the smog, this time, I found Bangkok to be a community-oriented city. I could feel its cultural richness and sophistication this time. If you’ve also previously written off Bangkok as too chaotic or "young," here is a guide to the elevated, authentic, and age-appropriate experiences that turned me into a lifelong fan.  1. However, this time, R-Haan was my destination.  This two-Michelin-starred restaurant serves high art without adulterating the soul of Thai cooking. Also, trying the food here was like getting familiar with the seasons and regions of the kingdom.  From amuse-bouches to the curries in the main courses, the wholesome experience is achieved by balancing the five pillars of Thai taste: sour, sweet, salty, bitter, and spicy. 2. Sightseeing With Siam Hop The humidity of Bangkok is always a challenge to keep the mood even. However, Slam Hop, with its four distinct routes, changed my experience this time.  It covers Heritage, CBD, Shopping, and Entertainment through its routes. So, you can tailor your experience.  Furthermore, these buses are air-conditioned, and the integrated app with real-time GPS tracking offers traffic updates.  We took the bus and visited the Grand Palace and the sleek skyscrapers of Sukhumvit. And guess what? The exhaustion was 0.  3. The Bang Lamphu Backstreets We probably had the best experience in the backstreets of the Bang Lamphu district. Here, the local people, especially the young ones, have taken great initiative to maintain the heritage.  We met a lady who has been hand-sewing the costumes for the traditional mask dance, or Khon. She started when she was 15, and now she is 50.  Furthermore, it was a Friday, and the community leaders at the local mosque spoke about the area's history and how it has always maintained religious harmony.  These are the moments when you feel the real connection and even forget to click photos. 4. However, we did not want the outdoor heat to be a challenge. So, we visited SookSiam inside the ICONSIAM mall.  Here, you will find street food from all 77 provinces of Thailand.  They have also recreated canal boats and traditional shopfronts, and you will find artisans from across the country. We tasted northern khao soi, southern spicy curries, and delicate Isan sausages all in one loop.  5. They used essential oils and focused pressure techniques that took away the exhaustion of a long flight.  It is a wellness experience that I can travel for.  6. Industrial Chic At The Never-Ending Summer View this post on Instagram A post shared by The Never Ending Summer (@theneverendingsummer) The Never-Ending Summer was previously a warehouse on the Chao Phraya River banks. This converted space has now become a place to enjoy Thai food with a beautiful view.  The natural lighting adds to the ambience, and we loved having lunch while watching the river traffic go by.  We had an amazing salad there, made with battered flowers, and the curries were well-balanced. After finishing our lunch, we took a stroll to the Jam Factory complex, which had an art gallery and a bookstore.  7. The Golden Hour On A Sunset River Cruise A sunset cruise on the Chao Phraya River is magical, cliché it may sound. The sky turns into a burnt orange canvas at first, and then there are the touches of violet.  With this change, the city's silhouette changes completely. The ancient spires of Wat Arun glow against the modern glass of the riverside hotels.  8. Spirit Jim Thompson: A Jungle Oasis You cannot miss lunch at Spirit Jim Thompson even if you are having just one meal in Bangkok. It felt like a tropical sanctuary in the heart of a lush garden.  This is such a welcome break from the streets of the city.  In true honor of the legacy of Jim Thompson, the place maintains elegance and its impeccable style.  You can choose anything from the menu. You will experience bold flavors, arty presentation, and overall, the quintessential Thai hospitality.  9. Cocktails At ThreeSixty Rooftop Bar ThreeSixty atop the Millennium Hilton was the place we chose for a cocktail with a view experience.  We took the outdoor seats. The evening was warm, and we saw the river winding its way through the glowing city.  A perfect moment for romance, reflection, and more!  10. It is the place where you will cherish the tradition.  We sat under the shade of a huge 80-year-old mango tree, and we ordered iced coffee. Furthermore, the colorful Thai desserts here were served in crystal dishes.  How should I describe the experience? Graceful? Yes, if we can say that about the food experience.  11. The Labyrinths Of Chinatown You really have to be an early bird if you want to explore Yaowarat or the Chinatown of Bangkok.  Furthermore, as we walked through the small alleys, we could smell the incense, and we came across the ancient shopfronts and lanterns.  Many of the historic buildings of the city have become boutique teahouses or mini museums. It is a sensory explosion of history and tradition that offers a fascinating counterpoint to the city’s modern malls. 12. Legacy Flavors At Nuttaporn Ice Cream Nuttaporn Ice Cream in the Banglamphu district is a family-run place that serves ice cream made using the same coconut milk-based recipes for over 60 years.  Furthermore, it is a “no-frills” place, and we loved the bowls of mango ice cream with the toppings of peanuts and lotus seeds.  This time, I chose experiences that valued quality, community, and comfort. Is Koh Tao safe? Now, this is the question everyone is asking about Koh Tao these days. The reason? This island of stunning beauty has suddenly become the “Death Island.” Since 2014, the news of foreign tourists dying or going missing on the island has been common. But this is not the season that makes Koh Tao famous. Let me share with you a fascinating story about how I felt when I visited Koh Tao for the first time. We really had our toes in the sand, and you have to be here to understand how this island is the crown jewel of the sustainable tourism and green economy initiatives of the Tourism Authority of Thailand. “What adds to Koh Tao’s success is the whole-of-society mindset shift that we have seen over the past few years. We’ve seen an evolution from just trying to raise profits and attract more tourists to creating a more sustainable and environmentally conscious tourism experience that truly makes Koh Tao unique. I am thrilled to see the results of UNDP BIOFIN’s work that has contributed to this change and will continue to support local communities in working towards Thailand’s ambitious climate priorities.” - Renaud Meyer, Resident Representative for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Thailand. BIOFIN stands for Biodiversity Finance Initiative. It has played an active role in convincing the diving and fishing communities here about the importance of protecting the biodiversity and marine life. Nevertheless, this Turtle Island is gorgeous, and it is also pristine. So, along with celebrated locations such as Raja Ampat in Indonesia, Koh Tao is also emerging as a place to encounter stunning marine life and beautiful reefs. The First Impression At Koh Tao I don’t know whether it is the “Fortune favors the brave” trick or something else. But I visited Koh Tao in July with my girl gang and found a clear sky to our greatest surprise. However, the experience at Mae Haad Pier was not that pleasant. The crowd was endless when we were trying to get off the ferry. The men were bare-skinned, and they were hauling their backpacks. Furthermore, a few Thai men kept asking, “Where are you going?” It was very confusing whether to answer them first or jump off the ferry first! I am an introvert, and suddenly there was too much energy around me. So, it took me a while to get accustomed to the crowd. But after that, it was absolutely okay. Koh Tao Is Growing: And We Saw How The Infrastructure Is Changing Do you know that the first adventure travelers arrived at Koh Tao in 1977? They took the coconut and fish transport boats to reach this island for diving. Since then, infrastructure development on Koh Tao has been significant. The concrete streets are clean. Also, many shops, restaurants, and hotels looked new. Also, the shops' advertising was quite cool, and along with the pharmacies and cafes serving espresso, there were motorbike rental shops. Now, motorbikes are the best way if you want to explore this small town at your own pace. The rental price starts at around 150-200 THB per day. Another great thing was the availability of ATMs. It was such a relief! Moreover, the crowd buzz was just right as it was the rainy season. It was enough to soak in the local culture. However, we always got our spots at the cafes and restaurants. In addition, we were using the TrueMove connection, and the coverage was quite decent throughout the island. Getting Around Koh Tao The island is walkable. Furthermore, moving around was pretty easy with the motorbikes, taxis, and ferris being frequent. Also, Koh Tao is close to the Koh Samui Airport and the Chumphon Airport on the Thai mainland. So, since it does not have its own airport, the initial transit can be challenging.  What Are The Things To Do On Koh Tao?  Scuba diving, hiking, snorkeling, and exploring the beaches are the best things to do on Koh Tao. Here are more details. 1. Scuba Diving You can get your PADI certification, and there are as many as 84 dive schools on the island. “We produce around 100000 PADI certfied divers every year. This is an affordable place and the price you get here is matchless.”  • Kim, Big Blue Diving,  Other diving companies we got to know about there were Roctopus Dive, Goodtime Adventure, and Ban’s Diving Resort. However, diving here has seasonal specialties. For example, January to May is the best time for diving. Having said that, February is the month if you want to enjoy a swim with the whale sharks. 2. Hiking Koh Tao has many beautiful viewpoints, and you can easily hike along any of them. These viewpoints are:  Two View  John Suwan Viewpoint  Chalok Viewpoint  Mango Bay Viewpoint  Koh Nang Yuan Viewpoint  Love @ Khao Tao Viewpoint  We started our day early so we could enjoy the fresh air and complete the walk before it got crowded.  3. Exploring The Koh Tao Beaches We were impressed to witness the initiatives to protect the beaches of the island. Stunning is an understatement for them. Also, for lazy travelers like us, these beaches are the best things about Koh Tao. Now, you will get many beaches with palm trees, white sands, and aqua blue water. However, I have seldom seen beaches being so sincere about the recycling programs and cleanups. We relaxed in our hammocks and allowed the sea breeze to caress our cheeks and hair. Furthermore, among the beaches we visited, Ao Chalok Ban Kao and Sai Daeng were my silent favorites. Those beaches were quiet. Also, as we visited Koh Tao in the monsoon, the more touristy ones, such as Tanote Beach, Sairee Beach, and Ao Luek, were not that crowded. These are usually full during the peak months. Pro Tip The sand is beautiful on Koh Tao beaches. But it is not smooth. So, you will need your flip flops. Chaloke Harbor was an exception. But most beaches have the remains of the bleached coral. So, make sure that you don’t cut your feet.  Moreover, these beaches offer amazing sunrise and sunset views. 4. Nightlife On Koh Tao We were on Koh Tao till around 9 PM, and by then the bars had come to life, and we could hear the rock and pop music they were playing. The quiet vibe of the island is gone after sundown. The groups of divers and young tourists here get busy with tropical cocktails and local beers. Also, the fire dancers were putting up their shows. One more thing I learned from a local pub owner. You can be a part of the Pub Crawl here three times a week. Friday, Wednesday, and Monday are the days. Along with all these activities, you can also try ocean kayaking and rock climbing. Furthermore, snorkeling at Hin Wong Reef is a lot of fun.  How Is Koh Tao Making A Successful Ecotourism Movement  It was fascinating to see how all the people and local businesses of Koh Tao came together to reduce the impact on the environment. With around 500000 visitors here every year, the small island gets a lot of waste. Most wastage comes from the packaging and construction work. Food waste and bathroom waste amounts are also quite high. Now, non-profit organizations such as Trash Hero Koh Tao are working to make the island clean. They encourage the locals and the visitors to get involved in the reef and beach clean-up drives. When you clean the waste with your own hands and see what the plastic bags, bottles, and straws do to the sea and the marine animals, you will never throw them carelessly. Furthermore, the hotels here play a proactive role. We chose Ban’s Diving Resort for our stay, and they have a separate section to make detergents and soaps from organic waste. Also, they compost the fruit scraps and vegetable waste and use the gray water, along with sorting the recyclables. Moreover, the food they serve at their restaurants has vegetables from their organic gardens. Is Koh Tao Safe To Visit?  Back to where I started this article. The recent cases of tourist deaths have been a bad patch for the reputation of Koh Tao. Though it has been years now, it felt weird seeing such a scarce presence of police here. I think I last saw some officers at Mae Haad Pier. Also, it was even more alarming here to know that most officers don’t understand or speak English. However, the local people here and business owners here are so committed to maintaining the sanctity of the place that we did not have any problem during our stay. We were a bunch of women, and we never even felt unsafe. Tips To Follow If You Want To Visit Koh Tao Safely  Are you renting a motorbike? You must click all the scratches on the vehicle, and your rental agency will need a photocopy of your passport.  Furthermore, keep the international driver's permit for motorcycle driving handy and wear your helmet. Moreover, don’t forget to get travel insurance. You cannot stroll at night alone. Be with a group, and even if you are going to the bay alone in the daytime, keep your hotel staff member informed. Be mindful of how much you are drinking. The buckets can seem fun, but they are traps, and sometimes they are drugged. When you are on the speedboats, you have to wear life jackets. It does not matter if you can swim or not. Koh Tao Is Beautiful But A Bit Overhyped  Koh Tao deserves all the accolades for its sustainable tourism initiatives. However, I think it is a bit overhyped if you are not diving. For a diver, it is an excellent place to get the PADI certification and explore the coral reefs. The beaches are good, but not something that you won’t find anywhere in Bangkok or anywhere else. So, it’s a 5/10 kind of experience for me. What’s your take on this? It’s a lot of fun when we let our kids decide the destination and details about the best family holiday destinations. Now, at 13 and 10, my daughter and son have already travelled more than their peers. You can blame it on their parents, us, who are the ultimate bohemians. Nevertheless, this time, we told them to list the best family holiday destinations, irrespective of the experience they want. They could choose a backpacking trip, beach holidays, adventures, or even anything purely relaxing. Last time, we played a similar game when they picked the best family road trip destinations for us!  So, let’s check out what they have chosen as the best holiday destinations for families.  What Are The Best Family Vacations Spots? (With Kids And Seniors) I was impressed with how my kids kept the list of the best family vacation spots eclectic. They may have done a lot of research, as the same list has Portugal and Italy, both places standing on the opposite spectrum as travel destinations. Here are the places they have picked. 1. Portugal From the beautiful beaches in Portugal to the intoxicating land of Madeira, Portugal, and enjoying a vintage tram ride in Porto, this country is a winning destination for family vacations. And my daughter was particular that she wanted to stay at the Martinhal Sagres in the Algarve region. She wanted to see the fishing port and the beaches. In fact, the Lisbon to Algarve road trip and staying at Martinhal Sagres would be a great combination. For me, the coastal route works better as the route will pass through beautiful beaches, cliffs, and small fishing villages. There is even an inland route, passing through plains, mountains, and different towns. Moreover, though a little far away (more than 3 hours from the Algarve), I would love to add the Dino Park Lourinhã to the itinerary. It is the largest open-air museum in the country, and the models of dinosaurs and other creatures here are scientifically proven. 2. Jordan  With Petra as the epicenter, Jordan offers diverse family-friendly attractions, including the red-sand deserts and the Dead Sea. Jordan also has beautiful beaches. Furthermore, this Arabian country in the Middle East offers unique cultural experiences. Also, the food here is tantalizing. However, this time, if we visit Jordan, we would love to stay in glamping pods. These offer wonderful experiences to stay in nature and have the best stargazing experience. I know it would not be as great as stargazing at the Great Barrier Island that I had on my solo trip. Still, it will be a great start for the kids. The kids would also love Wadi Rum for the camel rides and Bedouin camps. 3. Amsterdam  “The clog bikes are so cool, mumma!” Yes, exploring a city like Amsterdam on a clog bike is so much fun. This is the best way to cover the windmills. Furthermore, the canal tours with audio guides are entertaining and educational for the curious kids. Also, if you want a more classical experience, the museums and tulip fields will never disappoint you. The NEMO Science Museum, the Van Gogh Museum, and Madame Tussauds Amsterdam are some interesting places to visit for kids. Also, it has the Anne Frank House. Moreover, Amsterdam is one of the most pet-friendly destinations in the world. So, we can even take Bruno with us. 4. London  London is a classic! It offers endless opportunities as one of the best family holiday locations for kids and seniors. If you just consider the museums in the city, it will be a busy trip for the kids. Also, London has Buckingham Palace, one of the most iconic European landmarks. Furthermore, the Thames River Cruise, the London Eye experience, and visiting the Tower of London will be great experiences for your kids in London. Moreover, we are all Potterheads. So, when in London, visit Platform 9 ¾ and various filming locations of the Harry Potter movies. 5. Tuscany, Italy  Tuscany is a unique choice when it comes to good family holiday destinations. My daughter is growing up really fast, I must say. I did not expect her to be so mature with her choices. My daughter also had her suggestions regarding the accommodation. She wanted to stay at the Paradu Eco Resort, Tuscany, which is close to the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Also, she wants us to explore Tuscany, its beautiful countryside, and the beaches on cycles. For us (the adults), hitting the vineyards on the way will be a lot of fun. I am surely going to grab some wines home and make the evenings more happening. It is a year-round destination with white sand beaches and long stretches of palm trees. Furthermore, the waves here are just perfect for surfing and swimming. I think Santa Theresa will be the ideal place for the kind of vacation experience we want as a family. It is still pristine and does not have a large commercial presence or establishments. Also, Costa Rica has independent and boutique hotels and services, offering you tailored experiences. On the other hand, the healthy cafes here are serving food that nourishes, and they are even conscious about eco-sustainability. Moreover, you will find many zipline areas and beautiful waterfalls near the beaches. Thus, enjoy a vacation filled with adventures, fun, and relaxation. I know covering all 30 national parks will not be possible. I am at least going to take them to the Arenal Volcano so that they can explore the trails and spot the famous monkeys and sloth bears here. Manuel Antonio will be another great choice for visiting the Damas Island Mangrove Estuary, enjoying the beach vibe, and walking through the national park. 7. Peru  Machu Picchu is reason enough to choose Peru as one of the best family vacation spots in the world. Furthermore, we have plans to visit Cusco, on the way to visiting Machu Picchu. I have plans of learning how to make chocolates and do some textile shopping there. Also, Cusco is in the heartland of the Incas. As the capital of the Incas and a sacred valley functioning as the gateway to Machu Picchu, it is also designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Furthermore, the Peruvian cities stand out with their unique charm. For example, Lima is a gastronomic hotspot, Iquitos is the Amazon Gateway, and Arequipa has a distinct colonial charm. Moreover, Nazca is the place where you will experience the mystery of the desert. 8. Dubai  I think most kids these days have Dubai on their priority list. My son is not an exception. It is the country where culture and glamor, or history and futuristic developments, meet. Dubai is also the number one destination on our list of best places to travel with kids. The Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo, with 33000 marine animals, is the main attraction for kids interested in marine life. Furthermore, they can experience adventure and thrill in a safe environment at the Jungle Bay Waterpark, Aquaventure World, IMG Worlds of Adventure, and KidZania. Moreover, Dubai has the heritage neighborhood of Al Fahidi (Bastakiya), and a boat ride across the Dubai Creek to the Spice and Gold Souks will be an ideal cultural experience for kids in Dubai.  9. Florida  Are you planning an early spring break? Florida is surely one of the best family vacation spots in the world. I mean, every kid, even we, wants to visit Disney World. However, Orlando just does not have Walt Disney World. It is the “Theme Park Capital of the World.” It has Universal Studios and SeaWorld. Furthermore, Florida is beyond the theme parks and curated entertainment of Orlando. It has the Everglades National Park. Your kids will love spotting dolphins, turtles, and alligators here. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Also, Florida has the Kennedy Space Center at Merritt Island, the Florida Museum of Natural History at Gainesville, and the Norton Museum of Art at West Palm Beach. Moreover, with Little Havana in Miami, the history of Cuban immigration after the 1959 revolution, and the San Carlos Institute in Key West, Florida, brings a slice of Cuba to the USA.  10. Kenya  Now, Kenya is the country that my son has picked as one of the best family vacation spots in the world. His focus, however, is the Masai Mara. He, of course, wants to meet the Masai tribe and have an immersive wildlife experience. “We will stay in camps or the safari lodges. These are eco-friendly accommodations with all the modern amenities. However, you can consider them as an extension of the wild nature of the Masai Mara. You never know when an elephant or a lion will be dancing at your doorstep. 11. Bali  I feel happy when I see that my daughter has picked certain traits for me. She loves places that have stories and history, and where the shift of energy is palpable. With the Canggu rice terraces, beaches, and different historical landmarks, Bali caters to every type of traveler. I know it’s a cliche, but it is the truth! However, my son was more eager to visit the Waterbom Bali, the topmost waterpark in Southeast Asia. Children will also love the Bali Bird Park, Ubud Monkey Forest, Bali Zoo, and the Bali Treetop Adventure Park. Also, my daughter especially wants to visit the Ulun Danu Beratan Water Temple at Munduk Bali, the Tirta Gangga Water Palace in Amed Bali, and the Uluwatu Beach.  12. Portland  Portland in Oregon is ideal as a fun family travel destination. You can explore the large city on a cycle. Furthermore, the high-energy city has breweries and museums. Also, the spirit of the city is quite spontaneous, aligning with its slogan on the Portland walls and the bumper stickers. Furthermore, the Oregon Zoo and the Portland Japanese Garden are two major attractions in the city.

A good summer trip! For the longest time, these road trips have been the ultimate bonding time for our family. Us, our parents, and the stars, the 15-year-old moody chatterbox, and the 10-year-old, giving me young Sheldon vibes.  Now, my daughter has always been a sport, and she has behaved her best during road trips. It’s my son who always brings the challenges. Also, he is now 10 and has a lot of opinions to share.  And with him growing up, the perennial sibling fights are more frequent. So, this time, we let our kids prepare their lists and make small chits. The trick was to shuffle the chits and keep them in a bowl. Finally, I will pick the chit, and it will be the place we go for this summer's road trip.  Now, I was amazed to see how detailed and diverse their lists were! Here are the best family road trip destinations they chose for this summer.  What Are The Best Family Road Trip Destinations In The USA? Be it the on-mountain summer experience, the dream adventure in the national parks, or the iconic and mighty Niagara Falls! The best places to travel with kids on a summer trip are endless in the USA.  These are the places our kids want to visit.  1. Vail Honestly, I would not have thought of Vail as one of the best family vacation spots if my daughter had not said it.  In the Rocky Mountains, Vail is beautiful in the fall and winter. However, it is more amazing during the summer.  Epic Discovery Learning about local wildlife, adventure sports, and a scenic gondola ride are the main attractions at Epic Discovery.  There are many fun activities for the kids. They can do ziplining, roll down the hill on a tube, or try their hands at the golf club. Also, for all of us, the forest flyer mountain coaster ride can be the ultimate adventure.  Also, if you think that seniors can’t enjoy it, they will love the gondola rides, exploring the Betty Ford Alpine Gardens, and hiking through the short nature trails. River kayaking, white water rafting, and hot-air balloon rides are some other exciting activities here.  Moreover, you can try horseback riding or cattle drives. But as always, I am never up for these things ethically!  2. Orlando This was expected from my son. And Walt Disney is The PLACE when you are traveling in Orlando with kids. And my son has been cribbing since Christmas that we missed the Disney visit this time.  It was I who was unsure about it because I could not think of Walt Disney World without Toy Story Mania, and the reconstruction work was not complete before the holiday season.  However, the restoration of the Toy Story entrance archway is complete now. And this summer, Disney is going to have the debut of the “Soarin' Across America", and the experience around 30th June is going to be more patriotic at Walt Disney as the nation celebrates its 250th year.  Moreover, there is now a new snack kiosk near Toy Story Land. This place sells amazing pepperoni pizza spring rolls.  3. Luxury Glamping At The Resort At Paws Up Now, resorts are the most convenient choices when it comes to the best family holiday destinations. The Resort at Paws Up in Montana was once again my daughter’s suggestion.  She heard of it from her best friend, who went there last summer with her family.  I already knew about the resort, as it has multiple accolades to its name. It is a two-Michelin-Key resort, and in 2025, it won the title of the 8th best resort in the world in the “Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards.” Glamping here gives a wonderful opportunity to sleep beneath the star-filled sky. Furthermore, this cattle ranch, spreading over 37000 acres, has 100 miles.  Along with cattle and horseback rides, you can enjoy water rafting here in the massive Blackfoot River. Furthermore, it has spa and wellness amenities for your rejuvenation. 4. Glacier And Yellowstone National Parks In Montana Montana also has gems such as the Glacier National Park and the Yellowstone National Park. You can do wilderness camping at Glacier National Park with a wilderness permit. It has easy to moderate hiking trails such as the Avalanche Lake, Hidden Meadow, and Highline Trail.  Furthermore, the national park has the North Fork Flathead River and the Middle Fork Flathead River.  Moreover, this 1,583 square miles of wilderness is the Crown of the Continent. It has fossils, a growing wildlife, and a unique geology.  The Yellowstone National Park, on the other hand, is home to bison, grizzly bears, and wolves. Grand Teton National Park In Wyoming  The Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming has the National Elk Refuge. It is an area of 25000 acres, offering refuge to 7000 elk.  Furthermore, the Oxbow Bend here is frequented by the mother bear grizzly No. 399 with her cubs. The Kelly Loop, Antelope Flats, and the Moose Wilson Road are the other spots in the national park to spot wildlife such as bison, pronghorns, and antelopes. Moreover, this national park has the endangered white bark pine trees, the bald eagles, which are a species of concern, and the grizzly bear, which is a species at risk.  By the way, I was surprised to see that both my kids had these national parks on their list of best holiday destinations for families.  6. California Coast We have been to the California Coast once during the spring, and I was glad to see that my son wanted to repeat it.  The last time, we started the trip in San Diego, and the kids had a lot of fun at Legoland, the San Diego Zoo, and the beaches.  Then, we continued our drive north and had an extensive beach experience at Pismo Beach, Santa Barbara, Malibu, Newport Beach, and Solvang.  And of course, as we reached the Central Coast, we had to stay at the Madonna Inn. The charm of 1958 is still intact here with the iconic pink dining room and 110 uniquely themed rooms.  A We Continued North  We chose to stay at a resort near Pebble Beach, and from there, it was about 17 miles to Big Sur to enjoy its wonderful views.  Also, we booked a few rounds and enjoyed our time at the Pebble Beach golf courses.  Final Stop San Francisco Last time, our California road trip ended at Santa Cruz. We enjoyed the play at the boardwalk, which still has the old-world charm.  Furthermore, our kids enjoyed their time in San Francisco. Of course, the sundae at Ghirardelli was the biggest highlight. They also loved exploring Fisherman’s Wharf and flying kites by the Golden Gate Bridge.  7. Las Vegas Las Vegas, despite being the “Sin City,” is actually a fun place for kids. My daughter hasspecific demands about the Las Vegas summer trip.  She wants to stay at New York-New York as she is dying to take the Big Apple coaster ride there. Also, she has the Shark Reef Aquarium and the Circus Circus adventure dome on her wishlist.  8. Grand Canyon National Park The Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona is one of the most beautiful road trip destinations. I told my son, “It’s going to be so hot and it’s the peak season, you will feel annoyed.” He was persistent as he wanted to join the “Junior Ranger Program.” “I also want to see the Yavapai Geology Museum, and I want to ride the train (Grand Canyon Railway),” He added.  Now, with his research being so immaculate, I had to consider his choice.  9. Zion National Park I know summer is the busiest time at Zion National Park, and the heat is intense. But it is also the time when we get access to almost all the trails in the park in Utah.  The Lower Emeraland Pool Hike will be easy this summer. It is an easy trail and usually takes 1 hour to complete.  I also chose this trail because it continues through Juniper and pinyon woods. So, even with the high heat, the kids would have a comfortable time walking.   As the trail ends, the beautiful Emerald Pool and ephemeral falls await us.  10. Niagara Falls Niagara Falls was the first place we visited on a family trip after my daughter was born. She was all of two then, but I don’t know if she remembers anything.  I think she has picked things about the trip from our family album. The real thrill begins with the boat ride to the mighty falls. She wants to enjoy the Maid of the Mist boat ride once again this summer.  And if we visit the Niagra Falls again this season, I have plans of descending at the tunnel behind the Horseshoe Falls. 11. Milwaukee And as they say, “The nearer the church, the farther from God," I know that I have missed visiting Milwaukee even after staying so close to it.  Milwaukee, suggested by my son, is a bright city in the summertime. And of course, the young lad is growing up to be quite a bike connoisseur. So, no wonder that the Harley-Davidson Museum was his calling.  The Harley-Davidson Homecoming Festival from July 9-12 is the ultimate time to visit Milwaukee if you are also a bike enthusiast like him.  Furthermore, the city also has the Milwaukee County Zoo and the Art and Public Museums.  12. Washington DC It’s great to see that my daughter wants to visit Washington, D.C. for the summer road trip. I am even happier because I once shared my experience of being there on 4th July.  The teens these days! They don’t show emotions, but they feel a lot! She specifically mentioned that she wanted this road trip to see the National 4th of July Parade and the fireworks.  I never knew that she harbored such patriotic feelings. 13. NYC We have been to NYC once. My son was 6 years old then. He still can’t forget the experience of seeing the Statue of Liberty. So, it was an expectation suggestion from him.  He also wanted to see the views of New York City from the One World Observatory and enjoy the elevator ride. Last time, he even loved the Central Park Zoo and a boat ride on the lake. 14. Chicago Contrary to the questions I get to read online, Chicago is a safe place, and it is one of the best holiday destinations with kids.  I don’t know why my son has picked the name, but I think he has done so for the Lincoln Park Zoo. He loves wildlife, and he wanted to meet the penguins at the “Malott Family Penguin Encounter.” A few days back, he was giving me a scoop on this.  Furthermore, Chicago has the Shedd Aquarium, the Field Museum, and the Science and Industry Museum. All are brilliant places for curious kids.  Moreover, my son is a huge baseball fan. So, a match day at Wrigley Field or the Guaranteed Rate Field would be a lifetime experience. Now, Are You Ready With The Best Holiday Destinations With Kids? Our list of family road trip destinations has been quite diverse. It’s time you plan your adventure! If you ask me, it’s a difficult task to choose among these destinations. I liked all the suggestions from my daughter and son. And I can’t take a side as I don’t want to deal with a sulking face for the next two days.  Nevertheless, from the list here, my favorite would be Chicago. Though kids see it in a different way, I always find it so culturally enriching to be in Chicago.  Also, being from India, Chicago always reminds me of how once a monk from India came and offered a lecture on the inclusiveness of Sanatana Dharma! Very pertinent in the days of wars and violent geopolitical stunts today.

You know how difficult it is to pick a favorite here.   Be it the award-winning dining places or the humble local eateries, it’s rare to find a bad meal in the city.   Also, there is so much variety in the South African delicacies Cape Town has to offer. Now, Braai, or the South African style BBQ, absolutely rules the food scene. Even TasteAtlas rates it a 4.3 out of 5.   You can even try Hoenderpastei, a savory pastry, Biltong, a cured beef snack, and the spicy Chakalaka stew.   So, it takes around a month, and to take a break from the rest of the world to understand the basics of the local food. And we did that!   A good problem to have here is the choice of so many eating places. But the same can also be overwhelming when you are on a short trip.   So, to make your life easier, I have discussed the best restaurants Cape Town has.  Let’s eat!  What Are The Best Restaurants Cape Town Has? Here Are My Favorites   Sustainable choices have always been important when it comes to food in Cape Town. Also, the history of the Cape Town CBD is incomplete without knowing the local food.   In 2022, the Economic Development Partnership had a walking tour of the food history, in association with SA Urban Food and Farming Trust and Food Dialogues 2022.   On this occasion, Andrew Boraine, CEO of the Economic Development Partnership, quoted Tony Karon, a celebrated writer and editor. He said,   “While it’s tempting to read South African cuisine simply as some kind of melting pot of the influences brought by those who migrated to the country, many of the country’s most notable and tasty dishes reflect histories of violent conquest, enslavement, and oppression.   But even as post-apartheid South Africa remains locked in an unfinished struggle to digest and resolve the consequences of its troubled history … its cuisine reflects the common humanity of its citizenry: their search for succour and comfort, identity, communion, and hope for a better day.”  So, knowing Cape Town and the food here is incomplete without discussing the local facilities in detail. Precisely, that’s why I will start my list with the local bests.   Also, I have divided my favorites into five sections.   The Lekker And Local  Where To Have The Best International Cuisines In Cape Town  Fish And Seafood Restaurants  Fine Dining Restaurants In Cape Town  Out Of Town Restaurants That Are Worth The Trip   1. The Lekker And Local   I have been doing a lot of food tours. From the spicy Tamilian and coastal cuisine of Jaffna to the soulful Luang Prabang food tour, these have been my ways of connecting with the local culture.   Local produce, South African flavors, and the most beloved chefs in the city – don’t miss out on these ‘lekker’ Cape Town restaurants.  • Seebamboes - Surf And Turf  View this post on Instagram A post shared by Seebamboes (@seebamboes) Seebamboes, despite being new to the Cape Town food scene, has made a name for itself. Neil Swart and Anouchka Horn, the team behind GALJOEN and Belly of the Beast, have started it.   Surf and turf or a one-on-one between the sea and the land! This is how the owners have planned Seebamboes. The name itself is an extension of the theme.   You may call Surf and Turf old-fashioned, but I loved the surprise factor here. The flatbed with the octopus was amazing. It was perfectly charred and tender enough to cut with a fork. It was served on a flatbread that soaked up all the smoky juices.   Furthermore, the seaweed margarita marks the ideal start to your culinary journey here.   Also, keeping at its sustainable core, the restaurant serves abalobi sashimi. Abalobi in South Africa helps the small-scale fisheries in the country. So, it cannot get more sustainable or local.   Do you think that’s the end of it? Have some watermelon ice-lolly to cleanse your palette and try venison tataki with mussels. The dish comes with steamed dune cabbage. The steaming is done in a hollow seebamboos stem.   Moreover, the Surf and Turf theme is also present in the dessert served by the restaurant. The house is beautiful, and so is the conservatory and courtyard.   Burnt aubergine yogurt and duckpastilla were the small plates we tried here. Though these did not replicate the authentic Moroccan food magic, they had the Cape Town touch I was looking for.   I think they did complete justice with their “creative and curious” concept. Also, the whimsical presentation may be a part of it.   The Urfa Biber Kingklip was a standout, and I also loved the Puglia burrata with flatbread. The outside table is a place where you can be if you want to be here for some time, unfazed by the growing crowd.   Two or three locals came up to me and asked for money! That’s okay, and this does not take away the charm of the place.   The rice paper summer rolls were the highlights for me here. These had grapefruit, smoked trout, and crab filling. But I hope I will make it the next time!  • Blondie Bar  I loved the effortlessness of the Blondie Bar. It was not trying to fit in, and the whole concept is quite new to Cape Town.   You can find the signature Brandy & Coke here, and the grapefruit ouzi slushies were the perfect summer refreshment we were looking for.   We had a whole roasted cauliflower there with tahini, and the trout we had was simple and amazing. Where To Have The Best International Cuisines In Cape Town?  The food scene in Cape Town is truly international. If your pants are too tightly fitted, you may need to open them halfway. So, wear something loose-fitted and allow yourself to have the ultimate foodgasm.   Even if you are struggling with your pants, the dim lighting will be your savior. Nobody cares either, as they will anyway look for another bite.   The pasta served here has the homemade comfort, and the Negronis are the perfect companions. Have the pastas for breakfast, lunch, and anytime you want!  Also, if you are here in the evening, try prawn crudo with tomato consommé, beef tartare, sardines, and antipasti. Also, if you love Negronis, try the pepper Negronis brewed with sour cherries.   Furthermore, the dishes here may be Cypriot and Greek, but the ingredients used are native. Chef Nic Charalambous has inherited some of the recipes from his Cypriot grandparents.   The aubergine dish, the dumplings, and the tuna carpaccio are the stars here. However, my absolute favorite was the pork belly skewer.   Also, if you are a vegetarian, don’t forget to try the complex combination of whipped feta, hibiscus vinegar, dill oil, and green tomatoes.   Moreover, if you want to keep the mains simple, try some Namibian crab with ravioli. Wear your pants a little looser, and you are going to have a lot of food.  • Carne  It was love at first bite for the tortellini I had at Carne. Italian pasta, quality cuts, and a dream spread for a carnivore! Also, I had a local intel that this branch is less crowded than the Keerom Street one.   Also, if you are here in the evening and it is wind-free, sit on the patio and enjoy your time with bistecca and fries.   Moreover, it’s a sin not to try the chocolate fondant here.  • Curry Club  Curry Club is one of the best restaurants Cape Town has for the food it serves and the journey it has had.   2020! The whole world was fighting against COVID-19, and then the Curry Club began its journey. Between Constantia and Hout Bay, it is at the Silvermist Estate.   The setting is sleek, and the menu is diverse, including various vegetarian options.   And everything else is just as the Executive Chef, James Gaag, says, “Food is our Theatre/We hope you enjoy the show.”  From Bacon Chawanmushi and smoked boar to coal-fired lamb and Namibian red crab! The menu is eclectic, and the Chef's special vegetarian section has Smoked porcini broth, beet root “La Colombe,” tandoori cauliflower, and whatnot!  5. Out-Of-Town Restaurants That Are Worth The Trip  Good food is not just in Cape Town. Also, it’s important to give the neon energy of the city to give a miss to immerse oneself into the culinary soul and beautiful landscapes.   Furthermore, when local sourcing and sustainability are the philosophies you believe in, the food landscape of Cape Town CBD is made possible by out-of-town restaurants that embrace a Farm-to-Fork culture.   For example, restaurants such as Babel at Babylonstoren have their own pantries, and the restaurant is located in the middle of the pantry.   More, you can really have a long and lazy lunch here. Start at 12 PM, gossip your heart out, and it’s 4 PM in a blink. Nobody is going to tell you to get up.   Here are a few of my favorites.  • The Beach House Restaurant  You will find this newbie on the block on the way from Cape Town to Kraalbai in the West Coast National Park.   The team behind the fine-dining excellence at Dusk runs the Beach House Restaurant. It overlooks the Yzerfontein Beach, and among the guests, you will see a mix of guests in their wetsuits, lines, and loafers.   Also, you will find all the beach classics here. You will love the fish and chips, fish ceviche, fresh oysters, and amazing seafood platters.   To savor your food better, you can have it with a margarita or a chilled rosé.   The service here is great. However, if you are visiting on weekends or need the patio for you and your friends, you must reserve early.  • Babel At Babylonstoren  View this post on Instagram A post shared by Babylonstoren (@babylonstoren) Babel at Babylonstoren is THE best in the winelands. Everything on the menu is from the Babylonstoren gardens, and the restaurant is in the middle of the garden.   Vegetable dishes are the stars of the menu here. The meat and fish delicacies are equally good. My experience was exactly what Sarah Khan of Bon Appétit had to say about the restaurant.   "Eat, drink, and garden your heart out at Babylonstoren, one of the great food lover's vacations in the world right now."  Obviously, you must try their herbal and non-alcoholic mix and wine. You can even take a tour of the cellar.   Overall, Babel at Babylonstoren is not a restaurant; it is a wholesome experience. However, pre-booking is essential.  • The Foodbarn Café & Tapas  The Foodbarn is a quiet presence in the list of the best restaurants Cape Town. It is in a quaint barn in Noordhoek. Also, it never hogs the publicity.  Furthermore, the food here is amazing. I have never (and I mean it!) been to any restaurant that turns simple oysters into something magical on a plate.   Equally good was the mushroom ravioli, and the baked cheesecake was the chef’s kiss.
