However, the trails are in remote locations, and mobile coverage is limited in these areas. So, you must keep someone informed about your hike, and carry a Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) and an offline map.  3. Are Dogs Allowed On Hiking Trails? No, dogs and pets are not allowed on the hiking trails on Great Barrier Island. The trails here are ideal for wildlife spotting. So, dogs are not allowed on these tracks to protect native wildlife. In addition, dogs are not allowed on these trails to prevent the spread of kauri dieback disease. 4.
