Is Japan Expensive For Tourists? Why Is It Still Seeing A Boost In The Travel Booking?

BY  Sibashree Sep 24, 2021

I have been to Japan many times, and the cultural richness and the sensory delights the country offers make the experience worth it!  However, these days, I see a lot of people asking, “Is Japan expensive to visit?”  Another question in this regard is why Japan is witnessing a major boost in travel booking.  Now, first, let me answer that Japan is not as expensive as people are projecting it. Be it the day trips from Tokyo or exploring the cherry blossom season in Kyoto, if you plan an itinerary and the modes of transport well, you can complete the trip within a decent budget.  Furthermore, thanks to smart tools such as the Japan Rail Pass, you can now make transport more convenient and flexible.  Also, whether Japan is expensive or not will depend on the country you are traveling from and how the currency of your country fares against the Japanese Yen.  On the other hand, Japan is enjoying a massive surge in popularity among Gen Z tourists due to many reasons. However, sushi, manga, and anime are the three major factors driving this rise.  While Japan can be managed on a moderate budget, and I have shared the three main reasons behind the rising popularity of Japan, let’s delve deeper into how much a trip to Japan costs and the other factors causing a rise in Japanese tourism.  Why Is Japan Expensive To Visit? Is It The Growing Craze?  Do you know that American Express Travel data shows a 1300% hike in the number of Americans visiting Japan since 2019?  Furthermore, Netflix has confirmed that Anime viewership has gone 3 times up in 2025.  Now, these pieces of information show how young Americans, especially the Gen Z travelers, are passionate about Japan.  The country is now a cultural superpower with its “Soft Power” that it has used to build the global landscape of entertainment, aesthetics, and ideas.  Joseph Nye, a political scientist at Harvard University, has highlighted the strength of Japan’s soft power.  Overall, Japan is not just a new country to visit for these young travelers. It is an escape to the land of rich culture, great food, and soaking in the spirit of slow tourism.  However, the rising craze among young travelers is not the reason behind Japan being labelled as an expensive destination.  In fact, it is amazing to see tourism in Japan growing despite the high travel expenses being  high.  Key Reasons For Japan Being An Expensive Destination To Visit  Japan is expensive as a destination primarily for three reasons. First of all, the Shinkansen bullet trains, extensively used for transportation, are very expensive.  Also, while I found Osaka food from the street stalls quite affordable, trying Sushi, Ramen, or other Japanese staples in a fine dining restaurant can be very expensive.  Furthermore, Japan almost entirely depends on imported energy.  Despite an improvement of 22.4% in the net energy import during the period of 2020 to 2024, the net energy import of Japan in 2024 was 87.4% of the total energy supply, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA).  Thus, the fuel cost is always high in Japan, impacting the transportation expenses, the cost of essential commodities, and every other sector in a direct or indirect manner. Is Japan Expensive To Visit? A Breakdown Of Tourist Costs  So, Japan is expensive to visit. However, what can be the overall expense tentatively?  What will be the expenses on food, transportation, and accommodation? Here is a detailed breakdown.  1. Tourist Accommodation Cost In Japan Japan is very sincere about the hospitality it offers. So, even if you are staying at a budget hotel or hostel, you will find good hygiene and the basic amenities.  Furthermore, along with hostels, Japan has unique accommodation provisions such as the capsule hotels.  These are basically sleeping pods, and the cost is similar to staying in hostels.  On the other hand, you will find a minshuku, which is like a Japanese version of homestays. You will get bed and breakfast facilities at these accommodations run by local families.  Nevertheless, have a look at the table below to understand the different types of accommodation for tourists in Japan and their average costs.  Types of Tourist Accommodation in JapanTentative Cost Hostels and Capsule Hotels2000-4500 JPYBudget Hotels5000-10000 JPYBread and Breakfast 5000-8500 JPYStandard Hotels10000 JPY Onward Moreover, if you’re looking to move to Japan after your trip there, check out reliable websites to know the best places for foreigners where you can call home. 2. The Cost Of General Public Transport In Japan  The Japanese Bullet Train or Shinkansen is the most preferred mode of transport in the country.  The Cost Of Traveling In A Bullet Train And The JR Pass However, the travel cost is very high if you are traveling by these bullet trains.  On average, and based on the departing station or the destination, the cost will be around 16000-20000 JPY per ride (the ticket price can go much higher).  For example, if you take a bullet train from Tokyo to Shin Amori, the price for a reserved seat will be 21340 JPY.  On the other hand, for the Green Seat and the GranClass Seats, the ticket prices will be 27410 JPY and 34410 JPY, respectively.  On the other hand, a Tokyo to Kyoto bullet train ticket starts from 16550 JPY.  Now, this is where a Japan Rail Pass becomes handy. As a tourist, you can buy a Japan Rail Pass for 7 days, and the cost starts from 50,000 JPY for an adult. For a child, it is 25000 JPY.  You can even buy passes for 14 days or 21 days. With this pass, you can enjoy unlimited rides during the validity period.  Moreover, if you want to focus on Tokyo and its nearby areas, the Regional Pass will be a more budget-friendly option.   Also, cabs are pretty expensive in Japan. For a ride of 1 to 2 kilometers, you will have to pay around 500 to 700 JPY.  After that, a fee of 80-100 JPY will be added for traveling every 250 to 300 meters.  3. The Cost Of Hiring A Tour Guide In Japan  The cost of hiring a tour guide in Japan is between 25000 and 60000 JPY per month. However, the cost of the travel guide will depend on the services you opt for.  You can choose a guide for a full day, and the cost can be up to 80000 JPY, and for a half day guide, it will be around 25000-47000 JPY.  Furthermore, if you are traveling in small groups or vans, the cost of hiring a guide will be around 24000 JPY.  So, hiring a personal travel guide is expensive in Japan. However, you can save the cost of hiring a guide by seeking help from the local tourist centers or the national tourist departments.  4. Food And Drink Cost In Japan Food is one of the most important factors for Gen Z travelers visiting Japan. A survey said that around 50% of the visitors planned a trip just because they wanted to visit a restaurant or try some specific food.  Also, food and drinks are available in various cost ranges. So if you are planning to take the authentic taste of sushi, you will get plenty of options available there.  From the expensive designer boutiques to Kaiten-zushi style shops everywhere, the multiple authentic sushi dishes are valuable.  You can select the place according to your requirements.  In the boutique’s style restaurant, you have to spend nearly 51000 JPY for sushi, but if you prefer the sushi in a low-cost range, you have to spend only 1593 JPY for sushi.  If you want to explore Japan on a budget. You can quickly shift your choices to Japanese cuisine and cut your travel budget by cutting the foreign food items. How To Plan Budget-Friendly Travel In Japan? Do you want to travel in Japan on a budget? Here are the tips you can follow.  1. Make A Tour Plan In The Off Season  Off-season tour plans are always budget-friendly. The Autumn season is an off-season to travel in Japan, and this time the tourist rush is not very high. 2. Take The Railroad  Take the railroad to explore the city and buy the railway card to see the tourist places in the country. 3. Focus On Local Cuisine  Focus on the local, authentic, fresh Japanese dishes. If you’re looking for cheap food in Japan, you can buy it in small restaurants, street food stalls, and even vending machine cafes.  However, if you stay in the country for an extended period, you can save money on your travel by preparing and cooking most of your meals from scratch. 4. Find An Accomodation Far From The Main Crowded Cities  Try to find accommodation that is a little bit far from the main crowded cities. Make sure to book your accommodation ahead of time to save a lot of money. Hostels and the local guest houses are also charming, clean places to stay. However, when planning a Japan tour, it is better to keep away from the expensive luxury boutique-type accommodations. 5. Look For Free Attractions  Look for free attractions and events to save money.  Whether you want to spend a fun day in a national park or visit a museum, there are incredible activities that allow you to enjoy Japan without paying anything.

By the afternoon, try snowboarding in the Atlas Mountains, and when the day is about to finish, relax in a luxurious riad. Morocco is a huge country with a legendary landscape that makes it a pleasure to travel through.  While we need a separate discussion on the top attractions in Morocco, in this article, we will talk about the best time to visit Morocco. Morocco is a huge country with a legendary landscape that makes it a pleasure to travel through. Distancing can be stressful but the stunning destinations are just worth it. People often ask when is the best time to visit Morocco, here is an article in which not only we will talk about the best time to visit Morocco but also will provide the route guide. Best Time To Visit Morocco One can definitely consider spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) to be the best time of year to visit morocco.  These are called the shoulder seasons where the climate covers a great way to appreciate every bit of assorted landscape this country has been offering to every tourist. There are many factors that affect the weather in morocco. The north and north-western experience the Mediterranean climate while on the other hand the south and the southeastern part have a continental climate because of the Sahara desert.  Between them, there is also the High Atlas mountain range that altogether brings about a different environment. From June to August in Morocco is known as the peak season. Match Your Month To Your Route: Regional Weather And Ramadan Planning There is no single best month that works for every part of Morocco. That is why the shoulder seasons above are a starting point rather than a rule.  So, the right answer to the best time to visit Morocco depends on your route. Also, a trip that crosses the whole country is usually most comfortable in April, May, October, and early November.  The table below shows how the main regions differ. How Weather Differs Across The Country RegionComfortable monthsWhat to watchAtlantic coast (Essaouira, Casablanca, Rabat)Year-round destinations, and summer highs sit around 25–30°CWinters are mild but can be wet and breezy,Imperial cities (Marrakech, Fes, Meknes)March to May and September to NovemberMarrakech regularly reaches about 38°C. in July and August.Winter nights can dip to around 5°C.High AtlasSpring to autumn for trekkingSnow falls regularly at elevation in winter. Oukaimeden is the best-known ski area.Sahara (Merzouga, Zagora)October to AprilSummer highs can pass 45°C. So, reputable operators avoid desert camping then. Temperature ranges are drawn from Approach Tours’ Morocco weather guide, and the snow details from Complete Morocco.  Treat them as typical ranges, since conditions vary by year and altitude. Planning Around Ramadan Ramadan moves roughly ten days earlier every year.  In 2027, it is expected to begin around 7 or 8 February and end around 8 March, according to the Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs.  Morocco confirms the official start only after the crescent moon is sighted by the Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs. So, keep a day of flexibility for anything time-sensitive. Many local cafĂ©s and food stalls close or shorten their hours during the day in Ramadan. However, evenings after iftar are lively.  If you want long daytime lunches in the Medina, choose another month.  If you prefer a quieter, more reflective trip, it can be a rewarding time to go.  This is separate from the winter low season described above, which is about weather and crowds rather than closures. A Winter Route That Combines Snow And Sand Desert and snow can share a single itinerary.  In winter, it is entirely possible to cross snowy Atlas landscapes on the way to the dry valleys and the Sahara.  Pack layers for cold mountain roads and chilly desert nights, and check road conditions locally after storms.  In short, pack for your route, not just for the word “Morocco.” Know The Best Places To Visit In Morocco  Morocco offers diverse, top-tier destinations spanning historical cities like the former capital Meknes and the modern Casablanca.  You can explore the blue-painted streets of Chefchaouen, the coastal murals of Asilah, and Rabat's beaches.  For adventure, the country features dramatic High Atlas mountain trekking and unforgettable starry nights in the Sahara Desert. 1. Glass Beach is one of the best beaches in Italy. Italy itself is a fantastic place, and the sea beaches are attached to sentiments too. People visit beaches on their honeymoon, sometimes with family and sometimes with buddies.  Even for a solo trip, Italy can be your best option. Here, no one will stop you from taking pleasure. For every purpose, Italian sea beaches are fantastic. So, now see them with super excitement.  Now, Look Forward To The Best Beaches In Italy Shore tides are an exciting factor for everyone. People fall in love with the natural beauty of the beaches. But in Italy, the visualization will be a bit different than others. The central part of Italy is its long coastline. The coastline that Italy has is more than 4750 miles. However, you can walk on the beach as far as you want. You may go on a trip to Italy after knowing.  1. Scala dei Turchi, Sicily The Scala dei Turchi is basically what you call the Turkish Steps in Italian. This beach is a stunning rocky cliff located near Realmonte on the southern coast of Sicily. The name has its roots in the Middle Ages. So, this was the scene when Ottoman corsairs would find refuge from fierce sea winds behind these striking white marlstone cliffs. At the base of Scala dei Turchi, you'll find a unique beach. Here, the fiery bronze sands beautifully contrast against the vibrant blue of the ocean and the pale cliffs above.  If you’re in Sicily, it’s definitely worth the two-hour drive from Palermo, especially if you stay at Villa Igie. It is an exquisite Rocco Forte Hotel. Just keep in mind that while the scenery is breathtaking, the swimming conditions here can be a bit limited. So it’s more of a picturesque spot to enjoy rather than a place for a swim.  2. San Fruttuoso, Liguria  The charm of Italian coastal life isn't just found in the south. If you head north to Genoa, you can easily reach the stunning San Fruttuoso. Just remember, this hidden bay requires a hike from Portofino or a ferry from Rapallo or Comoglu. But that effort is part of the adventure  San Fruttuoso is named after a lovely abbey dedicated to St. Fructuosus. So let’s face it. Summer in Italy is all about indulgence. So why not treat yourself to a stay at the luxurious Splendido, A Belmond Hotel, in Portofino? With its plush rooms and breathtaking views of the Ligurian Sea, it feels like a true slice of paradise.  3. Chiaia di Luna, Ponza  Chiaia means “beach” in Neapolitan dialect. It perfectly captures the essence of this stunning crescent-shaped stretch of sand. It is nestled at the base of a towering 328-foot volcanic rock cliff. You'll find this gem on Ponza. It is the largest island in the beautiful Pontine archipelago. Ponza is renowned for its: Breathtaking beaches  Idyllic coves  Enchanting grottoes  Delightful seafood restaurants  Getting to this slice of paradise is an adventure in itself. Begin your journey by taking a train from Rome to Anzio. It is a charming fishing port town with its own unique character. From Anzio, hop on a ferry for a scenic two-hour ride that leads you straight to Ponza. Once you arrive, consider staying at the Hotel Chiaia di Luna. This lovely hotel not only offers comfortable rooms and inviting dining areas but also boasts a pool with panoramic views of the awe-inspiring landscape surrounding you. It's the perfect spot to unwind and soak in the natural beauty of the island.  4. La Pelosa, Sardinia  Sicily often takes the crown when it comes to Italian islands, but let’s not overlook the charm of Sardinia. It’s the second-largest island in the Mediterranean. Also, it boasts a remarkable variety of landscapes that are largely untouched. You will find everything here, from wooded forests to flat plains. It also includes:   Rugged coastlines  Stunning beaches  Soft sandy shores  Crystal-clear blue waters.  One of the hidden gems is La Pelosa, tucked away in the island's northwestern corner. Getting to La Pelosa is easy: a quick one-hour flight from Rome to Alghero will do the trick. You can base yourself in Alghero, where the Villa Las Tronas Hotel & Spa offers a lovely stay. Renting a car after your arrival is a smart move, as it allows you to explore the breathtaking towns along the Sardinian coast at your own pace.  5. Spiaggia dei Conigli, Lampedusa  Just an hour away by flight from Naples, Lampedusa is Italy's southernmost island, sitting closer to Africa than to mainland Europe. Additionally, it is known for its beautiful beaches. Also, the Spiaggia dei Conigli, or Beach of the Rabbits, is a highlight. Despite its name, don’t expect to see rabbits here; it likely comes from a mistranslation regarding a nearby islet. The island is rich in wildlife, including sea turtles and herring gulls. To visit, fly in from Palermo or take a ferry from Agrigento, Sicily. Be sure to reserve access to the beach and islet, but if you forget, there is a pool at Cupola Bianca Resort. It is a great alternative.  6. Baia dei Turchi, Puglia  If you’re looking for an amazing beach experience, check out Baia dei Turchi in Puglia. It's a hidden gem, about a 10-minute drive north of Otranto, and it’s not to be mistaken for the Scala dei Turchi in Sicily. Additionally, this beach is not just about its beauty. It’s steeped in history. It is named after a battle that took place in the 15th century between the locals and the Ottoman Turks. The beach stretches for about a mile, boasting stunning white sands and incredibly clear waters. It's honestly one of the cleanest beaches in Italy. Also, it earned it the prestigious Blue Flag status for environmental quality. Moreover, getting there might seem like a bit of a trek since it's actually closer to Albania across the Adriatic Sea than to Rome. For a quicker trip, I’d recommend flying into Brindisi and then driving down. However, if you’re keen on a more eco-friendly option, you can take the train and bus right to Otranto. Once you’re in the area, consider staying at the Hotel Palazzo Papaleo.  I’ve also heard great things about Masseria Prosperi. It is a charming six-room retreat situated on a working farm just a short drive from the beach. It’s the perfect spot to unwind after a day in the sun!  7. Cala GoloritzĂ©, Sardinia  Cala GoloritzĂ© is a beautiful spot created by a landslide in 1962, nestled at the base of a ravine on the eastern coast of Sardinia. Moreover, though small, it boasts stunning limestone cliffs, soft ivory sand, and amazing blue-green waters of the Gulf of Orosei. This picturesque place was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995. It is famous for its impressive rock formations, including a tall spire and a natural stone arch.  Furthermore, you can reach Cala GoloritzĂ© by car and then take a short hike, which can be a bit rocky, from Santa Maria Navarrese. This charming town is home to the Lanthia Resort, where you can enjoy a private beach on relaxing days. To get to the area, you can drive up from Cagliari. It is the capital of Sardinia and is accessible by plane from cities like Rome or Milan, or through an overnight ferry from Naples.  8. Vendicari Nature Reserve, Sicily  On Sicily’s Ionian coast, just a short drive from the historic city of Siracusa (the original Syracuse), is the beautiful Vendicari Nature Reserve. This peaceful area is filled with flamingos, herons, and storks roaming free among the tranquil, clear waters. The reserve features lovely little coves and some of Sicily's best beaches, like Calamosche Beach, where you can easily find a spot to relax for the day.  If you're exploring this part of Sicily, consider staying at the Grand Hotel Ortigia Siracusa, a charming and well-known hotel in the city. You can reach Siracusa from Catania, which has an airport with good connections to major cities like Rome, Milan, Paris, London, and Barcelona.  9. Cala Pulcino, Lampedusa  Not far from Spiaggia dei Conigli on Lampedusa, you'll find the charming Cala Pulcino, which translates to Chicken Beach. Also, the name might be a bit of a joke, given that reaching this spot involves a 30-minute trek over rocky paths and through thick vegetation.  Therefore, it is definitely not for the faint-hearted! But once you finally arrive, the effort pays off with gorgeous powdery sand, stunning views, and the endless, vibrant blue of the Mediterranean stretching out before you.  So, to get to Cala Pulcino, you'll need to take a short flight from Palermo or hop on a ferry from Agrigento, Sicily. If you're looking for a cozy place to stay on the island, I recommend checking out Hotel Sole Lampedusa. The rooms are comfortable and well-equipped. However, the real highlight is their restaurant, Sottosale, where you can indulge in delicious seafood and mouth-watering Sicilian dishes.  So, don't miss out on the pistachio cannoli. It is a true treat!  10. Cala di Volpe, Sardinia  This delightful beach is a little gem along Sardinia’s Costa Smeralda. It is famous because it is one of the most stunning and pricey coastlines in Italy. Back in the mid-2010s, real estate prices here soared to an astonishing $40,000 per square foot! Additionally, the beach is very famous for its breathtaking Bermuda-blue waters, and the luxurious Cala di Volpe resort sits right by it. Moreover, the great news is that even if you are not staying at the hotel, you can still enjoy the beautiful waters since they’re open to the public.  If you struggle to find a spot for your beach blanket, don’t worry! There are plenty of other beaches nearby. To reach the Costa Smeralda, you can fly or take a ferry to Olbia. Then, rent a car to explore the many charming resort towns that make this section of Sardinia so special  Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)  These are the most common and frequently asked questions about the best beaches in Italy. Pripyat Visit Or The Soviet Union Through Our Eyes

BY  Abdul Aziz Oct 3, 2020

There are countless stories and myths that abound about Chernobyl.   While some say that it was just an accident at a nuclear plant, others point to a warring country being responsible for causing it.   The nuclear accident at Chernobyl happened in the erstwhile USSR era.  This was roughly around the same time when the Cold War was raging between the Communist USSR and the Western Capitalist world. The stories, myths, and controversies have made Chernobyl somewhat of an urban legend.  Chernobyl has become so famous that it has been featured in a Netflix series.   It has also started attracting audiences and tourists from all over the world, who want to see one of the most significant remnants of our modern history.  An Introduction to Pripyat, the city surrounding Chernobyl Visiting Pripyat today, we can only imagine that it was a city of opportunity, where almost every resident had a prestigious job and a promising future.   This city is located on the Pripyat River, 3 kilometers from the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, and has been prosperous and advanced since its foundation.  Until April 26, 1986, when the explosion at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant forced more than 300 thousand people to leave their homes due to the threat of radiation.   This is how the exclusion zone appeared. It was an area of 2,600 square kilometers, free of people.  Before the Chernobyl incident, Pripyat was one of the most economically developed and bustling cities of the USSR.   The trade, commerce, and lifestyle of the people were as good as it could get under a Communist regime.   Culturally, Pripyat embodied the best of the USSR. The Chernobyl accident was a major turning point in the fortunes of the city and its inhabitants.  The Problems faced by Inhabitants of Pripyat after the Chernobyl Accident Many inhabitants had to move to government camps and medical facilities.   There was monitoring for radiation, and many also faced isolation and therapy.   Even after the nuclear winter ended, water and soil here had traces of radiation. The government could not ever settle inhabitants in the city.   Many had to migrate thousands of miles to different regions, often starting from scratch.  The accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant changed hundreds of thousands of destinies.  It caused enormous economic damage and was a crushing blow to the nuclear industry.   In the shortest possible time, the whole city was to be empty. People could only take their documents. As Pripyat was a bustling center of trade and commerce, you can still see so many markets, big complexes, theatres, and auditoriums. Many historians have stated that Pripyat was as rich and powerful as Moscow was. However, after the accident, there was just chaos and destruction as far as the eye could see. How Did Chernobyl Look Like During My Last Visit? Here is what you can expect if you visit Chernobyl today When I last visited Chernobyl, it was like returning to the distant Soviet Union.   I could still see elements of communist propaganda, personal belongings scattered on the streets, and abandoned buildings.   The hammer and sickle adorned the lanterns on the eve of the May holidays.   Toys were scattered across the schoolyard, abandoned by children in the confusion. The clock in the city showed 11:55, the time of the power outage. Nature Conquering The Human Race In Chernobyl Chernobyl visit gave me an opportunity to see how nature conquers human error. Pripyat turns into a forest.   Here is what I have seen. Shelter “Sarcophagus It covered the destroyed Unit 4 to protect the environment from continued exposure to radiation. The Exclusion Zone Excursions along this area were conducted with visits to local “attractions”, museums, and communication with self-settlers.  Amusement Park The official opening of the amusement park was planned for May 1, 1986.  Red Forest It had absorbed a huge dose of radioactive dust.   Most of the trees died, and the survivors took on a rusty hue.  The Bridge of Death The townspeople came here to see the burning reactor, not knowing that the radiation level here was one of the highest in the city.   Over the past decade, hundreds of thousands of tourists made a visit to Chernobyl and Pripyat. But, believe me, the emotions that you feel when you find yourself in this city cannot be compared with anything. Why And How Tourism Is Banned In Chernobyl Today Tourism to the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone drew close to 100,000 visitors in 2019 alone.  However, it came to a halt in February 2022 when Russian forces crossed into Ukraine from Belarus and occupied the plant and surrounding area within hours of the invasion beginning.   Soldiers reportedly dug military trenches directly into the ground of the Red Forest, one of the most radioactively contaminated patches of soil on the planet.  Thus, it kicked up decades-old contaminated dust in the process.   Although Russian troops withdrew after roughly a month, the occupation left lasting damage, and looters stripped research facilities of equipment in the aftermath.   The security situation has not eased since.   In early 2025, a Russian drone struck the New Safe Confinement, the $1.5 billion arch built to seal the ruined reactor for the next century.  It proved that even the site's most critical infrastructure remained vulnerable to attack.   Because of this ongoing risk, Ukrainian authorities have kept the zone closed to regular visitors, prioritizing security over tourism revenue while the war continues.   Licensed tour operators that once ran day trips and multi-day excursions have largely paused operations, with some pivoting instead to virtual tours.   Officials have signaled that reopening remains a long-term goal.   Ukraine signed decrees before the invasion aiming to develop the zone as a tourism and heritage site.  More recent memoranda between the Chernobyl plant authority and the city of Slavutych point to plans for a post-war revival.   However, there is still no lasting peace. So, only accredited journalists, scientists, and plant workers can enter Pripyat and the wider Exclusion Zone.  A Recent BBC Visit: What Happened At Chernobyl, 40 Years On In April 2026, the BBC marked the 40th anniversary of the disaster with a televised visit to the site, produced as part of its documentary What Happened at Chernobyl.   Presented by journalist Jordan Dunbar, the report retraces the events of April 1986. It also examines the reason behind concealing the data from the public for so long.   The BBC crew walked through the plant's control room. It was where the fatal decisions were made.  It also toured the surrounding area, including Pripyat, capturing footage of the abandoned apartment blocks, the overgrown boulevards, and the rusting Ferris wheel that never opened to the public.   Dunbar also spoke with two liquidators, the workers who carried out the dangerous clean-up operation in the disaster's immediate aftermath.   The documentary situates this reporting within the present, noting the continued relevance of the site amid the war in Ukraine, and traces the fallout's reach across Ukraine, Belarus, and Russia.   A companion piece, The Last Dancefloor in Chernobyl, follows a young couple and a local DJ.  On the eve of their wedding, the explosion forced an immediate evacuation.   Together, the segments offer one of the most detailed recent looks inside the Exclusion Zone.  It was possible only because journalists, unlike ordinary tourists, can still secure the accreditation needed to enter under wartime restrictions.  Practical Tips For Visiting Pripyat And Chernobyl Safely Once Pripyat is open to visitors again, follow these tips before planning a trip.   Carry A Valid Passport   Because the Exclusion Zone remains an active radiological monitoring area, every visitor must carry a valid passport.  Also, most operators require your details at least two to three days in advance.  The Ukrainian authorities need this time to process the necessary clearance.   Spontaneous, walk-up visits are not possible here the way they might be at a typical tourist attraction.  Radiological Safety   Radiation exposure on a standard one-day tour is comparable to the dose you receive on a long-haul transatlantic flight.  It is roughly 2 to 6 microsieverts. They will also give you a dosimeter to track your own exposure throughout the day.   That said, guides are strict about where you can walk.   Certain hotspots, particularly around the Red Forest and near buried machinery, register far higher readings.  Also, don’t step off marked paths or pick up objects from the ground. It is important both for radiological safety and to preserve the site for future visitors.  Be Particular About Clothing   Clothing matters more than most people expect.   Long sleeves, long trousers, and closed shoes are mandatory in all seasons.  Exposed skin picks up radioactive dust more easily than shielded surfaces.   Many tour operators also recommend clothing and shoes you do not mind discarding afterward.  And most exit checkpoints have radiation scanners that will flag anything that needs to be left behind.  Know The Best Time To Visit   Seasonally, spring and autumn offer the most comfortable walking conditions.  Mild temperatures and fewer of the biting insects appear in Pripyat's overgrown courtyards during summer.   Winter visits have their own appeal.   Snow cover mutes the color of the abandoned buildings. Winter also lends the city an even eerier stillness.  Moreover, the cold can make longer walking tours more demanding.  Know The Photography Norms  Photography is generally welcomed.  It is one of the main draws for many travelers.  However, drones require separate permits that are rarely granted.  So, don't plan around aerial shots.   It is also worth noting that mobile signal is patchy at best inside the zone.  So download offline maps and let someone outside the tour know your itinerary before you go.  Read Also: 10 Best Places To Visit In Europe Top Places To Visit In Italy On Your Next Travel Escapade

BY  Ankita Jul 26, 2018

Barcelona is one of the cities that will appeal to you in all senses. You will find some tapas for gobbling and wines for swirling.  As a visitor, you can also explore some passageways and ponder the availability of great paintings.  Barcelona is an excellent sightseeing destination.  The people are amazing and have a very rich culture. Further, there is an endless list of things to do in Barcelona.  You will always get a few interesting things irrespective of your tastes and preferences.  In this context, we will only examine the 10 best things to do in Barcelona. We want you to have an amazing moment while touring this great destination. 10 Best Things To Do In Barcelona The Olympic Games in 1992 were a big turning point in the tourism of Barcelona. With cultural heritage, amazing architecture, and a spirited atmosphere, it never lacked the prospect of being a tourism hotspot.  In fact, Statista's report suggests that Barcelona has been among the top ten European destinations to “have the highest number of overnights” in 2022. So, your European tour must include Barcelona for the most fulfilling experience.  Let’s set the itinerary for your trip right!  1. Exploring Barri Gotic : The breadth and concentration of the Barri Gòtic hold a candle to no other place in the world.  It is the oldest section of the city, in which the labyrinthine streets empty into medieval places. It has some of the best shopping places in the city.  You can find some handmade espadrilles and affordable souvenirs, as well as cherries from some of the shops. The stock-to-ceiling stacks are marvelous, making it worth your visit. The Gothic and old charm of Barri Gotic is hard to ignore, and the place where Barri Gotic is today is, in fact, the place where the history of Barcelona began.  With the cathedral La Seu at the heart, the winding alleys of the old city today tell the tales of Roman dominion here for 500 years.  Further, the city came under the spotlight after the Olympics in 1992.  2. Visiting El Palau de la Musica Catalana : Gaudi is the most detectable face of Catalan Moderniste, but most of his contemporaries also left a mark on Barcelona. LluĂs Domenech Monster was one of them, and this was a Barcelona architect who was behind the construction of the Palace of Catalan Music in 1908.  It is a chosen UNESCO site for world heritage. The interior of this auditorium bursts with texture, pattern, and color. It culminates in the skylight during the day, and the performance will occur without switching on even a single light.  “Palau de la MĂşsica Catalana and Hospital de Sant Pau are two of the finest contributions to Barcelona’s architecture by the Catalan Modernista architect LluĂs Domènech i Montaner. The Palau de la MĂşsica Catalana is an exuberant steel-framed structure full of light and space, decorated by the leading artists of the period. It has uniqueness, authenticity, and beauty and is an unparalleled Modernista example of a public concert hall whose symbolic, artistic, and historical value is universal.”UNESCO World Heritage Convention Opera, orchestral, and choral music reign in this place and also features mainstream artists like Pace de Lucia, Norah Jones, and Fitzgerald. 3. Paying A Visit To Fundacio Joan Miro : https://www.instagram.com/p/CpYPwSeo4BW/?img_index=1 This hill rises behind the city center, and a Catalan artist founded it in 1968. His primary intention was to make his artwork more accessible to the general public. Currently, over 10,000 masterpieces that he has made are on display, from the early surrealist paintings to the later works that Dada inspired.  Make sure you don’t miss the Man and Woman that is in front of the excrement pile, even if you are in for only 30 minutes. 4. Exploring La Boqueria : This gastronomic mecca attracts over 45,000 visitors daily. La Boqueria is one of the most popular food markets globally for all the good reasons. The Food & Wine Magazine has called La Boqueria the best market in the world this year.  It has a list of endless stalls that lure buyers with plentiful displays of the finest seafood, charcuterie, cheeses, and produce that the region has to produce.  With time, some of the vendors have adapted to the demands of tourists, but you can still taste the original foods of Barcelona in this region.  Some of the delicacies like Calamarcets amb Mongetes and Citrons amb botifarra negre have been in existence for more than half a century. This should not be missed on your list of things to do in Barcelona. 5. Visiting The National Museum of Catalan Art : You can be sure that there are so many Renaissance and Baroque masterpieces in this place. It is home to one of the most famous portraits of Diego Velazquez, San Pablo.  The scope of the Romanesque of this museum is what sets it apart. It is one of the most exhaustive in the whole world. You will be sure to seek out the biblical title of Apse of Saint Clement de Taull, which is the crown jewel of the collection. The national museum is one of the best things to visit in Barcelona. 6. Visiting Santa Maria Del Mar : Visiting the Santa Maria Del Mar is one of the things to do in Barcelona, Spain, that makes your trip complete. You will gain some perspective on its antiquity and the resilient nature of the architectonic tradition of Barcelona.   You will realize that each border that was used in the construction of this church was hauled one at a time from the surrounding shoreline and mountainsides by ordinary civilians.\ This project was completed in 1383, 54 years after laying the first stone.  The citizens marveled at the end product, which was a soaring Gothic temple that was accented with the use of vivid stained glass panels. The temple is buttressed with sparse, illuminated with natural light, and improbably slender columns.  Most of the original structures of Barcelona remain intact to date, even though there are some interior damages that came out of the 11-day fire of the 1936 Spanish Civil War. 7. Spending Some Time At La Sagrada Familia  La Sagrada Familia is an architectural feat in Barcelona that has been and continues to be controversial. Scholars have continued to debate whether the engineers strayed so much from the original vision of architect Antoni Gaudi.  This is the biggest achievement of the Catalan building even though other residents view this resident to be an expensive, glaring parody. There is no way you will fail to get caught up with the magical appearance of this place once you put academic bickering aside. It has been under construction for the last 150 years and is pending completion in 2026. It is the tallest religious building in Europe and, hence, one of the best things to see in Barcelona. Long queues characterize the place, and hence, it’s advisable to buy your tickets in advance. 8. Strolling Through Las Ramblas : One of the top things to do in Barcelona is strolling through Las Ramblas. It is a broad, shady boulevard running via the city heart right away from Place de Catalunya to Port Vell.  It’s good for taking street performances, ambling down trees, or watching people from the terrace. You will not have any dull moments while at this place. You can also have a bird’s eye view of the city and sea at the 18th-story Columbus Monument. 9. Spending Some Time At Park Guell : This is the hugest triumph in the planning of the urban center and displays the sculptor in the most organic manner. The structures (walkways, pillars, fountains, houses) or these architectural parks are some of the best places to visit in Barcelona.  The columns of this structure shoot up like trunks of trees, its arches jam like openings of a cave, and giant lizards guard the fountains with scales that are fashioned out of mosaic tiles.  As you follow the steep while leaving this monumental area on the uphill path, you will find sweeping views that motivate you. This park only allows 400 visitors per hour. So it's advisable to book in advance. 10. Visiting The Magical Museum Picasso : https://www.instagram.com/p/DAshrO-IITI/?img_index=1 Picasso may have been from Malaga in southern Spain, but he chose Barcelona. He apprenticed as a young artist in this city.  The museum houses 4251 early works of Picasso, like engraving, painting, and sculpture, and these are some of the best things to see in Barcelona. There are so many things to do in Barcelona, and you cannot finish all of them. Do thorough research and choose what interests you so as to get the most from your trip to the area. The most important thing is to make sure that you get value from your trip to Barcelona. What Is The Best Time To Visit Barcelona? The best time to try the top things to do In Barcelona is September to November. I know this is not a popular opinion. But trust me! The number of tourist is very less to Barcelona during this season. So, there are better chances of exploring the hand-picked destinations and outdoor pursuits. However, if you want to enjoy the best weather and festivals in Barcelona, March to June will be the ideal season. During these months, Barcelona has noted celebrations, such as Primavera Sound, Corpus Christi, Festival Of San Juan, and Barcelona Gay Pride. Barcelona Planning Update For 2026: Sagrada FamĂlia, Getting Around And Tourist Tax Some updates in 2026 can affect your sightseeing plans and your budget. Here is what to know before you book. What Is New At La Sagrada FamĂlia The basilica’s central Tower of Jesus Christ was completed on the outside on 20 February 2026, when the upper arm of its cross was installed.  Pope Leo XIV then blessed the tower on 10 June 2026, and at 172.5 metres, it makes the Sagrada FamĂlia the world’s tallest church.  The building is not finished, though.  Interior work will continue through 2027 and 2028. So, book a timed ticket well ahead, as advised above. Getting Around: T-casual Or A Tourist Pass Most sights on this list are linked by metro, bus and tram.  The T-casual is a 10-journey ticket that can be loaded onto a card or a phone, and it works in any fare sector. However, it is not valid at the airport stations on metro line L9 Sud. So, you will need a separate airport ticket if you take that line.  The Hola Barcelona travel card includes airport metro and train travel.  Also, prices are updated periodically, so check the current fare on the TMB site before you buy. Lock In The Timed Entries First Because Park GĂĽell caps entry at 400 visitors an hour, as mentioned earlier, and the Sagrada FamĂlia draws long queues, secure those two time slots first and build the rest of your itinerary around them.  The Barri Gòtic, Las Ramblas, Santa Maria del Mar and La Boqueria are close together in the old town. So, they are generally easier to fit in without a fixed time slot Budget For The Higher Tourist Tax Since 1 April 2026, Barcelona’s tourist tax has doubled.  According to Barcelona City Council, a guest at a five-star hotel now pays a total of €12 per night, made up of a €7 tax and a €5 municipal surcharge, compared with €7.50 before.  Other accommodation types pay less, and the city surcharge is set to rise by €1 a year until it reaches a maximum of €8 per night in 2029.  The tax applies to the first seven nights of a continuous stay.  Your hotel or rental host collects it. So, ask for the all-in nightly cost before you confirm a booking.

Further, these magnificent beasts, sporting white fur, camouflage themselves with the environs as they patiently wait for their prey.  One of the best places to view these lovely creatures is the Hemis National Park. This park is home to more than 200 snow leopards and is best visited during winter. 8. Explore Buddhist Monasteries! The various monasteries in Ladakh are some of the most ancient ones in the world. As such, they are a repertoire of knowledge and wisdom. One of the oldest monasteries in Ladakh is the Spituk Monastery.  It also enjoys a fabulous location and offers panoramic views of the surroundings. Another monastery worth checking out is Hemis Monastery. Besides being the biggest in all of Ladakh, it also hosts the famous Hemis Festival in June every year. 9. The Royal side of Ladakh! The magnificent Leh Palace lies in a dilapidated state in this day and age. However, its grandeur is still reflected in its wood and stone ruins. It is often visited by history and architecture enthusiasts.  Built by King Namgyal in the 17th century, this building is nine stories high. One can get panoramic views of the Zanskar and Stok Kangri ranges that traverse the Indus Valley. 10. Opt for a homestay! A great way to get acquainted with the culture of Ladakh is by opting for a homestay. Try to get in touch with a local family.  The warm-hearted people will host you with great zeal and enthusiasm. Enjoy a drink of butter tea, taste some delicious momos (dumplings), and have a great time. 11. Gaze at the starlit sky! When it comes to certified stargazing in India, nothing beats Ladakh! Engaging in stargazing here transports you to the world of stars and comets.  The infinite sky, glistening with stars, casts a magical spell on the onlooker. In Ladakh, the best place to do this is the Nubra Valley. 12. The Mysterious Magnetic Hill! Ever heard of a car ascending without any external force being applied to it? Don’t be shocked; defying the laws of physics is a common experience here.  The Magnetic Hill, as it’s commonly referred to, pulls a car or a bike towards the peak. The reasons behind this occurrence are as yet unknown. However, it’s worth giving it a try! 13. River of opportunity! One of the top things to do in Ladakh is to watch the confluence of the Indus and Zanskar rivers. The frozen Zanskar River presents tremendous trekking opportunities during winter. Also known as Chadar Trek, it’s a favorite among adventure seekers. The surreal beauty of the icy world enveloping you throughout the trek leaves you overwhelmed. 14. Sipping Tea at the World’s highest Cafeteria A board stating the benefits of drinking black tea welcomes you to the Rinchen Cafeteria. Located at an altitude of 18,380ft, momos, and Maggi are also served along with tea.  This wonderful cafe has been named after Col. Rinchen for seizing Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Once here, check out the various stories, paintings, and quotes by the Army. 15. Piping hot Maggie at High Altitude! Nothing beats the taste of piping hot Maggi at high altitudes. After a tiresome journey that leaves you exhausted, this humble meal is a blessing.  One of the best places to experience this treat is Khardung La. Here, not only do you enjoy the meal, but you discover a fascinating history associated with it. 16. Participate in the Mask Festival! Hemis Mask Dance Festival is one of the famous festivals in Ladakh. This colorful and vibrant festival takes place every year at Hemis Gompa, the biggest monastery in Ladakh.  The main attractions are the mask parade and the “Chaam” dance. Here, the Lamas put on a spectacle with their burgundy and mustard yellow attires 17. Attend a Ladakhi Wedding! A wedding in Ladakh is quite a solemn affair. However, the various rituals associated with it are every bit as interesting. The couple wears ceremonial dresses while the guests, seated on small tables, are served butter tea.  Traditional songs are played, and dance goes on for hours. “Chang,” the local alcohol is served, and everyone joins in the festivities. 18. Ladakh’s local delicacies! Ladakh’s cuisine is the result of an innovative twist to Kashmiri cuisine. One of them is the delicious stew, which contains a wonderful combination of ingredients like rice, noodles, momos, Thukpa, etc.  One should also try the Yak Cheese and the Yak Cheese momos here. Of course, no meal is complete without trying the local butter tea. 19. Meditate by the famous lakes! Lakes in Ladakh enchant visitors with their breathtaking beauty. They are known as “Tso.” Pangong Tso, which means “long and narrow lake,” is the highest saltwater lake in the world.  Tso Kar and Tso Moriri are two famous lakes. Mirpal Tso attracts travelers with its sandy bed and turquoise waters. 20. Pleasures of bird watching! The enormous and arid landscape of Ladakh is a haven for diverse avifauna. This region has various species of birds as visitors. Further, many of them are endangered.  The amazing solitude makes bird watching in Ladakh a perfectly blissful activity. Bird watching is popular in Suru Valley, Rizong Monastery, and Nubra Valley, among others. 21. Pray Some, Spin Some! Ladakh has several monasteries that are as charming as they are fascinating. A visit to any of them is sure to leave you with great memories.  One of the prime activities to do in a monastery is to spin a prayer well. Spinning the prayer wheel, according to Buddhist traditions, ushers in good luck. So, when in Ladakh, spin that wheel! 22. Mingle with monks! One of the great attractions of visiting the monasteries is mingling with the monks. Saffron-clad and bald, they possess a wealth of knowledge with a good dose of humor.  Request them humbly, and you may just be in for a session of fascinating tales and stories. 23. Make-a-wish stones Since the beginning of history, stone stacking has been followed by making a wish. During earlier ages, they served the roles of messengers, signs, and landmarks.  The locals, however, believe that stacking stones brings good luck to travelers. Stack some stones, and make a wish! It’s time for manifestation. 24. Shop in the Local Markets to Carry Memories of the Ladakh Trip! Shopping takes an exciting turn in the Ladakh markets. It’s the best place for mingling with the locals and learning various aspects of their culture.  Further, the streets have numerous stalls that display exotic items. From hand-woven rugs, wall hangings, and wicker baskets to woolen bags, one finds it all here! 25. Visit Leh City after sunset! Sunsets in Leh City are unlike any other you may have come across. Here, the sun takes its own time to leisurely paint the sky red.  One of the best places to witness the sunset here is Shanti Stupa. Also, bring your camera along and capture some great shots. Five Tips For First Time Traveler To India

BY  Abdul Aziz May 7, 2017

Visiting India is akin to taking a dive into the unknown. Most travelers to India will tell you that the chaos and unceasing hullabaloo is an intrinsic part of it. Others, however, seem to successfully capture the “mystical and harmonious” spirit that apparently, is to be found everywhere in India.  Not only the land of snake charmers but more ethnic wonders, India travel should be on the top of your list for various reasons. However, regardless of what India is, or is not, there are certain tips which must be followed by every visitor to India. This ensures the best of everything while allowing one to discover all that India has to offer. Here are the five tips for first-time travelers to India. Five Tips For First Time Traveler To India: 1. Choosing The Best Route: Among the many tips for first-time visitors to India, this is one of the most important. Plan your India trip according to your interests, priorities, and fascinations. If exploring the fabulous monuments is what you desire, visit the cities of Agra, Delhi and Jaipur. From Taj Mahal and Fatehpur Sikri to Red Fort and Humayun’s Tomb, you’ll find it all here for India travel. If spiritual discovery is what you’re after, then visit the innumerable temples in North and South India, the beautiful mosques, monasteries, and churches scattered all over India. India also offers abundant opportunities for engaging in adventure sports and natured oriented pursuits like trekking, skiing, rafting, etc. To get a glimpse of the exotic flora and fauna of India, visit the several nature parks or wildlife sanctuaries, which house an exotic variety of flora and fauna. 2. Go Slow – Patience Is The Key! Too many visitors to India make the mistake of trying to discover and explore everything in one go. The geographical enormity of India renders such a task not just impossible but rather foolish. Once you are in India, slow down and absorb the surroundings around you, while appreciating the uniqueness brought by every experience. Rather than stressing yourself over completing the things-to-do list, focus on doing one thing or visiting one place and exploring it in detail. Not only will this make your trip pleasant, but also give you a glimpse of the local culture and customs. If you want to understand India, this is the way to go about it. If you are complaining about the traffic in your country, then it is nothing less than the traffic in India which makes India travel no less than a hectic journey. So, always keep the assistance of Google Maps, so that you can easily find out short cuts and lanes for a quick escape. Also, drivers tend to ask for more money if they see that you are a tourist. It is better if you do thorough research on the cab rates and bus rates to save some money. 3. Look For Solitude Amid Unceasing Chaos! Any useful guide for first-time visitors to India will tell you that despite being a land inhabited by billions, India still offers plentiful avenues for escaping the maddening crowd and ensuing chaos. This is not to say that you should avoid soaking in the cultural and social atmosphere. However, there will come a point where you would seek moments of tranquility and solitude. Fortunately, India has plenty of hill stations, quiet retreats, isolated beaches, serene backwaters, etc. It’s always a good idea to head to these places when the crowds and the hassle seem overbearing. Doing this will help you relax and rejuvenate before continuing with the rest of your journey. If you are a nature lover, then it is best to start from the north. There are mainly five travel holidays destinations you should be starting on. Now the call is completely yours: Leh-Ladakh Shimla-Manali Dehradun-Mussoorie Nainital-Ranikhet Jammu-Kashmir 4. Prioritize Your Health: Any ultimate guide for the first timer to India will mention the words “health, well-being, safety, etc.” In India, you can never be too cautious regarding your health. Never make the mistake of drinking tap water or consuming food which has been lying around for a long time. Indian food is very spicy. So, be careful in the matter of food choices. Do not drink water from random shops. Instead, keep a bottle of mineral water with you all the time. While street-side snacks are utterly tempting, it’s always advised to assess the cleanliness around you before gorging on them. One of the best ways of determining whether the food is safe is to watch whether it’s being consumed by locals. If yes, then go ahead! Also, do not miss the famous food places to visit in India. You will see that diversity is not only in cultures but in food too. However, each food item is different in taste and in health. Another way of ensuring your health is always carrying an anti-bacterial gel or anti-bacterial wipes. This is because most Indians eat with their fingers, and if you want to emulate them, these are the best tools for the last minute clean-up. 5. Be Calm At All Times: One of the most useful things to know for the first timers to India is maintaining your cool at all times. Certain parts of India, and especially the North, may seem brash, undisciplined and rude, with all sorts of touts out to get your money for more travel holidays. However, it’s important to be extremely alert while politely refusing any unwanted advances or moves made upon you. One of the easiest ways of avoiding being conned is refusing any deal that sounds too good to be true. Conclusion: At the same time, when the situation demands, learn to be assertive without sounding angry. This is the best way of displaying your confidence without appearing to be weak. There are numerous places to visit in India, and you cannot finish it in one month. Therefore, if you are at all planning for an India tour, make sure that your getaway last for more than a month, maybe two. The vast country awaits to mesmerize you with its meandering rivers and lofty mountains and timeless monuments and spiritual hubs of different religions. You Can’t MISS These Best Songs for Instagram Travel Reels (Real People, Real Choice)

BY  Sibashree Sep 9, 2024

Every time I come home from a trip, I go through the same ritual.  I sit down with a folder of shaky, gorgeous, half-blurry clips and try to turn them into something worth watching.   And every single time, the song is what decides whether the reel works.  A reel without the right track is like a postcard with no message on the back.  You can admire it for a second, but you won't remember it.  I am not going to hand you a generic "trending sounds this week" list, because those go stale in about 72 hours.   Instead, this is the mix I actually reach for: road-trip anthems, slow-burn ballads, and a couple of unexpected picks.  Also, the parts nobody tells you about: which of these songs your business account can't legally touch, and what is actually driving the Reels algorithm in 2026!  So, your music choice does more than just sound nice.  The Songs I Keep Coming Back To  Here's the shortlist, organized by the kind of footage each one saves.  # Song Artist Mood Best For 1 "Wave" Lyxe Bright, driving, sun-through-the-windshield Road trip montages 2 "On My Way" Carswell & Hope Warm, folky, a little wistful Couple travel videos 3 "Unto Myself" Serene Fiend Edgy, heavier guitar Adventure sports reels 4 "Here I Go Again" Whitesnake Classic rock, anthemic Solo travel, big open-road shots 5 "Leaving on a Jet Plane" John Denver Bittersweet, tender Long-haul or international trips 6 "Galway Girl" Ed Sheeran Playful, folk-pop Romantic city reels, Ireland/Europe 7 "Enjoy the Show" The Sluts High-energy, psychedelic edge City nightlife reels 8 "About Damn Time" Lizzo Confident, funky Solo girls' trip reels 9 "Watermelon Sugar" Harry Styles Sunny, youthful Beach holidays, couple videos 10 "Saturday Sun" Vance Joy Light, upbeat Weekend getaways, coastal trips 11 "Perfect" Ed Sheeran Soft, romantic Couple holiday reels  A quick note before I go through these one by one.  I am describing the feel of each track rather than quoting any lines from them.   Song lyrics are copyrighted works, and reproducing even a few lines, mine or anyone else's, isn't something I can do here.  No matter how well they fit the vibe.   If a lyric is doing the emotional heavy lifting for you, that's actually a decent sign the song deserves its own dedicated audio-sync edit rather than a paraphrase. When we travel, the gust of the wind, the murmuring of the leaves, or the chirping of the birds are probably the best music you can listen to. However, as you return, those moments become memories and the photographs and videos we click turn into stories we want to tell the world.  What’s better than a piece of music to enhance these stories? It can be Whitesnake’s rock anthem, “Here I Go Again,” Denver’s “Leaving on a Jet Plane,” or the feel-good “On My Way” by Carswell & Hope. 1. "Wave" by Lyxe https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5DfTWt8_Ec0 Perfect For: Roadtrip reels Perfect for: road trip reels  This one had a real moment when Lyxe reworked it in 2023.   It's got that upbeat, "everything's about to happen" tempo that makes tree-lined highways and sunlight-through-branches shots feel cinematic instead of just pretty.   If your footage has any kind of forward motion- car, bike, train- this is my first pick.  2. “On My Way" by Carswell & Hope https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N0qkhXoiGCQ Perfect for: couple travel videos  I think of this as sitting somewhere between a country ballad and something more urban.  The guitar work does a lot of the emotional lifting.   Thematically, it is about someone finally listening to the pull of home, and that "coming back to what matters" feeling makes it a strong match for footage of two people traveling together.  It is especially for the quieter in-between moments rather than the highlight-reel ones.  3. “Unto Myself” by Serene Fiend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kogF2cchLCk Perfect for: adventure sports reels  This is the one for the metalheads in the group.   If you are basing jumps, climbing, or anything with real physical risk, the edgier instrumentation gives the footage a harder edge than the usual pop-song backing track. 4. Whitesnake’s “Here I Go Again” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WyF8RHM1OCg Perfect for: road trips, solo adventure, solo travel  Classic rock, full-throated, and honestly a little bit of a pep talk disguised as a song.  It is built around finding the courage to keep moving.   It works especially well for solo travelers walking city streets alone, where the music needs to carry some of the emotional weight the footage alone can't.  5. Denver’s “Leaving on a Jet Plane” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SneCkM0bJq0 Perfect for: long-haul or international trips  For me, this is the most quietly romantic track on the list.  It is structured as a conversation between two people.  One of them is leaving, both of them uncertain about the return but hoping anyway.   That signature Denver melancholy makes it timeless, and it fits any reel about leaving people behind to go somewhere far. Â  6. “Galway Girl” By Ed Sheeran https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87gWaABqGYs Perfect for: romantic travel reels, especially Ireland or Europe  If you are anywhere in Ireland or the wider European city circuit, this is the obvious romantic pick.  It is playful, a little cheeky, built for footage of wandering cobblestone streets with someone you like.  7. "Enjoy The Show" by The Sluts https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RnurG4O5og4 Perfect for: city nightlife reels  Vegas, Barcelona, wherever your nightlife footage is from,  this track has a laid-back, slightly psychedelic undercurrent beneath a high-energy surface.  Also, the vocals carry enough power to hold up against loud, chaotic clips 8. "About Damn Time" by Lizzo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IXXxciRUMzE Perfect for: solo girls' trip reels  This is the reset-button song.  It is confident, funky, built around the idea that everything's about to click into place. It is good for trip footage that doubles as a "getting my life back together" narrative.  9. "Watermelon Sugar" by Harry Styles https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E07s5ZYygMg Perfect for: beach holidays, couple travel videos  Nothing beats this for coastal summer footage.  It has got a youthful, slightly flirtatious energy that fits golden-hour beach clips almost too perfectly.  10. “Saturday Sun" by Vance Joy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uKqMNQkjHmI Perfect for: weekend trips, coastal getaways  It is an instantly likeable number.  It has an upbeat tempo built around the excitement of meeting someone new.   Also, it is a strong fit for short weekend-escape edits where you want energy without heaviness.  11. “Perfect" by Ed Sheeran https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Vv-BfVoq4g Perfect for: couple holiday reels  Still one of the most recognizable romantic tracks around, this soft melody makes slow-motion, hand-in-hand walking shots hit harder than they would in silence.  Which of These Can You Actually Post? (2026 Instagram Music Rules) Here's the part most "best songs for reels" lists skip entirely, and it matters more than the song choice itself.  What your account is allowed to post is not the same as what shows up in Instagram's music picker.  Instagram's licensing deals with labels and publishers cover personal and creator, non-commercial use.  They don't extend to business accounts, and they don't extend to commercial promotion, even from a personal account, once the content is promoting a product or service.  Account Type What You Can Legally Use What Happens if You Don't Personal / Creator Full licensed music library, including most of the songs above Generally safe for non-commercial posts Business Meta Sound Collection (royalty-free) only Audio muted, content removed, or repeat-violation account restrictions Any account posting sponsored or commercial content Requires a proper sync/commercial license regardless of account type Copyright law looks at how the content is used, not which account posted it  A Few Things Worth Knowing Before You Pick A Track For A Client Or A Brand Page  There is no length-based safe harbor. A "just 10 seconds" or "just a short clip" of a copyrighted song does not exempt you from licensing requirements.  Access inside Instagram's library is not the same as clearance for commercial use.   For example, a well-known case involved a European football club that posted celebration footage using a track from Instagram's own library on its business account.  The post hit seven million views before music publishers argued the club still needed separate synchronization rights for commercial use.  Instagram's audio detection has gotten more aggressive.  Reels are getting muted or pulled for using copyrighted tracks on business accounts.   They reused audio carried over from other platforms, and even background music picked up at low volume.  Royalty-free tracks, original audio, or music you have licensed directly are the only genuinely safe options for brand or business accounts.  If you are a personal creator posting the songs on my list for fun.  You are almost certainly fine.   If you are managing a destination's, hotel's, or tour operator's Instagram, none of them are safe to use as-is.  You would need the Meta Sound Collection or a properly licensed alternative.  How Much Does Music Actually Affect Reach? (2026 Algorithm, Explained Properly)  This is the other thing the "trending audio" advice usually gets backwards.   Instagram head Adam Mosseri has been unusually public about what actually moves a reel through the algorithm, and it isn't just "use a popular song."  Instagram runs separate ranking systems for Feed, Reels, Stories, and Explore.  It is a strategy that works for one doesn't automatically work for another. For Reels specifically, the confirmed priority order looks like this:  Rank Signal Why it matters for your reel 1 Sends per reach (DM shares) Mosseri has said this carries roughly 3–5x more ranking weight than likes.  It is the strongest signal for reaching people who don't already follow you. 2 Watch-time-to-length ratio It is not raw seconds watched, but what percentage of your reel people finish.  A short reel with high completion beats a long one people scroll past. 3 Replay rate Rewatches signal strong interest and reward loopable edits 4 Likes/comments Still counted, but weighted less than they were a couple of years ago  What that means practically for song choice: the track is not a decoration.  It is doing ranking work.   A song with a strong emotional hook that makes someone stop and send it to a friend will outperform a "trending" track that doesn't fit your footage.  Instagram is optimizing for genuine engagement signals over raw popularity.  Mistakes I See Constantly (and Have Made Myself)  Mistake Why It Happens The Fix Picking a song for its trend score, not its fit A track blowing up on the Reels tab doesn't mean it matches your footage's pace or mood Choose based on how the song feels against your clips first, popularity second. Mismatching energy Calm drone footage paired with a high-BPM drop just feels off Match the tempo of the track to the motion in your shot. Cutting randomly instead of cutting to the beat Edits feel thrown together instead of professional.  This is the single biggest tell. Line your hard cuts up with the beat, even roughly. Letting the drop overpower the visuals The loudest musical moment lands on your least interesting shot. Re-order your clips so your strongest visual hits the drop. Reusing the same viral sound indefinitely Trend-riding works short-term, but reused audio, especially audio carried over from other platforms,  gets flagged. Rotate sounds regularly and treat trending audio as short-lived.  What My Friends Actually Play on Their Trips  I asked around instead of just going with my own taste, since music is such a personal call. Paraphrasing what they told me (again, no lyric quoting here):  Harsha reaches for Coldplay's "Paradise.” She says its opening seconds work for almost anything, from a mountain reveal to a sunset-chasing montage.  Saswati picks Denver's "Country Roads," because for her it captures the idea that travel is really about finding a version of home.  Nikita goes with The Chainsmokers' "Paris," which she says pulls up the exact emotional memory of a specific trip with people she loves.  Deepanwita is a Taylor Swift loyalist, "22" specifically, for the classic girls'-road-trip, feeling-young-again energy, even though, as she puts it, none of them are 22 anymore.  Piyasa swears by Alphaville's "Forever Young" for its message about wanting to keep exploring rather than settle down.  Pijus picks Avicii's "The Nights" for its upbeat tempo and nostalgic undertone. It is his go-to for anything adventure-themed.  The Real Takeaway  The best travel reels in 2026 aren't the most polished ones. They are the ones that feel real enough that someone stops scrolling and sends it to a friend.   The right song does three things at once.  It sets the pace of your edit, and it carries the emotional beat your footage can't carry alone.  Also, if you get the licensing side right, it actually keeps the reel up and eligible for real distribution instead of getting muted a week later.  Pick the song that fits your footage first. Check whether your account type can legally use it second. Cut to the beat third. In that order, not reversed. Also Read: Did You Know You can Hear Banshee’s Wail at the Killarney National Park! OMG! Planning A Multi-Wonder Itinerary: Timing And Logistics Tips  India's wonders are spread across the length and breadth of the country. So, grouping them by region makes any trip far more manageable.   The Northern Circuit   The northern circuit links Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur.  It is home to India Gate, Red Fort, the Taj Mahal, Qutub Minar, and Amer Fort.  You can comfortably cover all five in a single week using the well-connected Delhi-Agra-Jaipur train and expressway network.   Also, Amritsar's Golden Temple sits slightly further north but pairs well with a short flight or overnight train from Delhi.  Central and Western India  Central and western India group Sanchi Stupa, Khajuraho, and Ajanta-Ellora, though the distances between them are longer.   Flying into Indore or Bhopal for Sanchi and Khajuraho, then continuing to Aurangabad for the caves, saves a significant amount of road time compared to driving the entire stretch.  Southern And Eastern India  The southern and eastern wonders, Charminar, Konark Sun Temple, Gomateshwara, and Hampi, are best for separate short trips.  Also, you cannot squeeze them into the same itinerary as the northern sites due to the distance.  Things To Keep In Mind For Exploring The Famous Wonders Of India  Weather also shapes the best time to visit.   October through March offers the most comfortable temperatures across most of these locations, particularly Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, where summer heat can make sightseeing uncomfortable by mid-morning.   Coastal Konark benefits from the cooler months too, since humidity climbs sharply after March.  Budget travelers should note that most of these sites charge separate entry fees for domestic and foreign visitors.  Also, camera fees are separate from the entry ticket at places like Khajuraho and Ajanta-Ellora.   Booking the Taj Mahal's sunrise slot online in advance is worth doing, since it sells out during the October-to-February peak season, and standing in the walk-up line can eat an hour or more of your morning.  Finally, hiring a local guide at Ajanta-Ellora and Hampi is particularly worthwhile, since the mythological and historical context behind the carvings is not always evident from signage alone.
