When introducing Mawryngkhang trek, I would like to highlight that it is one of the most beautiful trek destinations in Meghalaya. A bit difficult, it is one of the coolest places to be if you love nature. With the pace you set, you can experience some of the most beautiful flora and fauna.   Additionally, you will see how monsoons as a season can make a place look so much more beautiful. Meghalaya with its lush green forests, waterfalls, steep slopes, and bamboo bridges welcomes you with all its glory in this trek.   I would even go on to say that it is one of the best places to visit in February for a trek. The weather is dry along with a bit of a mix with various wildlife and trees.   Things You Need to Know to Do the Mawryngkhang Trek!   Known as the Bamboo Trek, when you are preparing for the Mawryngkhang Trek, you must be prepared. Moderately difficult, this trek will need you to be at your best, both physically and mentally. There are some essential gears which you must carry so that you can have a good trek.  Simultaneously, you also need to be aware of the inclination of the slopes, the sheer drops, the height and also the number of bamboo bridges on the trail. Overall, read the blog to follow the significant tips which will make your travel to Mawryngkhang trek location much easier.   I wouldn’t say it is one of the best places to travel with kids, especially if you are trekking. What is more important is you have to do good research before you plan on traveling there.   Best Time to Visit   If you ask me, the best season to visit Meghalaya if your purpose is to trek is during the dry season. From October to April, you can go on a trek and enjoy yourself while taking a walk across the trails.   The Mawryngkhang trek is a bit difficult hence, it is important for you to be careful and do not risk as the trail can be slippery. The round trip is about 3.54 kilometers hence, for an experienced trekker, it might take 3 to 5 hours.   It also depends on your fitness level and your pace. With the difficulty level as moderately difficult, you should do proper research, fitness evaluation and then go ahead with the trek.   Essential Gear to Take   There are important things to carry with you, especially when you are going on a trek. The trail of the Mawryngkhang Trek can be a bit tricky and slippery hence, you need these essential gears to carry so that you do not face any issues while enjoying the trek.   Going to one of the exotic places to travel, you should know the significant things you must carry on this trip.   Comfortable clothing   It is important to wear comfortable clothing especially when you are trekking. Additionally, apply sunscreen constantly and before you start your trek which will protect you from getting sunburned.   Sturdy shoes   It is quite important to wear sturdy shoes especially when it comes to having a good grip. When trekking, you also need good ankle support, henceforth, you do not get sprains. It is therefore significant for you to wear sturdy shoes that will support your feet while crossing bamboo bridges and walking on uneven terrains.   Rain gear   Meghalaya is well known for its changing weather, especially the way rain comes. It is therefore imminent a step for you to carry your rain gear, be it a poncho or a raincoat. Overall, unpredictable weather can be a concern for your trek so focus on your overall plans so that you do not face any concern.   Snacks   Carry some granola bars, nuts or fruits that will give you energy and are easy to carry. When you are on a trek, you should have bites of energy boosting food items or drinks that will establish your energy throughout the duration of your trek.   Safety Precautions You Need to Trek   There are some precautions which you need to take when traveling to Meghalaya, especially when you go to Mawryngkhang Trek. Follow the precautions that I am mentioning below and do implement them so that you resolve any issues.   Respecting Nature   Meghalaya is known for its nature and respecting nature is one of the most important rules here. When you have decided to go on a vacation, trekking to different places, visiting waterfalls and other elements, do respect nature.   You must respect the environment there and follow the available trail. Try not to walk all over the flowers, plants, roots and trees while going off road. It damages the plants along with increasing the risks of hampering many unique plants.    Also, please do not litter on the forest floor! Trails are often filled with plastic packets and wrappers of food, drinks, and other used things. Please avoid doing that because it disrespects nature.   Follow Bridging Rules   One of the most important elements that you will find mostly everywhere in Meghalaya when outdoors is the bamboo bridges. These bridges are mostly manually designed hence, the capacity of the bridge is limited.   It is therefore advised that only one person crosses a bridge at a time. Please remember this and accordingly cross one at a time so that the next person can cross it relaxedly.   Hire Local Guides   You can hire a local guide because it is not just about you experiencing something adventurous but also about enhancing the overall experience. The terrain might not be completely understandable to you because you are visiting it for the first time.   This is where a local guide will help you because they know the landscape better than you. Additionally, the local guide also helps you if there is an emergency such as a fall, cut and gashes to the skin, sprained ankle and others.   Tips to Trek the Mawryngkhang Trek   These are significant tips that will help you plan your trek to Mawryngkhang. I am sharing with you these tips because I felt, if I knew these before, it would have been for me. Let's make you more prepared to deal with certain issues that might make it a little difficult for you.   No Accommodation   This is one of the most important things to know especially because it will dictate your overall plan to visit Meghalaya. There are no accommodation or lodge facilities available in Wahkhen, which is the nearest location to Mawryngkhang Trek.    It is better if you book your stay somewhere else. Accordingly arrange your own transport and visit the place. Then you can go ahead and do the trek which once completed, arrange your own transport to pick you up to return.   Be Prepared for Heights   The trek is a bit difficult due to its height as you will have to cross steep climbs while on the trek. There are several narrow bridges which you need to cross while on this trek hence, if you are fearful of heights, you need to reconsider the trek. It is better to avoid the trek if you have serious issues of height.   Start Early   If you are someone who loves tranquility, this is the place for you. However, you need to start early when going on Mawryngkhang Trek so that you are not forced to speed up if there is a line behind you. Considering the place is quite popular for trekking, there is a bit of a rush.   It is better if you go early and enjoy your trek, taking time and relaxing while trekking. Instead, if you constantly fret about how there are people behind you and the narrow climbs and bridges ensure that you must make a single file while trekking.   Enjoy the Views   A stunning view awaits you on your trek to Mawryngkhang Trek because the trails are filled with unique flora and fauna. You experience beauty in all its glory where there is no human influence. Instead, it is all just the lush green beauty of nature.   Check out the stunning valleys, lakes and waterfalls which you see while on the Mawryngkhang Trek. Do you know where the name of the Zion National Park came from? The name has come from the Bible, as the Old Testament calls the City of Jerusalem Zion.  This national park has the most diverse landscape, with plateaus, forests, and deserts. Further, it is home to over 800 plant species and 290 bird varieties.  “A visit to a river, a canyon rim, and a pine forest will give you a chance to see plenty of different birds. Birds are very active at dawn and dusk. They sing more at these times, making them easier to locate than midday. Some hiking trails can be completed within one hour, and some will take an entire day. Further, these trails will take you through lush valleys and meadows and make you visit rugged mountains and deserts.  So, let’s explore the trails. 1. Also, it is a kid and family-friendly hiking trail with a beautiful view of the lower Zion Canyon.  You will further enjoy the view of the Towers of the Virgin and the town of Springdale from this trail.  Moreover, this trail is a great path to learn about the desert plantation in the park.  2. Lower Emerald Pool Trail  Difficulty Level: Easy Distance: 1.2 Miles Trekking Time: 1 Hour Pet-Friendly: No Trailhead: Zion Lodge The Lower Emerald Pool Trail is one of the easiest trails in the park, and you can explore the route with your family thanks to the gentle terrain.  Further, walking through the woods of pinyon and juniper is comfortable for children. Moreover, the hike ends with a refreshing view of the Lower Emerald Pool and waterfalls. These waterfalls are ephemeral.  However, if you want to explore more challenging trails, you can try the connecting Upper Emerald Pool and Kayenta trails.  3. Observation Point Difficulty Level: Difficult Distance: 8 Mile Trekking Time: 7 Hours Pet-Friendly: No Trailhead: Weeping Rock The Observation Point trek through the East Rim Trail stands out because it offers the best view of the nearby attractions. Further, you will especially love the view of Zion Canyon’s lower end.  However, this trekking route comes with 2200 feet of steep elevation. So, ensure that you have the right physical endurance and proper hydration.  4. Pa’Rus Trail Difficulty Level: Easy Distance: 3.5 Miles Trekking Time: 1 Hour Pet-Friendly: Yes Trailhead: Visitor Center If you want to watch the best sunset in Zion National Park and capture beautiful landscape views, Pa’Rus Trail is the best hiking route for you. Further, it is the only national park trail allowing dogs and pets.  It is an easy trek. You can explore it with your kids and family. You will begin the trek listening to the serene sounds of the Virgin River. Then, as you advance, you will get the best view of the Watchman.  Backpacking Hikes In Zion National Park Overnight hiking or backpacking trips are very popular in Zion National Park. Despite being strenuous hikes, these trails offer the most scenic views.  If you are willing to explore any of the following backpacking trails, you must have proper food, water, and supplement arrangements.  La Verkin Creek Trail Trail Distance: 14.4 Miles Trail Head: Lee Pass Difficulty Level: Challenging The La Verking Creek Trail takes you to the Kalob Arch. It is one of the biggest free-standing arches in the world.  As you start the trek from Lee Pass, you will walk through open canyons, and the route along Timber Creek will offer you the best cliff views.  If you want to extend your hiking trip further, you can continue your walk to the Bear Trap Canyon or the Willis Canyon. Summer and fall are the best seasons for backpacking trips to the La Verkin Creek Trail.  The Narrows View this post on Instagram A post shared by Zion National Park (@zionnps) Trail Distance: 16 Miles Hike Start: The Temple of Sinawava Difficulty Level: Easy to Moderate (Based on the River Volume) Despite having an easy-to-moderate difficulty level, The Narrows is one of the most challenging hikes in this national park.  The meandering trekking route will take you through various canyons. However, you must first walk through the Virgin River as there is no alternative loop.  Here, you must note that the water level in the Virgin River keeps fluctuating. Based on the amount of rainfall and snowfall, the varying water levels of the Virgin River will pose challenges. So, check with the park authority about the “present water current level” and announcements.  West Rim Trail Trail Distance: 14.2 Miles  Trail Head: Lava Point  Difficulty Level: Strenuous  The West Rim Trail is one of the most challenging treks in Zion National Park. The elevation change here is close to 3500 feet, and you must make a steep ascent toward the Wildcat Canyon rims. Then, you will make a descent.  In addition, the West Rim Trail offers the best views of the Phantom Valley. If you are in for a backpacking trip to the West Rim Trail, late spring, summer, and fall will be the best seasons.  Camping In Zion National Park, Utah Though 2023 saw a dip in visitors to Zion National Park, it is still one of the most visited parks in the USA. In 2023, the park had less than 4.65 million visitors compared to 4.69 million visitors in 2022.  The red rock formations and canyons carved by water are some of the biggest attractions in this US national park, and camping is surely the best way to get to know the park better.  Zion National Park has three campgrounds, but the South Campground is closed for a long-term rehabilitation project. So, here I will discuss the Watchman Campground and Lava Point Campground.  Watchman Campground https://www.instagram.com/p/C84eLoOtJP8/ This campground is very close to the Zion Canyon Visitor Center, and if you are entering the park from the  South Entrance in Springdale, you will have to go only ¼ miles to find this campground.  Each campsite in the campground has a picnic table, a place for a tent or RV, and fire ring access. You can book six months before your trip to secure a preferred spot.  Lava Point Campground It is a seasonal campground, operating only from May to September. Further, located at a 7890-foot height, this campground is closest to Kolob Terrace Road.  Also, if you enter the park from its southern entrance, you must drive for one hour and 20 minutes to reach this campground.  However, with 6 primitive camping sites, Lava Point Campground does not have most of the amenities of the Watchman Campground. Therefore, you will only get the following facilities here. Pit toilets Trash cans Seasonal trash collection Staff on site on a seasonal basis Moreover, you will have to pay a fee of $25 to reserve a spot in this campground. You see it in a row of shophouses painted like a colour wheel, or in the quiet precision of a new building that still nods to its neighbours.  Even your morning coffee might come in a café where the light, the tiles, and the chairs feel as considered as the beans. If you travel for good spaces, the city greets you at every corner. Step out, and the riverfront walkway leads you past bars and small galleries.  Step back in, and the bar is waiting. The cocktails reflect the building’s trading history and wilder nights. 2. Neighbourhoods That Keep You Walking Kampong Glam instantly improves your mood. Narrow roads are dotted with murals. Patterned bolts are spilled onto the pavement by fabric retailers. The Sultan Mosque's gold dome shines above all. While the district's history is preserved, it coexists peacefully with modest design firms and modern cafés. Tiong Bahru reduces the tempo. It is an Art Deco neighbourhood. The low-rise buildings and curved balconies constructed in the 1930s mirror history.  Here, you will pass bakeries with lines outside. The bookstores have a subtle yet irresistible coffee and paper scent, and galleries hidden in ground-floor apartments. With the serene ambience, you get to indulge in the subtleties. Do you crave both tradition and innovation? It happens to coexist on Chinatown's block. Temples and markets continue the traditional rhythms. But behind certain facades are galleries and minimalist tea houses experimenting with contemporary Chinese patterns. 3. Meeting The People Who Make It Happen Weekend markets are the easiest way to meet makers. These creative geniuses are the potters, jewellers, and textile artists.  Their stalls are set up and stand ready to talk. You pick up a cup, and the potter tells you about the clay. You try on a necklace and hear where the stone was found.  These exchanges turn an object into a story. Workshops take you one step further. You might paint batik in a studio where the air smells faintly of wax, or shape a lump of clay into a bowl under the eye of someone who’s done it a thousand times.  You leave with something you made and a memory that sticks. 5. Eating And Drinking In Style Singapore's cafés are known not only for their kopi but also for their kopi. They're famed on how to set a scene. Do you love Terrazzo counters? Are you fascinated with cane chairs and patterned tiles? It's all here and more. You'd love to linger in these spaces even after emptying the cup. Rooftop bars add to the skyline, but also think about the atmosphere. Lighting shifts as the evening goes on, music feels tuned to the room, and some bring in art or live performances. They’re places to stay a while, not just stop in. 6. Timing Your Visit The design hums peacefully in the background all year long. Yet certain weeks increase the volume.
