I was standing near the mouth of the Rewa River to the east of the city. I was looking at the mangrove trees and how the villages nearby woke up with the first rays of the Sun touching the earth. People were busy collecting firewood, and some had already sailed in search of fish. Despite having such a distinct livelihood in Fiji, it also takes inspiration from multiple cultures and ethnicities. So, Fiji is said to have a culture of fruit salads. You will find people of Indian, Samoan, Micronesian, Solomon Island, Chinese, and Rotuman origins.  Furthermore, Fiji, fondly called Mini India, has taken another step to strengthen the connection. The Indian ship Kadmatt reached Suva in September 2025, and there have been ongoing discussions about maritime collaboration between the two countries.  With so many cultural aspects to explore, Suva, Fiji, also has many offbeat destinations. Local Cultural Experience In Suva, Fiji: Know The Suva Fiji Hidden Gems I was at the Suva Curio Handicraft Center in Suva’s CBD area. I found the most amazing Fijian handicrafts and carvings.  The woven mats were beautiful. Furthermore, the wood earrings and necklaces, and the traditional Fijian clothes, or Tapa, caught my attention. However, these were not just souvenirs. Packed with symbolism, those told stories of Fijian traditions and Fijian families.  Along with this handicraft center, I also explored the Namosi Highlands, attended local storytelling events, and customs.  1. Village Visits And Attending Traditional Ceremonies  My cultural exploration in Suva, Fiji, started with Namosi Highlands. As I reached there, the villagers welcomed me with the Sevusevu custom. My guide has already told me. So, I carried some powdered kava root and handed it over to the chief, requesting an entrance to the village.  Then, I attended the vibrant meke dance performance. The male and female dancers in the performance depicted many historical and ancient legends.  Furthermore, the village chief asked me to be a part of the underground feast, or the Lovo. Here, the vegetables and meat were cooked in the ground using white-hot stones. I experienced the true magic of slow cooking there.  2. They had amazing reggae music and the island jazz performances.  Also, the Fijian folk music and dance at O’Reilly’s was the biggest highlight.  7. Cultural Performances At Night The Pacific Cultural Nights at the Civic Centre were brilliant. These performances included fire shows, storytelling, and fire dance.  8. Food in Fini is flavorful, and the culinary scene here is a wonderful fusion of local produce and multicultural culinary influences. Café Thirty-One, just behind the Suva Library, made my day with the best coconut latte and banana bread.  My guide also took me to the Greenhouse Café, a vegan-friendly restaurant, serving amazing smoothie bowls made from local fruits. I loved the garden seating there.  However, if you want to try Fijian fusion cuisine and enjoy live music, you must visit the Bad Dog Café. I was relaxing after a bath at the Kuang Si Falls and suddenly, an electric blue dragonfly came to visit me. It sat on my knees for some time, and then came another. Within 15 minutes or so, I spotted hundreds of dragonflies making the trees appear blue. I was immediately transported to my childhood days when chasing a dragonfly or finding one with the most unique colors was a fun game. Suddenly, my guide called me and said, “Let me show you something unique.” He took me to the “Do Not Enter” board.  He asked, “Want to go there? There is a secret pool.” I said, “Why not?” I found out a milky-blue calm basin. Local teenagers were hanging out there, and they were eating sticky rice from banana leaves. They offered us some, and it was the best sticky rice I ever tasted.  Food in Luang Prabang is magical, just as is the Mekong River, temples, and Buddhist culture here.  While coming back, my guide handed me a plastic bottle. I asked him, “What to do with it?” He said, “Fill the bottle and take the water home. It carries blessings.”  Then, as I came down, I suddenly smelled the aroma of lemongrass and grilled chicken. I insisted. So, my guide had to take me to the local stalls. I had the best skewers there, and they tasted even better as I was hungry after hiking to the waterfall and having a bath.  The skewers were a little black on the edges, and that burnt flavor did the trick for me. Further, the aunty selling the skewers asked me to try the chili dip she had made. It was Fire and tears rolled down my face. She was so embarrassed! Locals believe that these monkeys were the spirits who guarded the waterfall. Also, I saw some local visitors leaving a few grains of sticky rice on the rocks for good luck.  Tad Sae Waterfall is great for family picnics and boat rides.  3. Furthermore, the golden deer is a common character in Southeast Asian spiritual and religious stories. It has a vital role to play in the Ramayana, and we get the mention of the golden deer many times in the stories about the previous lives of Lord Buddha.  In addition, the story has given the waterfall a distinct cultural identity cherished by the locals. So, today, the Kuang Si Waterfall is more than a waterfall with a grand physical beauty. Mr. Boun, a Kuang Si Park Ranger, told me, “We protect the forest and teach kids about the golden deer legend. Each side has its pros and cons.  So, a struggle to find the perfect accommodation can be a challenge.  Hi, in today’s blog, I will talk about where to stay in Istanbul. I have enlisted the budget-friendly, mid-range, and luxury hotel options in this largest city in Turkey. Also, if you want to explore nature-based tourism in Turkey, you can read my guide on Pamukkale, a place rich in historical heritage and natural beauty. Map Of Istanbul As a first-timer, the Sultanahmet Area will be the best place to stay in Istanbul for you. However,  I want you to be familiar with the map of Istanbul so that you can explore more localities.  In other words, if you are visiting Istanbul for the first time, you must explore the following localities.  1. Sultanahmet Sultanahmet is on the European side of Istanbul. As the heart of the Old City, it offers access to all the important historical landmarks.  However, Sultanahmet is touristy and expensive. So, as a first-timer, it may be difficult for you to connect to the city’s true vibe.  Still, it is at a walkable distance of major attractions such as the Süleymaniye Mosque, Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Grand Bazaar, Basilica Cistern, and Spice Bazaar.  2. Galata Galata is close to the Galata Bridge and the Golden Horn. It is a trendy neighborhood. So, you will find many cozy cafes here.  However, the hotel options here are a little less because it is a hilly region.  The places to stay in Galata are Karaköy, Istiklal Avenue, and Galata Tower. Also, don’t miss a stroll across the Galata Bridge.  3. Taksim On the European side of the city, Taksim is located on Galata’s north. Here, hotel options are diverse, and it has a vibrant nightlife.  Furthermore, it is a shopper’s delight!  However, with so many shops, hotels, and restaurants around and a vibrant nightlife, this locality can get crowded and noisy.  Nevertheless, from Taksim, you can enjoy a stroll on Istiklal Avenue, visit the Republic Monument, and the Taksim Mosque.  In addition, it is the best place in Istanbul to try local street food and enjoy a ride in vintage red trams.  4.
