Is Monterrey Mexico Safe For A Holiday? Decoding Your Travel Safety For A Trip To Mexico

BY Sibashree Apr 10, 2025

The Estadio BBVA Stadium in Monterrey, Mexico, is gearing up for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Furthermore, Monterrey is about to get new high-end hotels such as MS Milenium, Live Aqua, and Thompson.  So, Monterrey will be a key element if Mexico wants to seize the opportunity of a sports tourism boom in the global landscape.  Furthermore, Monterrey is the capital of the state of Nuevo León, which has been experiencing a massive tourism boost in the last few years.  In 2024, the number of tourists to Monterrey shot up to 15 million, which was 250% more than the 4.3 million tourist visits in 2021. “We have worked tirelessly for the past three years to position Nuevo León in the world through strategic actions and the implementation of key projects,” Martínez said at a press conference on Tuesday. “Our vision has been clear: to turn the state of Nuevo León into a benchmark for national and international tourism.” Mari Carmen Martínez Villarreal, Tourism Minister, Nuevo León However, despite the best efforts and the changing scenarios, the question, “Is Monterrey Mexico safe?” still persists.  In this Tour and Travel blog, we will discuss whether it is safe to travel to Monterrey, Mexico, and how safe Monterrey is for living.  How Safe Is Monterrey, Mexico For Traveling?  Let’s begin the discussion of Monterrey as a travel destination with the Mexico Travel Advisory issued by the Bureau of Consular Affairs, the U.S. Department of State, on September 6, 2024.  The advisory asks U.S. government employees and U.S. travelers in Mexico to travel between Nuevo Laredo and Monterrey only during daylight.  Furthermore, U.S. government employees must travel between Nuevo Laredo and Monterrey with prior authorization.  Also, recent research on " Is Monterrey Mexico Safe” has shown that the crimes in Monterrey touch the daily lives of the residents, so they can impact travelers.  Further, the war against drugs that started in the city in 2006 has caused a rise in aggression and criminal activities such as robberies and homicides.  We must not forget that in September 2023, twelve mutilated corpses were found1 in Monterrey as a result of a drug cartel conflict.  Overall, during the span from 1994 to 2023, there has been a significant rise in the number of deaths due to criminal activities in Monterrey. Again, as of February 2024, domestic violence was the most common crime in Monterrey. Thievery and drug dealing are two other common crimes in Monterrey.  Is Monterrey, Mexico Safe For Tourists? Understanding The Common Crimes In Monterrey Here are the most common types of crimes in Monterrey, Mexico.  Domestic Violence Theft Drug Dealing Property Crimes Robbery and Assault Motorcycle Theft Cartel Activity Traffic Violations and Accidents Among all these crimes, the high crime rate of 62.11 for assault and armed robbery can be a serious concern for tourists. Thus, you can easily come and go based on your itinerary.   North Vancouver If you love the outdoors, this place is perfect for you. This neighborhood is closer to forests and the outdoors, as you can easily go skiing or hiking from here. With a wide range of outdoor activities, you will enjoy the most in this area. Keep these crucial hiking tips in mind to stay safe while hiking.   Kitsilano  The neighborhood is quite family-friendly, so you can easily book rooms here. The place is also close to the beaches, so with the laid-back atmosphere, you can relax and enjoy your trip.   Awareness of the Cultural Changes   Considering it is a different place. Vancouver is an amalgamation of several cultures. So, be aware of its multicultural identity and its integration of progressive values, which makes it a great destination to visit. Learn about these tips here:   Language The primary language is English. However, you may hear several other languages because the city has a diverse population. You must be respectful to everyone and avoid insulting them, whether through words, actions, or gestures.   Etiquette Personal space and politeness are normal etiquette everywhere, not just in Vancouver. As an individual, you must be thankful for little gestures or help from strangers. So, holding the door or saying “thank you” will go a long way toward making your stay safe and memorable.    Scams Scams are common everywhere, whether in Vancouver or elsewhere. You must be conscious of your surroundings, and beware of unsolicited offers, especialdon't crowds. Also, don’t buy tickets or accept services from an untrustworthy source.   Dress Code The city is known for its unpredictable weather, so layering is key. You will see a lot of locals doing the same. Hence, casual attire is quite acceptable. But wear clothing you are comfortable in, and don't force yourself into something uncomfortable.   Vancouver has a municipal bylaw that prohibits smoking within 6 meters of a window or doorway. Do not prefer smoking cigarettes or look down upon those who do. You must not smoke in public parks because locals might raise their voices against it.   Safely Navigating the City   When you visit Vancouver, let me share some easy ways to get around safely. Explore the city safely by following these guidelines. You can also consider these smart travel solutions to help you enjoy your trip!   Try to travel mostly by public transport because it is the safest. However, try to avoid empty stations at night. TransLink operates SeaBuses, SkyTrains, and buses, which make it easy to get around.   Did you know Vancouver is a bike-friendly city? You can easily ride a bike when visiting Vancouver. Especially with dedicated bike lanes. Mobi is an online app that offers bike-sharing services.   During rush hour, Vancouver can be difficult to drive in. Cyclists and pedestrians also share the roads. Hence, if you are driving, you need to be a little careful.   It can be worse when crossing the Lions Gate Bridge or the Second Narrows. Plus, it's worse on weekends. That is when you need to try either the Swartz Bay ferry or Vancouver Metro.    Wrapping Up!   Vancouver as a city is not dangerous; however, you need to be careful and attentive wherever you travel. You may encounter some of the poorest people around town, so there may be a risk of petty theft or crime. And yet, remarkably, it is safer when it comes to violent crimes.   Comment below on what you think about Vancouver, or are you too scared to visit the place? Ultimate Guide to Stress-Free Holiday Travel

BY Sibashree Mar 22, 2025

The holiday season is around the corner, and we’re already planning holidays. If you are heading to your family, going on a holiday, or elsewhere, pre-booking will help you make the journey easier and more enjoyable.  This is the full guide on assisting you with holiday travel, including expert tips and practical advice for preparing for holidays easily.  1. Prepare in Advance for an Easy Journey  The sooner you book, the more likely you will get what you want. When traveling, it is best to go during holidays and reserve rooms and seats in advance.  Don’t leave it late; arrange transportation and accommodation ahead of time. Put together tickets, accommodation, and transport on a list.  Be sure to look at the weather forecast in your destination to be able to pack suitably. You do not want to be caught in a snowstorm or heatwave with the wrong equipment!  2. Intelligent Holiday Travel Budgeting  Holiday travel costs can easily exceed budget, especially during peak holiday seasons. Setting a realistic budget when making holiday plans will prevent overspending.  Budget your expenses under allocations to pay for your airfare, accommodations, travel, restaurants, tour fare, and shopping.  Utilize discounts online, compare prices, and hostels, Airbnb, or travel off-season. No need; forward reservation can also assist. It’s also smart to have some ready money for emergencies such as tips or impulsive shopping.  3. Pack Smart and Light  Intelligent packing will save the day and avoid inconvenience. Pack only the necessities and try to keep it light.  Use multi-functional clothing that you can interchange to reduce the amount of clothing to carry.  Don’t spare any space in your luggage to purchase souvenirs or new clothes during travel. Don’t exceed your baggage allowance limits so that you can have additional charges to pay at the airport.  If your journey is short, a carry-on flight would do. A physician’s kit containing medicine, a first aid kit, and photocopies of the documents that will be needed should be kept handy in case of an accident.  4. Travel with Pets  If a pet is being taken along on a holiday vacation, find out if your hotel is pet-friendly and look up the travel rules in advance.  Some airlines and other carriers also require health certificates for pets, so have your vet issue one.  Be prepared by bringing along the basics, such as pet food, water, a leash, toys, and medication if prescribed.  When traveling, consider your pets' safety and comfort as well. Plan in advance for pet care requirements.  5. Insure Yourself with Travel Insurance  Unexpected events like flight delays, lost luggage, or illness can spoil your tour and leave you stranded. Travel insurance helps by giving you confidence through reimbursement of unexpected costs.  Depending on your holiday, you can decide to buy an upgraded policy that includes trip cancellation, illness, or even flight delay. Make sure to read the cover details before buying so that it will be worth it.  6. Create a Flexible Schedule  Planning never hurts, but flexibility is the key to enhancing your holiday experience. See where you are required to go, check their opening time, and write down their holiday hours.  Adopt a flexible approach in the event your arrangements are foiled or in case you wish to insert unplanned encounters on your path.  The holiday season means large numbers of people, and flexibility will avoid getting agitated if matters fail as expected.  7. Travel Checklist  Ensure you have all the documents and essentials with you before you go out to your destination. A list of essentials is as follows:  • Genuine travel documents (passport, visas, etc.)  • Cash and debit/credit cards (both are recommended)  • Travel insurance information  • Medication prescribed and first aid kits  • Phone chargers for electronic devices and adapters  • Rain or weather-specific footwear and clothing  • Toilet and personal items  8. Protect Your Belongings  It’s always exciting to travel to a new place, but protecting your belongings is equally important.  Stealing and pickpocketing can occur anywhere, particularly in crowded places such as airports or sightseeing sites.  Store your valuables in a money pouch or safe belt, and don’t carry all your money or cards at the same time.  It is also wise to have photocopies or digital copies of important documents (such as your passport, travel insurance, and emergency contacts) just in case they are stolen or lost.  9. Be Frugal with Your Holiday Money  Over-spending on your holiday can cause anxiety once the holiday season is over.  To prevent this, keep track of your spending once in a while on holiday. Have a budget for everyday activities and meals and prioritize substances over goods when spending.  If you tend to mindless shopping, place restrictions before eating out or shopping beforehand. The most memorable aspects of your vacation are likely the experiences, not the trinkets!   10. Foreign Currency Exchange & Financial Planning  If you are traveling abroad, it’s convenient to get used to the foreign currency and exchange rate.  Don’t exchange a large amount of money at the airport, where they offer less favorable exchange rates. Rather, use local ATMs and withdraw your money when you arrive.  It is also advisable to notify your bank of your travel so you won’t have any issues transacting on foreign grounds. Finally, for added convenience, bring a credit card with no foreign transaction fee.   11. Stay Connected for Safety & Convenience  You will require a functional phone or device to communicate with others and utilize in emergencies on the road.  If you are traveling abroad, buy an international SIM card or international data plan so that you can call.  Also, let a trustworthy friend or relative know your travel plans so that they can trace you. This is an extra precaution and convenient in the event that you need help on the road.  Final Words!  Vacation travel, if well planned, can be smooth sailing and hassle-free. Whether you are a frugal traveler, security-aware adventurer, culture-aware traveler, or packing expert and one.  Like any of them, the following is the best advice for hassle-free and successful travel.  Considering all this, you should remember that quality planning will ensure that you’re carefree during travel. Safe and happy holidays!

The History of Chikmagalur Coffee Coffee dates back to the 17th century India. Baba Budan, who also goes by the name of  Hazarat Shah Janab Allah Magatabi, paid a Haj visit. He was mesmerized by the strong beverage he had in Yemen. And the stark aroma with a rich taste took a toll on his tastebuds.  Then he decided to take coffee back to his land. That’s how coffee occurred in India.  undertook a pilgrimage to the holy land of Mecca. During his travels, he encountered the rich, aromatic coffee of Yemen and was so impressed by its refreshing qualities that he decided to bring it back to India. The Challenge  Back then, exporting coffee from the Arabian estates was not allowed. But the legend says that he smuggled around 7 beans. He just hid them in his robes.  When he returned in 1670, he paid a visit to the Chikmagalur's Coffee Hills. At first, he didn’t know it would be a coffee plantation paradise. But the rich soil and the soothing weather worked like magic.  Later the surrounding Sufi hills were named Baba Budan Giri, honoring him.  How Did It Spread? Initial coffee’s acceptance was slow. Hence the cultivation was limited too. But coffees started to spread like wildfire when the English came here.  The Europeans were mesmerized. At first, The Dutch made spreading coffee plantations a personal agenda in India. But the real reign of coffee started under the British. Around 1850, coffee plantations became normal in India.  What’s The Status Now? The Chikmagalur's Coffee is now popular across India and abroad too. However there is a sheer economic importance of this beverage as well. At first, the story began with just 7 coffee beans. But it has now grown into a fully fledged industry.  Today, the coffee plantation is a separate tourist attraction. If you ever go by the scenic Chikmagalur's Coffee estate, check out the coffee plantations with awe!  The Art of Coffee-Making Chikmagalur’s coffee plantations are home to two distinct varieties of coffee: Arabica and Robusta. Arabica is known for its delicate flavor and sweet undertones and is in high demand in international markets.  Arabica plants are smaller and thrive at higher altitudes. They require more manual attention and meticulous care. On the other hand, Robusta is more resilient, growing at lower elevations and having a bold, strong taste. Robusta plants are also easier to maintain. While a casual coffee drinker may be unable to distinguish between the two easily, estate owners carefully select their preferred variety based on climate conditions, maintenance needs, and market demand. Both coffee varieties play a crucial role in Chikmagalur’s coffee industry. The journey from coffee cherry to mug is an intricate, labor-intensive process. The steps of coffee-making are as follows: Step 1: Harvesting Skilled coffee pickers handpick only the ripest coffee cherries, ensuring quality and consistency. Step 2: Processing The harvested cherries undergo various processing methods to remove the outer layers and prepare the beans. Step 3: Drying In this stage, the main aim is to dry the coffee. You can use the sun drying method. Most roasteries use it too.  Once there is no moisture in the beans, you can go to the next stage.  Step 4: Roasting Once done, the coffee beans go through the penultimate stage. Each bean goes through careful roasting. But you need to maintain a precise temperature during the process. It helps to infuse the rich gourmet smell and characteristic taste.  This careful process, perfected over generations, is what makes Chikmagalur’s coffee so exceptional. Explore the Coffee Museum For those eager to explore the world of coffee, a visit to the Coffee Museum, also known as the Coffee Yatra Museum in Chikmagalur, is a must. The Coffee Board of India started this museum as a solo initiative. Now this is the main Indian coffee museum that educates visitors about coffee. BY Sibashree Mar 21, 2025

If you want to come, book slots for any time between Autumn and Spring. The season lasts from September to November and from March to May. That’s the Best Time to Go Trekking in Nepal.  If you're here only for the climate and the peaks, come anytime. Barring the rains. Otherwise, Nepal offers mild temperatures, good food, cozy retreats, and marvelous nature.  The Himalayas  Nepal is your doorway to the Himalayas. Best of all, Nepal suffers the least from sudden snowfalls and rain. So, you can surely enjoy a delectable trekking experience here. Clear skies and soothing weather will help.  Ideals Times for Trekking In Nepal (Autumn And Spring)  Do you know which is the Best Time to Go Trekking in Nepal? Autumn and spring, for sure. What else? Autumn (September To November)  This post-monsoon season is considered the best time for trekking in Nepal. This season brings stable weather that is perfect for trekking. In addition, the skies are clear, offering great views of the snowy peaks. The autumn air is fresh and cool. The post-monsoon landscapes are lush and green, making them phenomenal for trekking. There are no dusk clouds. So visibility is never an issue. You will also get a magnified view of the ranges that stand tall before your eyes. Meanwhile, an exceptional view of the unfrozen alpine lakes waits for you in Nepal.  In essence, you can book the popular Gokyo Lake Trek. The trek is best during the autumn. At this time of year, you get the best views of the clean, vibrant Gokyo Lakes. Likewise, you can also opt for the Annapurna Circuit Trek, this month.  Choose this trek if you want to see the virgin beauty of Gangapurna Lake. At the same time, try the Tilicho Lake Trek! The Ranges In Sight  Other than lakes, the mountain peaks are there to amaze you. If you’ve selected the Langtang Trek, you can enjoy the retreat of the popular Kyanjin Ri. Then, the glamorous Langtang Lirung and other peaks are right in front of you. Trot some kilometers from there, and you can see Naya Kanga. That and many other amazing ranges can be accessed from this vantage point.  Other Peaks  At the same time, you can enjoy breathtaking views of Dhaulagiri, Tukuche, and, most importantly, Annapurna in Nepal. When you climb Poon Hill, you can see all these peaks and much more in one go.  But here’s the catch. To see these beauties, you have to do the Annapurna Base Camp Trek. Along the way, you can also see the exceptional Kala Patthar and Mt. Everest.  If you want to see these peaks and treat yourself, come in autumn. At other times, the weather is overcast. Or snows impair your visibility.  You may also get caught in high winds or heavy rainfall during treks. So, it is best to avoid the unpredictable seasons. For an uninterrupted journey, choose the two seasons I spoke of.  Spring (March To May) During Spring, you can witness Nepal 2.0. This is one of the best times to Go Trekking in Nepal. Most importantly, the weather is fine, and temperatures are moderate. Moreover, clear skies will welcome you. So you can enjoy warm, often breezy mountain views.  Trekkers say it's ideal for trekking to Base Camp, or you can also choose the Manaslu Circuit Trek.  Additional treats  If you trek in spring, here are some of the pleasures you will come across. Don’t miss the rhododendrons. The rest of the flora is also surreal. No wonder, more than 50% of the trekkers choose springtime treks in Nepal. But you can come here and amaze yourself with something else.  Daylight lasts until 8 p.m. during spring. So you can trek for a long. Or view the serenity of the trekking paths for a long time.  But the peak areas may still be frozen. So, don’t forget your woolen and trekking jumpers when you visit Nepal in spring. Over time, temperatures gradually rise. In late May, you may also see rain showers. So, don’t leave without rain gear if you plan to extend your stay.  Reservation Spring is one of Nepal's most popular travel seasons. So, you must book your slots in advance. You may book teahouses while trekking. But you need to book in advance if you want to secure the popular ones along the trail.  The Annapurna Base Camp trek has many teahouses along the way. And almost all of them accept advance online booking. You may also book your teahouse from Kathmandu city offices.  Trekking In Off-Seasons  Off-season treks may be your thing if you want to see another side of Nepal. How’s the weather, and what are the challenges of coming here during these months?  Winter Season (December to February) Winter trekking is serene, but it is also challenging. During this season, high-altitude trails are covered with a thick layer of snow. In addition, temperatures drop significantly during this time.  Therefore, trekking can be challenging for those not accustomed to cold mountain weather. While moderate-altitude treks can be completed smoothly, high-altitude treks require proper planning, support from expert guides, and thoughtful packing. Check the weather regularly before heading out on winter treks. High-altitude passes like Larkya La on the Manaslu Circuit and Thorong La on the Annapurna Circuit Trek can be impassable or difficult to navigate. Heavy snowfall poses significant challenges.  In addition, accommodation may not be available at higher elevations as locals shift to lower elevations because of the bitter cold. Thus, it is essential to check accommodation availability before planning high-altitude treks. Even with significant challenges, the winter landscapes are ethereal. You can witness the beauty of a winter wonderland and feel nature's serenity, as there are fewer people on the trails. In addition, experienced adventurers who are experienced can be thrilled to traverse the snowy winter paths. The views of peaks covered with dense snow in this season are majestic. Because higher altitudes are bitterly cold, pack down jackets, sweaters, gloves, socks, warm caps, sleeping bags, and layers of insulated clothing. If you are well prepared and navigate with caution, then you will have a wonderful time trekking in Nepal this season. Monsoon/ Summer Season (June to August) During the Monsoon/Summer season, trekking regions in Nepal receive heavy rainfall. The trails are slippery and muddy, making navigation challenging. In addition, leeches may be found in the forest areas of the trekking sites, which can make the journey unpleasant.  The weather is unpredictable during monsoon/summer months, with frequent rain showers that may reduce visibility and make traversing difficult. In addition, landslides can block trails and interrupt the trek.  However, monsoon trekking also presents some unique rewards. The views of misty mountains and ethereal cloud formations are fascinating. Rainfall nourishes the landscape, turning it into a green paradise.  Even popular trek trails feel serene, as fewer trekkers venture out at this time. So, it can be a good choice for those who are seeking a tranquil journey in the Himalayas.   There are indeed some good sides to trekking in this season. However, it is important to consider the challenges. You need to be well prepared for the trek and check the weather forecast. Being flexible and cautious helps you ensure a smooth journey during this time. The Final Call The climatic conditions influence the overall trekking experience. When you know the best Time to Go Trekking in Nepal,  you can complete the trek with maximum safety and comfort. In addition, most trekkers want to witness exceptional mountain scenery and connect with nature.  The best times to visit Nepal are autumn and spring. Other seasons can present challenges for tourists. But these two seasons come with decent weather, moderate climate, and visible trekking trails. So, go on and enjoy your trekking experience.
