São Tomé and Príncipe is about to take a significant step in developing a sustainable tourism sector. The sustainable tourism sector will be further well-balanced in terms of the economic indicators.  The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and the United Nations Resident Coordinator’s Office will support this move. In this context, the country will hold a United Voices for Sustainable Tourism dialogue on 30th October 2025, and there will be a technical validation workshop on 29th October.  It will be the second phase of the Tourism Satellite Account (TSA) Development Project that will give São Tomé and Príncipe a strategic tool to measure the economic contribution of tourism to the nation’s wealth. Thus, it will establish why leveraging tourism is crucial for the sustainable development and economic diversification of the country.  Furthermore, the latest workshop before this dialogue, held on 15th to 18th September 2025, has highlighted the 11% contribution of the country’s tourism sector to the GDP and 10% of the Gross Value Added (GVA).  With the country taking a step forward in sustainable tourism, the São Tomé eco-lodges are also going to play a critical role. With the use of renewable energy, community involvement, local sourcing, and sustainable architecture, these lodges are also helping us to travel green.  In this blog, I will introduce the popular and lesser-known São Tomé eco-lodges, what practices they follow, the hidden gems of São Tomé and Príncipe, and more.  What Makes An Eco-Lodge In São Tomé Truly Sustainable? I remember my first quiet Sunday in Paris—it caught me off guard. The whole city just… slowed down. No horns, no rush, just this calm hum underneath everything. You could actually hear the church bells bouncing off the empty streets.  It will feel a bit strange at first. You will feel like you woke up before the world did. Some of the shops will be shut, some light spilling over the rooftops, and the air will smell like freshly baked bread.  By mid-morning, the city will wake up again, but this time it will be slow. The shops will open, and you will notice people moving around, communicating with others. Things will seem slow and cozy, and you will see how these people enjoy life.  Same with Rue Mouffetard—music from nowhere, old ladies arguing over fruit, a kid tugging at his mom’s sleeve. Even Batignolles, tucked away from the usual crowd, hums with its own little rhythm.  There are various things to do on Sunday in Paris, as the major attractions might be closed. Some of the major markets and shops will not open. So, it is important that you plan something nice and simple and just enjoy life in Paris for a day. Market Mornings And Fresh Finds If you can get yourself out early (I barely managed), the markets are wild in the best way. Marché Bastille is my favorite. It’s messy, loud, alive.  You will hear people arguing about prices, vendors shouting, and someone playing accordion like he is auditioning for a movie. Piles of tomatoes, a bunch of scarves, the smell of bread, everything will make you feel alive. 2. Stillness In The Streets Then everything quiets down again. Around late morning, it’s like the city decides to take a nap. Montmartre, Le Marais—they turn soft and slow. Shutters half-closed, sunlight sliding across cobblestones, the occasional bike bell echoing through an alley.  You pass an artist sketching, someone leaning on a balcony, a couple holding hands, as if time had stopped for them. It’s cinematic, honestly. On a Sunday, walking across the Seine feels like walking through someone’s dream. 3. Long Lunches, Parisian-Style Now, if there’s one thing Parisians take seriously, it’s Sunday lunch. You can’t rush it. Even if you tried, they’d probably ignore you until you relaxed.  Tables fill with families, old friends, strangers turned companions. You order steak-frites or roast chicken, maybe onion soup if you’re lucky. Bread everywhere, wine always flowing.  No one looks at their watch. Meals last hours—literally. You talk, eat, sip, pause, talk again. And dessert? You don’t skip it. Tarte Tatin, if you can find it. Or cheese. Always cheese. 4. Enjoy High Tea Enjoying a high tea in Paris is one of the best things to do on a Sunday in Paris. Most of the big hotels also offer afternoon tea even on public holidays. The Ritz Paris offers afternoon tea, which creates a sense of occasion.  Afternoon tea at Le Meurice is something you should experience at least once in your lifetime. However, you will have to book this in advance as this is quite popular. Moreover, you can try afternoon tea at Le Bristol.  This is kind of a hidden gem, and not as popular as its competitors. It is less crowded and you will be able to visit it on public holidays as well. There is no reason to be crowded, but you have to book it in advance.  5. Parks And Picnics In Full Bloom If the weather is sunny and pleasant, you need to get out. There is no point staying indoors. Visit one of the parks like Parc Monceau, Jardin du Luxembourg, and Buttes-Chaumont.  Kids enjoy the park; they chase pigeons. You will notice musicians singing by the fountains, and older couples sitting peacefully, enjoying the surroundings. All you will need is a bottle of wine, a baguette, and some cheese. Just sit around and watch life unfold around you. 6. Go Shopping Among so many things to do on Sunday in Paris, there is no way to miss out on shopping. However, make sure there are no big holidays, or the stores will be closed. The designer shops and the big brands generally keep their store open on Sundays. However, do not estimate the flea shops. The St. Ouen flea market is less crowded, and you will be able to shop easily there, and getting there is also not very difficult. It is a small site, and you will be able to browse through stuff easily, and the variety you get here is unmatched. Where Everyday Life Becomes The Highlight By evening, you realize how little you’ve done. There are so many things to do on Sunday in Paris. And somehow, that’s the magic.  Paris doesn’t need your checklist—it just wants you to slow down long enough to notice it. The soft chatter, the smell of bread, the light hitting the Seine—it all feels like a secret only you found. Walking home that night, I remember thinking: nothing spectacular happened. No grand event, no story to brag about. Yet it felt like one of those rare days you actually lived instead of rushed through. That’s a Parisian Sunday for you. Quiet. Ordinary. And absolutely unforgettable.

It is due to the alcohol content in cologne that there is a high probability of risking catching fire in the aircraft. Considering the plane is an enclosed space, there are high probabilities of risks. It is, therefore, important for all passengers and crew members to be careful, aware, and vigilant. You must be careful as a traveler to use containers protected by caps or other means to prevent any accidental leakage. It applies to nasal sprays, sanitizers, massaging liquor, aerosol and fluid medication, and nail polish. Rules By Transportation Security Administration (TSA) For Cologne The rule of 100 ml bottles in carry-on bags applies to most countries, such as the USA, Europe, China, Canada, India, The United Kingdom, New Zealand, and Australia. If you want to carry a lot of perfume or cologne, especially as a gift, you must split it into different containers. The original packaging of the cologne must also be carried so that the officers do not raise any issues during the security screening. At times, carrying a lot of liquid, gel, lotion, or aerosol can raise suspicion; hence, limiting the amount of cologne you have is important. Can you bring perfume on a plane? Is there another question you must have? Perfume and cologne both come under the same category. All types of colognes are allowed on the plane. However, there are limits to how they must be carried. The TSA officers should be confident regarding the quantity of perfume you carry. Can You Bring Cologne On A Plane? According to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), the rule for carrying any liquid, including cologne, in a carry-on bag or handbag is that the liquid must be 3.4 ounces. 3.4 ounces means 100 ml, which applies to all liquids, aerosols, lotions, and gels. The rule is called 3-1-1, where the 3.4 ounces of liquid should be carried in 1 transparent quart-sized bag, which applies only to one passenger. There are no specific requirements regarding carrying the cologne in the checked baggage. However, cologne in liquid, aerosol, gel, or lotion form can be risky; therefore, it must be within the limit of 17 ounces or 500 ml in one container if it is in liquid form. If the form is in gel or lotion, the quantity must not exceed 18 ounces or 0.5 kg. According to the TSA, you cannot carry more than 2 kg of gel or lotion or 2 L of liquid of the aggregate quantity of cologne in the checked baggage. Can The Cologne Be Used During The Flight? The rules for flying internationally and domestically are the same except if you travel domestically to New Zealand or Australia. New CT scanners in New Zealand and Australia make it easier for passengers to follow one rule of carrying 500 ml containers. The smaller container of 100 ml is only sometimes implemented in these countries overall, helping the passengers to follow the TSA rules. It also does not matter in which type of container you carry the perfume, be it glass, plastic, or metal. It is important to declare if you are returning to your home country while buying a lot of cologne or perfume from a foreign country for security and screening purposes. During the flight, perfume or cologne can be used. It is, however, necessary to remember not to spray on other passengers. So, It is better to apply the perfume in the bathroom. It is better to wait a bit in the bathroom so that the airplane can cycle out. You can also wipe your skin with a paper towel and water so it is not overpowering. It also saves you from the risk of catching fire in a crisis! Packaging Tips For Cologne In Plane Avoid any cologne-related issues, especially such as spillage leading to severe risks. As a traveler, you should be cautious and follow the rules and regulations established by the TSA. When packing a cologne or perfume bottle, you must put a lid on the bottle's nozzle. You can also put the fragrance bottle in a zip-lock bag and try to remove all air from the zip-lock bag. Put the cologne inside the zip-lock. In soft clothing, you must also cover or wrap the zip-lock bag with the fragrance bottle. Sealing the bottle or the cologne container in the checked baggage is important. Please carry a cologne bottle that is travel size and be observant with regards to putting the cologne bottle near a hard object. There are refillable containers available on Amazon that can be used to carry cologne. Even the small test samples for cologne are also applicable when carrying perfume on a trip via airplane.
