Here’s what I’ve noticed in sticky climates:

  • Walking tours feel like a marathon.
  • Clothes stay damp and clingy, which is just irritating.
  • People (me included) get cranky way quicker.

Best trick? Save the big stuff for morning or later in the evening. Midday sightseeing in humid spots is just asking for misery.

Dehydration: The Traveler’s Silent Enemy

This one sneaks up on everyone. We usually think, “I’ll drink when I’m thirsty.” Nope—that’s already too late in hot, humid weather.

Watch out for:

  • Headaches or dizzy spells
  • Random fatigue or snapping at people
  • Dark pee (it’s a massive clue)
  • Weird muscle cramps

What’s helped me:

  • Chug more water before flying out.
  • Load up on hydrating foods, such as melons, cucumbers, and even peppers.
  • Toss electrolyte packets in your bag.
  • Keep salty snacks on hand for balance—nuts, crackers, etc.

The influence of heat and humidity on traveler can be massive. Extreme heat and high humidity majorly disrupt travel plans by causing delays, cancellations, and affecting health risks across air, road, and rail transportation. 

The combination of both heat and humidity can create a dangerous condition for both infrastructure and human health. 

Even a perfect itinerary gets scrambled when it’s too hot or sticky.

First things first, you have to check and monitor the conditions. Always try to check the weather forecasts for your destinations. As for the other routes, consider adjusting your itineraries to avoid the peak heat. 

Secondly, you have to stay hydrated. Drink water as much as possible. On the other hand, you have to avoid excessive alcohol and caffeine. These two can often lead to major dehydration issues. 

Thirdly, you have to dress properly. Always try to wear lightweight, loose-fitted, and breathable clothing. Wear sunscreen and a hat. 

After that, you have to be heat-conscious. If you are traveling to a significantly hotter climate, acclimate yourself by limiting strenuous activity during the hottest parts of the day.

Lastly, you must check your vehicle. This is not tough. You just have to perform preventative maintenance on your car’s cooling system, tires, and AC to prevent breakdowns.

Hyperhidrosis And Travel Discomfort

Here’s something that doesn’t get talked about much—hyperhidrosis. Essentially, it means your body sweats excessively. In humid places? Brutal. A museum tour or even standing in line feels like torture.

I came across the Center for Hyperhidrosis, and they’ve got solid tips. Simple stuff like packing breathable fabrics, always having water on hand, or even knowing where to duck into AC can totally change the game.

  • A wide hat + UV-blocking sunglasses
  • Cooling towel (seriously, it helps)

  • Electrolyte tabs or coconut water
  • Lightweight long sleeves for the sun without roasting

Spending five minutes thinking about this before you fly saves you days of “ugh why didn’t I bring that?” later.

Practical Strategies For Staying Safe

To avoid the influence of heat and humidity on traveler, a little tweak in the planning would do the job. Traveling in the heat doesn’t mean canceling fun! Here’s what you can do! 

  • Get used to the heat a bit before the trip.
  • Don’t cram every minute—build in shady pauses.
  • Sunscreen, always (sunburn makes cooling harder).
  • Listen to your body—dizzy? Nauseous? Stop.
  • Avoid peak crowds; they trap heat like ovens.

Making it one of the worst memories. So, it is kinda wise to check the rainy season prior to visiting that place. This way, you can avoid unnecessary hassles and know when to travel and what to do during this time. For instance, Bangkok’s rainy season spans from May through the beginning of November. And, when it rains there, it literally pours down buckets. So, be prepared to get stuck in some muddy puddles and flooded metropolis. Making it tenfold difficult to travel to your destinations or go for a city walk. But, if you are a rain lover, you should know about a few things before setting off to Bangkok. Here, I have brought you a complete guide on things to do in Bangkok’s rainy season. Stay tuned! Why Is Bangkok’s Rainy Season Considered Low Season? During the rainy season, the temperature drops to 26 degrees with humid weather. So, you will feel stuffy while traveling to tour spots. Moreover, the rain comes in bursts of torrential pouring. Turning the entire city into a flooded region. So, traveling or commuting becomes more difficult. And to top it off, the sky is mainly overcast with clouds all the time. Just killing the vibes. So, you won’t be able to enjoy the place. Naturally, this season earned the nickname of “Low Season” because of the mood-ruining weather and low tourist visits. What You Should Do In Bangkok’s Rainy Season? Here is a list of the things you need to do when you are stuck in Bangkok during the rainy season. 1. Wear Rubber Shoes The last thing you need is to walk around with nothing on your feet; wear strong rubber flip flops/sandals that are made for wet weather, and you will have no issues.  A sturdy umbrella is always a wise thing to carry around in the rainy season, while a plastic anorak with a hood will save you if you get caught in a tropical downpour.  Staying in one of the best hotels in Bangkok Sukhumvit puts you in the centre of the action, close to BTS stations. 2. Wear the bag around your neck and keep everything you need to keep dry inside. 3. Avoid Walking In Water Imagine being in the middle of a busy market, with stalls everywhere and electric cables in use; accidents can and do happen, so avoid walking in water whenever possible.  Some foreigners take off their shoes and walk barefoot, which we don’t agree with.  This is dangerous for many reasons. For instance, you could stand on broken glass, and a foot infection could follow. Thailand is the number one destination for wellness retreats. 4. Take Cover In A Shopping Mall If you are out and about and the heavens open, seek refuge in a nearby shopping mall, at least until the water has receded. A coffee shop would be the perfect solution, and they would welcome your business.  One place you should not take shelter is under a tree, as lightning is common in tropical storms. Also, you should not be holding an umbrella when thunder and lightning are happening. 5. Afternoon Showers Rain typically falls in the late afternoon, and when it stops, the sun quickly dries everything out, and you would hardly know it had rained.  It rarely drizzles in Thailand, the rain is heavy and the sun quickly returns. The exterior electrics in Thailand leave a lot to be desired and water and electricity do not mix.  Use your common sense when it comes to being in water and avoid any situation you think might be dangerous. 6. Use The Canal Taxi Boats A great way to get around in the monsoon season, using the electric boats is both cheap and fast; search with Google to find out where the different canals actually go. Bangkok has many canals that wind through the city, and they are frequent and safe. Rain And Bangkok: How To Enjoy A Flooded Trip? Even though the weather is not perfect, sunny, and beautiful one which highlights the natural beauty of Thailand, it is a peaceful time to visit Bangkok. However, going there without taking the right precautions can make it a frustrating trip. So, make sure you pack up your rainy gear to fight against the torrential bouts. Also, given that most tourists avoid the place during Bangkok’s rainy season, you will find the tour spots less crowded. Letting you to actually enjoy a place in peace. Guest speakers from Dark Ranger Telescope and NASA attended the “Astrofest Festival” at Badlands National Park this year (July 5 to 7, 2024). In this celebration of the night sky and astronomy, the guest speakers discussed various aspects of space. The 2024 fest included the following activities. Scale model of the solar system in the afternoon An early evening solar viewing program Guest speaker session “These are objects that have been important to our culture since we could probably talk. So, we think it’s important to maintain that connection and bring back that connection to these things that used to be so important to us for thousands of years.”Ed Welsh, the education specialist at Badlands National Park  The yearly Astrofest Festival at the park indeed has a role in making the park a favorite for star gazing and exploring the night sky. Also, the remote location of the park and minimal light pollution here make it a wonderful site in South Dakota for watching the celestial bodies in action.  Further, this park is a wonderful place to soak in the beauty of sunrise and sunset, making it the land of light and stones! The stargazing activity takes place near the park’s Cedar Pass area, which is close to the visitor center.  Further, the rangers inform you about the celestial bodies you will see. It is a privately owned facility in the Badlands National Park. This experience is about gathering more information by stargazing in a structured setup.  You must visit the Ben Reifel Visitor Center every day to learn about the program.     Badlands Loop Road Like many other parts of the Badlands National Park, the Badlands Loop Road also allows you to find your spot for stargazing. However, two of the best spots along the loop are: Burns Basin Overlook Yellow Munds Overlook These locations are especially great for taking photographs and indulging in tranquility.  Sage Creek Rim Road The Sage Creek Rim Road is one of the least crowded spaces in the park. You will also get to see very few cars passing through the area.  The Sage Creek Basin Overlook and Hay Butte Overlook are some of the best spots for stargazing on Sage Creek Rim Road. However, as very few people visit this area, you can find a stargazing spot of your own.  Big Badlands Overlook Big Badlands Overlook may appear last on my list of places to stargaze in Badlands National Park. However, it is the first overlook for someone accessing the park from the Northeast Entrance or the Sioux Falls.  Take a short walk and reach the best stargazing point in the Big Badlands Overlook. From here, enjoy a 360-degree view.  The Backcountry  The open backcountry of the Badlands National Park is a wonderland for camping and stargazing. So, just set your camp and enjoy stargazing for the entire night.  Watching Sunrise And Sunset At Badlands National Park The magic hours of Sunrise and Sunset paint the Badlands National Park with the most vibrant shade of red. So, many photographers flock to Badlands National Park’s sunrise and sunset points for the best captures.  Stargazing At Badlands National Park: Plan Your Trip Well  There are two easy ways to reach the remoteness of the Badlands National Park.  Reach the Rapid City Regional Airport and ride for an hour to Badlands National Park.  Further, you can reach the Sioux Falls Regional Airport and take a road trip to Badlands National Park. This trip through South Dakota will take you around 4 hours. If you want to have the best stargazing experience at Badlands, you need to stay there overnight. You can reserve a room at the Cedar Pass Lodge in advance or stay at the Sage Creek Campground or Cedar Pass Campground.  However, if you are an adventurous soul and want the most immersive experience, put a camp in the backcountry or the north and south units of the park.
