Costly Travel Insurance Is A Bane For Cancer Patients. But There’s An Alternative

A UK cancer charity has been raising awareness about what it calls the ‘scandal’ of cancer patients being quoted travel insurance premiums so high they cannot afford to go on holiday.

Hampshire-based PLANETS, which supports people with neuroendocrine, pancreatic, liver, colorectal, abdominal, and pancreatic cancer, has accused travel insurance providers of applying a ‘one-size-fits-all’ policy to cancer patients which often penalizes people even when they are in remission and have been in good health for a number of years.

As well as pointing out that many insurers simply refuse to cover anyone with a history of cancer, making their search for cover more difficult, PLANETS also highlights some of the exorbitant prices cancer patients are sometimes quoted – as if to purposefully put them off.

There Are Alternatives For Cancer Patients

It points to two cases it came across of patients it worked with, both of whom had neuroendocrine tumors. One was quoted for a two-week trip to Canada requiring £7,000. The other was told to enjoy a week in Spain, it would cost £1,000 for them.

PLANETS co-founder Jo Green also has neuroendocrine cancer. The condition is incurable, but with treatment can be managed successfully for many years. She has been living with it for 11 years, has no symptoms, and is in good health. But she too faces obstructive practices whenever she tries to get insurance to go abroad.

The reason why PLANETS has taken up the cause of travel insurance for cancer patients is that, as Jo puts it, going on holiday is an “essential” coping mechanism for many people living with the realities of a long-term medical condition.

“You’ve already been dealt a pretty bad card if you’ve had cancer,” she says. “It is a shame insurance companies can’t be more helpful and realistic in order to allow patients to seek respite through holidays which are important to health and wellbeing.”

Her thoughts are echoed by her fellow co-founder Neil Pearce, a specialist in pancreas, liver, and neuroendocrine tumor surgery.

“For many people, the respite and morale boost a holiday away with family or friends brings is invaluable to their life, yet we are in the perverse situation where very little effort [by travel insurers] is even put in to establish the condition a person is in.”

Fair Prices And Bespoke Policies

After cancer travel insurance reviews, most mainstream travel insurance providers simply aren’t set up to deal with the nuances of people’s health on a case-by-case basis. To them, someone with a pre-existing medical condition represents heightened risk – the risk of falling ill while they are abroad and claiming medical expenses, the risk of requiring more expensive specialist interventions.

Those risks are simply categorized by the condition. Whatever the condition, that’s the additional charge (if they even agree to offer cover for it at all). And everyone with that condition has to pay that same price.

It’s also the case that certain medical conditions attract much higher premiums than others. Cancer is right at the top of that list.

This is all commonplace in the travel insurance sector, but it’s by no means universal. There are providers who specialize in medical travel insurance, i.e. policies specifically geared for people with long-term medical conditions.

The Difference Between The Travel Insurance And Medical Insurance

The big difference in how these niche providers operate is that they do take the health of the individual into consideration. This is usually done by means of a simple medical questionnaire.

Prospective customers will be asked about their medical history, what condition (or conditions) they are currently living with, how it is managed, what medication they are on, their current state of health, etc.

From this information, medical travel insurance providers are the best insurance for cancer patients and are able to do two things. One, they can make a fairer evaluation of the risk an individual actually poses.

So for cancer patients, if they are in remission or if their symptoms are well managed and they are in good health, they can be offered a policy at a fair price.

The insurer understands it isn’t simply cancer that poses the risk – it’s the individual circumstances of the patient. Second, knowing something about the medical background of the individual means specialist insurers can offer policies tailored to their needs.

Although all travel insurance includes cover for medical costs, this is generally only for generic emergency treatments, not interventions specific to a particular condition.

What If You’re Diagnosed With Cancer After You Purchase Travel Insurance?

Imagine you and your spouse decide to take a Paris trip to commemorate your 25th wedding anniversary. To safeguard the vacation, you also buy travel insurance.

Six months later, a regular mammogram finds a lump in your breast, and stage 2 breast cancer is the result of this discovery. You have to have radiation and surgery, so your eagerly anticipated cruise will have to wait.

When you’re dealing with a cancer diagnosis, travel insurance with trip cancellation benefits might be really helpful. Travel insurance after breast cancer cancellation benefits can pay you back for your paid, non-refundable trip expenses if your symptoms (or the side effects of treatment) are incapacitating enough to force you to cancel your trip and if your doctor recommends it. In this matter, you can reschedule your Paris trip after your wife has recovered.

Final Words

As a cancer patient or anyone else with a long-term medical condition, you want the reassurance that if you do fall ill on your holidays, you will get the care and attention that you need – and that the cost of it will be covered by your insurance.

Please remember that travel insurance can’t pay for planned medical expenses. Plus, travel insurance will not pay for elective care, non-emergency care,  experimental treatment, and long-term care in your insurance policy.

Grand Floridian Resort Studio Vs Deluxe Studio: Comparison https://www.instagram.com/p/BWbhLAml1RT/ Why do we need to compare the two? All the accommodation that is made available by Disney Resorts is amazing, however, there are several differences which make you understand the significance of the two. Learning about the Grand Floridian resort studio and Disney Deluxe studio helps you identify their relativity along with which one would you need based on the purpose and number of people. You also need to learn about requirements based on shorter stays and travel parties! So, when we highlight Deluxe studios, furniture that you expect there are king-sized beds, a chaise longue or plump armchair and velvet headboards. There is a lot of space to relax in this suite while in the Grand Floridian has several bedroom villas along with accommodation! Similarities Of course, location is the number one similarity between these two different room types. Although located in two different buildings, they are housed within the same complex, which is the Grand Floridian. Another key similarity is that both variations come with world-class service, which is only to be expected from Disney. Both room types also sleep the same number of guests, which is five. It is also important to note that the deluxe studio comes in two variations: the original deluxe studio and the refurbished deluxe studio, which was added in 2022. Both have the same square footage, which comes to a total of approximately 374 square feet. Differences The ambiance is among the top when it comes to the differences between these two room types. The resort studio comes with a crisp, easy-on-the-eyes color palette accentuating the view from outside, while the deluxe studio leans toward a more neutral color. Bed configurations are also different, with the deluxe studio having one queen-size bed, one pull-down queen-size bed, and one single pull-down bed, while the resort studio is fitted with two queen-size beds, which may be because the resort studio is bigger in size with approximately 440 square footage. When it comes to bathrooms, you will have to choose between having two showers and a tub for the deluxe studio or a shared bathroom with the resort studio. The resort studio also offers a view of the theme park, so if this is your preference, then definitely book a resort studio instead of a deluxe studio. I am also considering the way these two resorts have been designed to give you some of the best experiences of your trip! The studio rooms of Grand Floridian are a part of Disney Vacation Club villas. There are several pre-existing deluxe studios in the Grand Floridian Resort!  The Deluxe studios when compared with Grand Floridian resorts! It will all boil down to preference, but of course, it would be better to have all the cards laid out on the table so that you can consider all factors and choose the best one for you and your loved ones. Questions like are you traveling with kids? Are you with adults who prefer privacy to shared bathrooms? Do you want to have a theme park view? With the similarities and differences between the deluxe and resort studio all provided to you, it should help you decide on narrowing down the best option. Grand Floridian Resort Studio Vs Deluxe Studio: How To Book? https://www.instagram.com/p/BWzwCFUFjVc/ With how beautiful the rooms are at the Grand Floridian, you can expect them to sell out quite fast. Some people tend to forego the importance of this travel variable, but in reality, it is just as important as transportation and activities. Your room or lodging is the place you will come home to after a long and tiring day enjoying all the activities you had planned out, so you might as well make sure that it will be able to accommodate every individual in your travel party comfortably. 6 Reasons Why You Need Travel Insurance

BY  Abdul Aziz Aug 24, 2023

Traveling could be among the most rewarding experiences one can have, whether it's for leisure or business. The idea of discovering a new destination and wandering its streets is really exciting. However, before you embark on a fresh journey, have you ever thought of what might go wrong during your travel arrangements? Imagine arriving at your destination only to discover that your luggage is nowhere to be found. Consider the scenario where your flight unexpectedly gets canceled. The solution to these uncertainties is travel insurance. What Is A Travel Insurance?  Suppose you missed your early flight to America or forgot your bags in China- who is going to take responsibility?  Have you ever thought about the priceless money you will lose without a stable backup? Here is when the need for travel insurance kicks in.  Travel insurance refers to an insurance type that covers financial losses related to traveling. But it doesn’t end there. Insurance for traveling can also be helpful while getting protection for international or domestic travel. Other factors that might also affect travel are also covered under this, like injury, illness, accidents, etc.  Many travelers either forget to opt for travel insurance or purposely avoid purchasing it. In both these cases, you will have to bear the consequences. Regardless of whether you are traveling abroad or within your own country, travel insurance is an essential safeguard that offers multiple advantages. Why Do You Need This Insurance Right Away: 6 Key Reasons?  Imagine going on a fun tour with your friends or your loved one, and something unfortunate happens. Nobody would ever want that, right? This is why here are the top 6 reasons why travel insurance is important when you embark on any journey. Financial Security When Traveling Abroad Imagine a situation where you visit a foreign country for the first time and find your wallet or bags stolen. What could you do in this situation? This is where your travel insurance proves its worth. In cases of unexpected emergencies, such as thefts, your travel insurance company becomes your support system, providing the necessary financial assistance to address the situation. If you're uncertain about which service provider to choose from the many available, you can easily compare prices with Utility Saving Expert and find the cheapest and most appropriate cover for your travel needs. It Covers Medical Emergencies Every Travel Insurance policy includes coverage for medical treatment expenses up to a specified limit. These policies are inclusive and do not differentiate between various types of medical emergencies. Whether it's medical treatment or accident-related expenses, the insurance company will reimburse costs up to the predetermined limit. Moreover, insurance providers maintain a roster of network hospitals where you can receive the necessary treatment. If You Lose Luggage And Personal Belongings In case your luggage is lost or significantly delayed, whether due to your negligence or the airport authority, travel insurance offers you peace of mind. The policy will provide coverage for purchasing essential items temporarily while your baggage is located. While your personal belongings may be irreplaceable, your travel experience will remain unaffected thanks to this coverage. If the Trip Get Cancelled Travel insurance additionally safeguards you in cases where you might need to cancel your trip for valid reasons, such as illness, injuries, national emergencies, or natural disasters. With travel insurance, you can be reassured that you won't lose the entire sum you invested in the trip if it happens to get canceled. When You Miss A Connecting Flight When you encounter the unfortunate situation of missing a connecting flight, perhaps due to a delay in your first flight, travel insurance comes to your rescue. This coverage enables you to seek reimbursement for the expenses incurred as a result of the missed connecting flight. The policy would allow you to file a claim for the expenses you've had to incur due to missing the connecting flight. This reimbursement can cover various aspects, including the cost of rebooking your missed flight, arranging new transportation, and even adjusting your accommodations if necessary. Fraudulent Charges Imagine yourself losing your credit/debit card during a trip, and suddenly, you start getting texts that someone is using your credit or debit card. Scary, right? You are not only losing your money, but you are losing in an unfamiliar place where assistance might be hard to come by. However, with the safety net of travel insurance, you would not have to face this problem. Your insurance coverage will reimburse you for any monetary losses incurred due to stolen payment cards, even covering transactions up to 12 hours preceding your initial report of the incident. What Is Meant By Comprehensive Travel Insurance?  Another very popular type of insurance is comprehensive travel insurance which consists of various other coverage. They are generally grouped under a single plan. Very commonly, comprehensive insurance for travel consists of a 24-hour helpline for healthcare when some emergency arrives. Alternatively, you might be able to buy every coverage type separately.  Interruption Coverage & Trip Cancellation This particular insurance helps in reimbursing a traveler for all or some prepaid travel expenses. Under it come trip cancellations, travel delays, cancellations, and trip interruptions.  Baggage Loss and Damage Coverage A frequent travel problem is your personal belongings getting either lost, damaged, or stolen. It immediately sabotages your whole mood because you have to look for replacements. However, various travel insurance policies pay only for belongings after exhausting other claims.  Rental Insurance Thirdly, vacation rental insurance coverage includes accidental damage costs from a vacation rental property. Some of these plans might also provide trip interruption and cancellation that help in reimbursing travel costs, particularly when you cannot access your vacation rental.  Conclusion Whether you're preparing for a vacation within your own country or embarking on an international journey, it's crucial to consider obtaining travel insurance. This prudent step will help guarantee a vacation that is not only secure and trouble-free but also offers you peace of mind throughout your travels.
