“The cats protect the city from mice, and in return, the people feed them.” The local shopkeeper told me as I was walking toward a dozen cats sitting on the stone steps at a locality near the Old Town. On a backpacking trip to Kotor, Montenegro, I found cats on the ancient walls, in cafes, and everywhere! Stretching their bodies in the Sun and with their purrs, they indeed looked like the guardians of the city. And it is them who made me feel at home. However, it’s not just the cats that make Kotor in Montenegro an ideal budget travel destination for backpackers. It now features in the second spot as one of the most underrated budget backpacker destinations by Bamba Travel. Its medieval streets, historic architecture, hiking routes, and seafood offer the most affordable travel options for backpackers. The chirpings of birds and that smell, a mix of the scent of an oven after a cake is freshly baked, and the dew-drenched leaves created an ambiance that was inexplicable. Nevertheless, a local shepherd offered some cheese and rakija (homemade brandy), and we talked about life. Then, the Sun illuminated the entire Kotor Bay. Now, if not this, what is magic for a backpacker or traveler? Now, thanks to the unique natural location of Kotor, Montenegro, you can encounter many such magical experiences. Located in the Bay of Kotor, Kotor is a coastal town of Montenegro, and it is a part of the Kotor Municipality. It sits between the Adriatic Sea and the Dinaric Alps and has a mountainous terrain. How To Reach Kotor, Montenegro? How Tourists From Different Parts Of the World Can Visit Kotor?  The easiest way to reach Kotor is to travel to the Tivat Airport. Located at a distance of around 7 km, it is the closest to Kotor. You have to travel the remaining route by local transport. Podgorica Airport (40 km) and Dubrovnik Airport (44km, Croatia) are the two other airports near Montenegro. You will get flights from major European cities to these airports, and buses also run from neighboring countries such as Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina to Podgorica and Kotor. However, Tucumán has recently also emerged as an astrotourism hotspot.  The Ampimpa Astronomical Observatory in the Calchaquí Valleys of Tucumán is at the epicenter of this happening astrotourism scenario.  Now, this is an added feather to the crown of Tucumán, the smallest province of Argentina. It offers a vertical journey from the jungle to the desert in 50 kms.  Also, the nickname of Tucumán is not just a fancy phrase. It means a biological reality and refers to the historical event of Argentina’s independence from Spain in 1816.  Furthermore, El Jardín de la República, or the Garden of the Republic moniker, goes well with its subtropical climate and the lush landscape.   You guessed it right, as today, this Tucumán nature guide will take you to the Yungas Rainforest and the highlands of the Andes. Watch The Fog (Neblina) The Fin del Mundo" statue area on route 307 is often the zero-visibility zone. There is dense fog in this area even at around 4 PM. However, there are ticks. So, you must check your ankles after a hike or use a blanket.  4. Hire A Guide For "La Ciudadacita" Are you planning a 4-day trek to La Ciudacita or the Inca Ruins? You must have a guide because the high altitude path, at an elevation of over 4000 meters, is unmarked. You need technical assistance for the navigation. Moreover, you must contact the Asociación Argentina de Guías de Montaña to hire a guide.  5. The "El Indio" Stop You will find the best dried meat or Charqui at the vendor stalls at the El Indio monument on Route 307. These stalls also have the best local honey.  Stop by these stalls and have the dried meat and honey for a great start to your hike.  6. The Waterfalls In Tucuman Are Seasonal  No Instagram reel will tell you that the waterfalls in Tucuman are seasonal. March to May, or the end of the rainy season, is ideal for visiting these waterfalls.  7. Beware Of The "Mala Mala" Local folklore speaks of the "Mala Mala" spirit in the mountains. Whether you believe it or not, respecting silence in nature is a huge part of the local culture. 8. No Cell Signal Once you pass the "El Indio" monument or enter Aconquija Park, your cell signal dies. Download offline maps (Maps.me or Google Maps) before leaving the city. 9. Condors Fly At Noon If you want to spot Andean Condors, look up between 11 AM and 1 PM when the thermal currents are strongest. They rarely fly early in the morning. After speaking with a few locals, we learned that because people are so intent on seeing Zion, they frequently overlook it. We would have given ourselves a whole day to explore the remainder of the park if we had known better. Because Snow Canyon offers an abundance of hiking opportunities.
