Let me share with you eight of the coolest beaches in Australia, more specifically in Melbourne! You will not only enjoy them but also make memories for a lifetime. 8 Beaches In Melbourne, Australia, Where You Can Cool Off! Several Melbourne beaches are renowned for their beautiful views and plenty of activities. I will list eight beaches where you can cool off and relax on your holiday. You will love the article if you love surfing, swimming, fishing, and other activities. There are several things to do in Australia, and I will help you decide on them! It would be best if you explored everything from sandy beaches to the delicious food joints across the foreshore of these beaches. In Australia, there are several opportunities that you can explore when planning your holiday. South Melbourne Beach Port Melbourne Beach, also known as South Melbourne Beach, is charming and offers a beautiful view. The tiny Prince's Pier is a perfect spot for sunset photos! You will have complete privacy if you visit this beach with your partner. People can go out on casual strolls along the stretch of sand! If you are a pet parent, this is a perfect place to take your pet out on a walk; even the locals do that. You can see people playing beach tennis or taking a cruise ship to visit other places! Elwood Beach If you love a relaxed vibe when traveling to the beach, you can go to Elwood Beach! It is just around the corner from St. Kilda Beach, so if you want to avoid all the hustle and bustle, you can escape to this beautiful, classic sandy beach! The beach isn't far from the city, and it's beautiful. The CBD skyline looks mesmerizing, especially from the beach. Whether you are a vegetarian, vegan, or non-vegetarian, you will find all kinds of options, from cheesy empanadas to seafood like oysters and kingfish!  You cannot miss the porterhouse steak; the service and deliciousness will transport you to heaven! Brighton Beach If you plan to visit Brighton Beach, it is an ideal spot for surfers, sunbathers, and swimmers. You can live with your family or partner in residential areas with sun-drenched streets and sandy beaches. Gunnamatta At Gunnamatta, you can experience the full force of the Southern Ocean; the ocean is harsh. However, with experienced surfers, this place can be a slice of heaven! You can also visit the Mornington Peninsula National Park near the beach. The beach is clearly dramatic, but thrill-seekers will love the gigantic waves! Some food joints let you take regular breaks based on your preferences. Dromana Beach With its clear turquoise waters, Dromana Beach is a perfect fit for places in Australia that will take your breath away. The best time to visit Australia is mostly during the summer months, and the swimming conditions at the beach are perfect here! You can go to different barbecue spots across the foreshore to hang out with your friends or partner. There is also a small fishing pier where you can do a lot of fun activities! Several hiking trails surround this beach, which makes your visit more exciting and adventurous. Apparently, there is a stamina test that you can take, especially with the nearby Arthurs Seat State Park! If you are traveling from the train station, the closest beach to this is Gem Pier. This station offers some of the coolest unobscured views of the skyline. It is spectacular at night, with lights twinkling across Williamstown! If you plan to visit during New Year's Eve, you can check out the beautiful fireworks across the town! Traveling from Sydney to this beach will take about 17 km (about 10.56 mi) by car. Mordialloc Beach The beach is not just water and sand, but also a beautiful southeast suburb with plenty of resources and charm. Furthermore, with a thriving nightlife scene, this place is perfect if you can stay here.   Henceforth, visiting museums and other important places becomes easier. Let's not forget that you can hop to clubs and restaurants regularly if you stay close!   Santurce – One of the most populated areas of San Juan, this location is quite safe for you to book your accommodation here. Starting from museums, and art and music, you will get everything here. Admittedly, you will also enjoy the different types of cuisines available in this locality.   Things to Do in San Juan   If you want to enjoy visiting San Juan safely, let me share with you some of the coolest places that are worth visiting. These activities will make sure you have the time of your life!   El Yunque National Forest   This place is beautiful, especially if you are a natural person, this is it for you. Go visit nature and check out those beautiful waterfalls. It is better if you carry your drinks and order something minimalistic from the restaurant and accordingly enjoy the beach vibe.   Cobblestone Streets   Beautiful museums, colonial churches, and architecture across the cobblestone streets will take your breath away. I am sure you will start admiring the place when you take a stroll across these streets.   The streets are paved with blue cobblestone pavers, the beauty of it will just make you stare. You can get amazing pictures along with learning about the colonial past of the Island from these cobblestone streets. La Fortaleza   A UNESCO World Heritage Site, La Fortaleza is a historic fortress. You can take a guided tour of this place. You can see the current residence of the Governor-General of Puerto Rico, there is also an arsenal here.   Furthermore, you cannot roam around the fortress at your own will, instead try to book the 30-minute guided walking tours across the place from Monday to Friday from 8:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The tour is inclusive of the interiors of the fortress when the government is not in session and the luscious gardens.   Santa Maria Magdalena de Pazzis Cemetery   The cemetery is historically profound especially because it is filled with graves of significant Puerto Rican figures. Salvador Brau, Jose Ferrer, Rafael Hernandez, Jose de Diego, and others are all buried here.   You will find them one of the most beautiful places as the cemetery faces the Atlantic Ocean. It is all about the symbolization of the journey of the souls in their afterlife!   Food to Have in San Juan   Are you a foodie like me? Whenever I travel somewhere, what I find very necessary is to try the food that the locals enjoy. This shows how the way a place develops a relationship with the local food, the people, and the culture there.   La Placita de Santurce – With several bars and food stalls, this place is as lively as a festival, the market square attracts you like no other. One of the hotspots of Puerto Rico, both travelers and locals are attracted to this place.   La Factoria – This bar is popular and known for its creative cocktails such as espresso martini, lavender mule and lager beer, hijos de Borinquen, and others! A low-lit salsa-filled ambiance is quite homely with their delicious fish tacos, stuffed mushrooms, fried goat cheese balls, and others.    Chicharron - One of the most delicious tapas menus, this restaurant is one of the best places to taste the Puerto Rican malanga soup. Let's not forget to try the Mofongo from here.   Deaverdura - A small restaurant, giving a farm eatery vibe offers you some of the best pernil in San Juan. You also need to try the pollo al ajillo with rice, which is to die for. It is located right in the heart of the city; the lively Latin American restaurant gives you the perfect taste of local cuisine.   Molini’s - A hidden gem of a restaurant, the menu keeps changing every day offering you some of the best local cuisines. If you are looking for an authentic Puerto Rican dish, try their Arroz con gandules. You are in for a treat!   Safety Tips for Solo Women Traveler   The safety tips that I am sharing with you are from my experience as a solo female traveler! My experiences have helped me create a checklist for myself especially when I am traveling alone, both domestically and internationally.   Select your accommodation area in a well-lit neighborhood. This will ensure your safety even when you are returning late to your hotel or leaving early to visit a tourist place. Another thing to keep in mind, if you are walking alone, try to be on proper-lit roads, especially at night.   It is important to be aware of your surroundings at all times, even when in a crowd. I recently traveled to a crowded city in India, and I realized, that pickpockets and petty theft are most rampant in crowds. Even at night, you must be aware of your surroundings.   When using transportation, use reputable and trusted individual drivers and organizations for ride-sharing services, organized tours, and taxis.   Try not to flaunt too much in terms of clothing or accessories. For example, it is better if you do not wear expensive watches, expensive bags, jewelry, and large amounts of cash.   You must keep track of the weather in San Juan and check the forecast before you make the plans. It is better to be prepared especially because you are a visitor to the city hence, you might not get help whenever you need it. With mountains, faults, monoliths, deserts, and unique geological formations, Joshua Tree National Park has emerged as an important ecological hub of California. Further, as the name goes, the park has the most amazing Joshua Tree, a Yucca palm species that became famous with the Joshua Tree album by U2.  Spanning 800,000 acres and situated at 5000 feet above sea level, this national park is like a natural tapestry. Further, 85% of this national park is still pristine wilderness. So, there is no wonder that a place like this harbors the best secrets and fun facts that are yet to be explored.  Here, I will share some amazing info about the park’s history, fossils, cryptobiotic crusts, and more. Joshua Tree National Park is about to complete 30 years of its designation as a national park on 31st October 2024. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt designated it as a national monument in 1936. Things No One Talks About Joshua Tree National Park  The basics are boring! There is no fun in visiting a place that does not have stories to tell. However, this national park, designated in 1994, has mountains and ecological units that echo the tales of history, changes, and humanity.  Let’s get into the stories, but before that, let me give you a brief account about when and how to visit the park. September to November is the best time to explore the park due to pleasant weather conditions.  Further, the Annual Night Sky Festival occurs in the park in October. It’s a delightful experience for people of all age groups. Thomas Crochetiere writes many fascinating stories about Joshua Tree National Park in his “The History of Joshua Tree National Park: A historical, informational, and educational timeline of Joshua Tree National Park.” If you are interested in the park’s history, you can grab a Kindle edition of the book.  1. Fascinating Historical Tales About Joshua Tree National Park  Human history in Joshua Tree National Park is as old as 15000 years. Two archaeologists, William Campbell and Elizabeth Campbell, further discovered the existence of Pinto culture in this park. Pinto Culture In The Park  People belonging to this Pinto Culture used to stay in cool grassland environments here, and they were primarily hunters. Pinto culture in the national park was discovered by archaeologists thanks to the triangular-shaped spears, scraping and cutting tools, and seed-processing tools.  All the implements that established a Pinto connection to the place indicate that the Pinto people led a bohemian lifestyle. Along with hunting, they also practiced seasonal harvesting.  Native Americans Occupying Joshua Tree National Park  Europeans came to Joshua Tree National Park in the late 18th century. However, the park had three groups of Native Americans. They followed the Pinto culture, thriving locally in the park. These three tribes were: Cahuilla Serrano Chemehuevi The Chemehuevi tribe was the latest to occupy the national park, and they came to this park from the Great Basin of Nevada in 1500.  All these tribes adopted the tools of the Pinto people, and they improved and diversified them.  Cattlemen First Occupied The Joshua Tree National Park  Joshua Tree National Park has every element of a Western movie. The western side of the park had higher elevations during the 1870s. These areas also received a higher rainfall and had different species of native grasses.  As a result, many cattle owners used to flock to these parts of the park for cattle grazing.  William “Bill” McHaney was the earliest cattleman in this park. He was a legendary figure, and he took his Texas Longhorns to these higher valleys. He will be known for living in the national park and exploring the area for around 60 years. Further, his brother, Jim, built a gang to steal cattle from Mexico and Arizona.  Discovery Of Gold In Joshua Tree National Park  The 19th century was the biggest highlight in the Joshua Tree National Park. Miners flocked to this park in great numbers for the discovery of gold. Twentynine Palms was the first area to have mining expeditions in the park in the late 1860s.  The presence of water in the Oasis of Mara was the main reason behind extensive mining expeditions at Twentynine Palms. Gold was collected from dirt using dry washing. The process was fun, and it involved throwing dirt mixed with dust into the air. The dirt was caught as it came down in the air, and this process continued until the mix only had gold dust.  Desert Queen Mine was a more successful gold mining venture in the park. It was Frank L. James, an employee of the Lost Horse Mine, who discovered the vein of gold in the Northern Queen Valley. Unfortunately, he had to lose his life at the hands of  Charles Martin. Martin was a part of the notorious cattle-rustler gang of Jim McHaney. Jim McHaney was the brother of William “Bill” McHaney, a legendary figure in the park.  Joshua Tree National Park Had An Important Role To Play During World War I  The dry, desert climate of Joshua Tree National Park was beneficial for the war veterans suffering from the effects of the mustard gas. This gas was so lethal that it had to be banned after World War I. Did You Know?The Geneva Gas Protocol Treaty, signed in 1925 by most countries, banned the use of biological and chemical weapons in war.  Germans introduced mustard gas in 1917, and any contact with the gas used to cause skin burns, blisters, and respiratory problems. Patients hit by this gas needed to get hospitalized for the treatment of chemical burns and respiratory issues.  Moreover, the survivors of the mustard gas attacks had greater risks of developing cancer.  2. Fossils Of Joshua Tree National Park  https://www.instagram.com/p/ClHXsRDS2Xq/?img_index=1 The fossils in the Joshua Tree National Park tell us about the geological evolutions, extreme natural events, and biodiversity. So, what were the animals that roamed here when the earth was a cooler and greener space? Let’s have a look at the list below.  Columbian mammoths Dire wolves Camels Horses Llamas Giant ground sloths Saber-toothed cats  Bison American Pronghorn Did Dinosaurs Live At Joshua Tree National Park? Scientists believe that Joshua Tree National Park had dinosaurs. Some of the oldest rocks in the park are from the dinosaur era. However, being metamorphic and igneous, these rocks could not preserve the skeleton of the dinosaurs. So, there is no “black and white” evidence regarding the existence of dinosaurs in the park yet.  The oldest fossil found in the park is the tooth of a pocket gopher. It was found in a 7.8 million years old sediment. The park has many other microfossils that are even older.  Moreover, the midden of the pack rats has been a gold mine for finding plant and insect species. At least 12 species of plants were found in the midden, and the oldest was around 30,000 years old. In addition, the darkling beetle fossils in the midden come from various ages. The oldest dates back to  34,000 years ago, and the latest is as old as 1000 years old.  Above all, the human artifacts and bones collected in this midden speak of human history and the evolution of their lifestyle.  3. Cryptobiotic Crusts Of Joshua Tree National Park  What are cryptobiotic crusts? They are hidden biotic organisms present on the surface of the park soil. Blue-green algae or cyanobacteria are the leading cryptobiotic crusts at Joshua Tree National Park. The other forms of cryptobiotic crusts present in the park soil are: Mosses Lichens Microfungi Bacteria Green algae Now, these cryptobiotic crusts are important to bind the sand and soil particles of the park together. In other words, they prevent soil erosion caused by wind and water.    4. Spiritual Stories And Symbolism Around Joshua Tree National Park “The Joshua Tree” album by Irish band U2 brought the spiritual connection or symbolism around the Joshua trees in the park under the spotlight. The album explores the gap between the promised land and the real land of America. The desert also stood for the desolation of the soul, while the Joshua trees, surviving in extreme weather conditions, became the symbol of hope and prayer. However, you must go back around 180 years to trace how Joshua trees have always been associated with symbolism and Biblical stories. In the 1850s, the Mormon pioneers crossed the Mojave Desert and saw these trees.  The upraised branches of the trees reminded them of Joshua, who stretched his arms to the sky for prayer and led the “Israelites into the Promised Land.” So, this is how these Yucca Palm trees got their new name.  5. Joshua Tree National Park Is The Best For Stargazing  As International Dark Night Sky, Joshua Tree National Park is one of the best places in California for stargazing. The following parking lot areas are best for Joshua Tree National Park stargazing. Hidden Valley Ryan Mountain Quail Springs Cap Rock Along with these places, you can also choose Pinto Basin for an amazing stargazing experience.  How To Reach Joshua Tree National Park?
