Being at Villa Lala Puerto Vallarta in Mexico has been the ultimate luxury experience for me. You know, post-COVID-19 scene, how we travel has changed massively. During the lockdown days, we have all mastered the art of Balconycation.

The balconies and terraces of our homes were our tiny little worlds and our only contact with the outdoors. So, when looking for a similar experience, we search for hotels and resorts that have balconies, patios, and outdoor places for relaxing.

At least I did so when I chose What Is Villa Lala Puerto Vallarta for my Mexico vacation. I loved the palapas and the terrace by the pool at Villa Lala, Puerto Vallarta. However, this boutique hotel, of course, is more than its terraces and outdoor living spaces.

Cachi Pérez, a local designer, architect, and creator, and his wife are the owners of Villa Lala Puerto Vallarta. He built it in the 1980s and named it after his mother, Eduarda “Lala” González.

However, he wanted this family home overlooking the ocean and embraced by jungles to be something more. So, in 2016, it started getting guests. It promised tranquility and started operating as an abode for couples.

In 2018, he started the first Love Nests, and by 2023, Villa Lala had five new Love Nests “hidden in the trees.”

So, today, the boutique hotel is associated with the history of the Pérez family, and each corner celebrates romance and love for nature.

Its ruins, though modest compared to other Maya sites, offer a direct glimpse into the region's pre-Columbian past. Further north, El Meco played an important role in Maya navigation and maritime trade. Located on what is now the mainland across from Isla Mujeres, El Meco was a key point on Maya trade routes, which is reflected in its imposing structures and pyramid, which still dominates the landscape. Therefore, the Fondo Nacional de Fomento al Turismo (FONATUR) program was initiated in 1970. Its aim was to bring rapid development and turn Cancun from a Mayan fishing village to a global tourist hotspot. With a clear vision and state financing, the government built the first tourism infrastructure. The first hotels, roads, and basic services sprang up, whereas before, there was only vegetation and deserted beaches. This rapid development not only altered the physical landscape of Cancun but also boosted the local and regional economy.
