Hola, Spain!  It’s always difficult for me to write about Spain, as I am so smitten with its charm; the “efervescencia” shoots up like anything! I am aware that overtourism is a significant concern in the country, with the number of visitors expected to reach 115 million by 2040. Additionally, ongoing protests are taking place in Barcelona and other parts of the country.  Still, the enérgica is not lost, as amidst all these things, there is news about the launch of the La Palma cable car project offering the best views of the mountain routes and volcanoes.  Additionally, the overall leisure tourism market in Spain appears stable, with a steady increase in international visitor footfall, reaching over 85 million in 2023.  Now, the unique landscape of Spain, including the mountains and beaches, has contributed to the growth of leisure tourism in the country.  While the mountains in Spain are beautiful, the beach tourism industry in the country is demanding special attention by adopting diversification, sustainability, and a zeal to explore new markets.  So, in this Tour and Travel Blog, we will talk about the best beaches in Spain. Playa de Mundaka: A Beach Inside A UNESCO World Heritage Site The actual name of Playa de Mundaka is Laidatxu. The tubular water waves here make swimming a challenge, even for the most experienced swimmers.  Further, the beach is in the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  6. Gran Canaria: Best Beaches In Spain For Families Gran Canaria is the third-biggest island in the Canary Islands. And how can you overlook Charco Azul, one of the most beautiful natural pools in this region? The sinuous lava formations here make the landscape surreal. Further, the sounds of the waves add to the drama.  Get into the pool through the wooden stairs. Also, I love Charco Azul for its inclusivity. Further, Europe's thriving beach tourism sector has strong backing from the European Commission.  The Commission supports European countries with beautiful beaches through action plans, smart strategies, and sustainable growth initiatives.  Therefore, it is no surprise that by 2032, the European beach tourism industry is expected to reach $357 billion. Now, as a traveler, if these stats look mundane to you (I love them, as I think traveling is all about touching and improving lives, and you cannot do that without an economic boost!), the glorious stretches of sand and the dramatic landscape give you enough reasons to plan a trip.  In this Tour and Travel Blog, I have curated the best summer destinations in Europe, along with the hidden gems.  So, couples, you know where you need to sail for some serious coastal fun! The Best Summer Destinations In Europe Beach: Forget The Count!  Think of the dramatic landscape of the Mediterranean Coastline. Some are sandy and fun, while others are gothic and full of drama.  On the other hand, the Atlantic beaches are full of marshlands, inlets, and barrier islands.  Despite these differences in landscape and coastal geology, beaches are among best summer destinations in Europe, thanks to long hours of Sun and pleasant weather.  Summer months are also ideal for outdoor activities on the beach, including sunbathing, swimming, and scuba diving. Furthermore, intimate activities such as sunbathing against serene water backdrops make Europe's beaches ideal for summer romance.  Moreover, I cannot think of a more romantic venue for a candlelight dinner than the Mediterranean beaches in Europe. Here, I present the beaches I have been to in Europe; while there are some regular staples on our list, I'll focus mostly on the beaches that impressed me most.  1. French Riviera: Plage Notre-Dame Porquerolles Was Our Sweet Spot ‣ Closest Airport: Nice Côte d'Azur Airport (NCE) With approximately 180 km of coastline, the French Riviera, the setting of popular movies such as GoldenEye and Hitchcock’s To Catch a Thief, is dotted with stunning beaches.  The over 90 beaches in the French Riviera offer an unmatched diversity. You'll find beaches like Pampelonne, where vast sandy stretches will grab your attention.  On the other hand, the French Riviera boasts Paloma, an adorable spot with its dramatic pebble beach.  However, we found our sweet spot at Plage Notre-Dame Porquerolles, a beach just 15 km away by water taxi from the French Riviera.  Porquerolles, one of Europe's best summer destinations, is a not-so-developed island measuring 9 km long and 2 km wide.  So, we started our day by bicycling through red trails. The eucalyptus trees on both sides of the trail were a blessing.  After the ride, we visited the contemporary art museum at Villa Carmignac and enjoyed the best rosé champagne and local delicacies at their outdoor dining setup.   We came back to the beaches by noon, and the cafes with the musicians playing the old-day tunes created the perfect backdrop for the change of shades and light play we were witnessing on the sandy stretches.  And it was sunset time! We knew we had to take a dip. We could listen to the cicadas' grinding and watch the last rays of the sun weave magic on the sand and water.  After our time in the water, it was time to head back to the French Riviera. We had a great time at the beach with memories of broken wooden chairs and weary bicycle stands as beautiful frames from a movie.  Au revoir, Porquerolles! ⁕⁕⁕ Tour And Travel Note ⁕⁕⁕ Don’t miss a visit to the resort town of Nice if you are in the French Riviera. It is one of Europe's best cities, with beaches and nightlife.  2. Amalfi Coast: A UNESCO World Heritage Site And The Prettiest Coast Of Italy ‣ Nearest Airport: Naples International Airport (NAP) The Amalfi Coast requires no introduction. From beaches with dramatic rocky coves to those with sandy stretches, every beach stands out with its unique appeal, and Mediterranean delicacies here are out of this world.  Nevertheless, among all the beaches, Fornillo Beach in Positano won our hearts. With its pebbled shore and fewer crowds, everything about the beach felt “intimate.”  It was our Punto Dolce, where we enjoyed every beach activity to the fullest. However, the highlight of our visit was exploring the nearby Grotta di Fornillo, with its amazing scenic views.  3. The Egadi Islands: The Best Fusion Of Natural Beauty And Ecological Attractions View this post on Instagram A post shared by Giovanni Vasta (@gvasta2) ‣ Nearest Airports: Palermo Falcone-Borsellino Airport (PMO) and Trapani-Birgi Airport (TPS) Also known as the Egadi Islands, these islands in Italy are among the best summer destinations in Europe.  Our destination was Favignana, with beautiful beaches such as Cala Azzurra and Cala Rotonda.  However, our favorite among all was Bue Marino. The rocky coastline here is unique, and we fell in love with the sunrise views.  We also explored Favignana and took a ferry to the Saline Trapani nature reserve. It is around 40 minutes to reach the nature reserve.  This Ramsar Site, and a protected area entrusted to the World Wildlife Fund, is home to the rare Aphanius fasciatus fish.  Further, we saw birds like the Saker Falcon and the Common Shelduck there.  4. Platja de Formentor, Majorca: A Calm Beach With Green Water ‣ Nearest Airport: Palma de Mallorca Airport (PMI) A calm “Blue Flag” beach on the Formentor Peninsula, Platja de Formentor is surely one of the best Majorca Island has to offer. The landscape here defines the word drama, and the sight of the Tramuntana mountains amidst dense pine forests will stay in my memory forever. Furthermore, the water's blue and green colors complement the backdrop.  The beach isn't very long, and we walked about 1 km to reach Cap de Formentor, the farthest point of the beach. We also took a ride on a rented sailboat. Catamarans are also available for rent. You can even try snorkeling for more adventure.  5. Myrtos Beach, Kefalonia: A Romance With White Sand And Turquoise Sea ‣ Nearest Airport: Kefalonia (EFL) Airport One of the best summer destinations in the world, Myrtos Beach in Kefalonia, Greece, has our hearts for its stunning natural beauty.  Awarded a “Blue Flag,” the beach features stretches of white sand with dramatic cliffs in the background.  The turquoise water also offers a serene view.  6. Hietaniemi Beach, Helsinki: Best For Summer Swimming And Beach Volleyball ‣ Nearest Airport: Helsinki Airport Hot summer days call for serious beach fun at Hietaniemi Beach in central Helsinki, Finland.  With its shallow water and picturesque setting, Hietaniemi Beach is perfect for playing basketball and beach volleyball.  Also, don’t forget to try the coffee and snacks at Badenbaden, the summer terrace. Want to try your luck at golf?  Visit the nearby miniature golf course.  7. Beach of Durres: The Most-Visited Beach In Albania ‣ Nearest Airport: Tirana Airport Durres Beach, Albania's most-visited beach, is also one of the best summer destinations in Europe.  Durrës has a rich history, with stories going back to 627 BC. The Roman amphitheater was also our biggest draw.  The beach also stands out for its proximity to the Adriatic Sea, a prominent feature in Europe's cultural, historical, and economic landscape.  Recently, the Adriatic Sea was in the news after a Riesenhai, or basking shark, was seen off the Croatian Peninsula. 8. Fteri Beach, Kefalonia: Romance In A Secluded Beach With Turquoise Waters ‣ Nearest Airport: Kefalonia International Airport Anna Pollatou With rugged hinterlands and candy-colored houses, Fteri Beach in Kefalonia, Greece, is the prettiest beach I have been to in Europe.  One of Europe's best summer destinations, this beach sits in a secluded cove with beautiful white cliffs and the bluest water.  Don’t miss snorkeling for the ultimate adventure.  9. Every day is a good time to visit the Eiffel Tower.  Thirdly, you can enjoy a fancy picnic in the Champ de Mars with all those Parisian vibes. Based on licenses, permits, and rules, your entry ticket to the place may cost you €14,20 to €35.30.       If you don’t feel like climbing up, you may stand near the iron structure of the monument. Now tell me what your visit to the Eiffel Tower would be like?  2. Colosseum, Rome, Italy The Roman Colosseum is indeed one of the best European landmarks. Firstly, the Colosseum gives a crude spark of ancient history. Secondly, it is a visual treat.  I can vouch that there is nothing akin to the Colosseum in the world. Meanwhile, do you know the history of the Colosseum?  It is a gigantic amphitheater. People flocked there to see live gladiator battles. I was mesmerized by the seamless Roman architecture and engineering marvel when I visited the place. There is a story oozing out from every wall you touch.  If you are imaginative like me, you might still hear the buzz of swords clanking, crowds rumbling, and the mercury rising.  When I last visited Rome, they had a Colosseum super saver offer on ticket options. Usually, the entry ticket price is 94.64 Euros. However, we got it at 44% off. Let me know the current entry price in the comments if you’ve been there recently.  3. Acropolis, Athens, Greece Are you a fan of Greek history and aesthetics? Then, nothing would seem more appealing than a trip to Athens. I paid for a trip to the Acropolis last year. So, I will keep it on my list. Above all, it is worth visiting if it’s your first time in Greece.  However, the Acropolis is no super-structure to amaze you. Instead, it is a cluster of temples in ruins and surrounding civilization. The place is 512 feet above sea level.  I liked the Parthenon more than anything here. My POV is the best sample of the inspiring Greek architecture. You should also know that sunrise or sunset is the best time to visit the place. The place is wrapped in marble.  The place emits a serene glow when the lush golden streaks of sunlight fall on it. It’s the same both times of the day.  4. Buckingham Palace, London, England While many associate Buckingham Palace with the British monarchy, it is more than just a royal residence. It is a cultural landmark.  On my first trip to Europe, I visited Buckingham Palace. I feel all travelers should also do the same. The Guard ceremony is something you can't miss. Plus, there is a lot more to do here. Strolling around the palace gardens or admiring the grand façade feels special. I think that is the best part about the European Landmarks. Most places are scenic and seem like an extension of nature.  What I liked the most was the regal British aura inside the palace.  5. La Sagrada Familia, Barcelona, Spain One of my favorite European Landmarks is Barcelona. I hope you also know about the legendary Antoni Gaudi, who designed the Sagrada Família. If you love aesthetics and found Athens praise-worthy, you will definitely love it here.  Usually, ticket prices don’t vary. But prices may be slightly higher during the carnivals. The baseline- thecoste of tickets will vary between 29 to 49 Euros. But remember one thing. The place is not free for children. Tickets for them could range between 20 and 42 Euros.  You need 2 hours to explore the space entirely. The spires and the stained glass primarily draw me. But it’s not just the windows. The complex facades also appeal to me.  6. Neuschwanstein Castle, Bavaria, Germany Straight out of a fairytale, Neuschwanstein Castle is as enchanting as it gets. Nestled in the Bavarian Alps, it inspired Disney’s Sleeping Beauty Castle, and it’s easy to see why.  The combination of its romantic architecture and stunning natural backdrop creates a magical experience. For the best view, hike up to Marienbrücke Bridge 7. Grand Canal, Venice, Italy Venice feels like a living museum, but the Grand Canal is the show's star. Gliding along in a gondola or Vaporetto offers a unique perspective of the city’s architecture, bridges, and colorful buildings.  Each corner of the canal tells a story, whether a grand palazzo or a bustling market. It is a slice of Italy you’ll never forget. 8. Stonehenge, Wiltshire, England Stonehenge is one of Europe’s most mysterious landmarks. These ancient stones, arranged in a circular formation, puzzle historians.  Was it a calendar? A religious site?  Standing among the stones, you can’t help but feel a connection to the past. Visiting during the summer or winter solstice makes the experience even more atmospheric. 9. Charles Bridge, Prague, Czech Republic Spanning the Vltava River, Charles Bridge is a masterpiece of Gothic architecture. Lined with statues and offering stunning views of Prague Castle, it’s a dream for photographers and romantics alike.  You can visit it at sunrise for a peaceful stroll or in the evening when it is bustling with street performers. The bridge has an undeniable charm. 10. Plitvice Lakes National Park, Croatia Nature lovers, this one’s for you. Plitvice Lakes National Park is a paradise of cascading waterfalls, crystal-clear lakes, and lush greenery. Wooden walkways wind through the park, allowing you to explore its beauty up close.  The vibrant turquoise waters are almost surreal, making it feel like you have entered another world. This is when the weather is at its finest, and everything is in full swing.  That said, be prepared for larger crowds.  This is when most tourists flock to the stunning sights of Italy.   If you’re looking to explore the famous Venetian canals, I’ll share some valuable tips and recommendations to help you plan an unforgettable experience.   Whether it’s your first visit or a return trip, Italy is sure to capture your heart!   Let me share with you the best and worst times to visit Italy and how you should plan your trip. I am here to share with you some of the best places in Italy and how to experience them if you know the best time to visit. How To Plan For A Trip To Italy: Get To Know What Is A Good Time To Visit Italy!   Do you know what the weather is like in Italy in October? If you are planning to visit, let me share with you the kind of weather you might get in October! Are you picturing beautiful Italian beaches, vineyards, or canals? But to experience these beauties, you need to know all about the crowd size, weather, and cost related to the trip. If you want to avoid the crows, you can visit between March and April and October to November. Apart from the time, it is also important to consider the type of vacation you are planning. For your next Italian getaway, read the blog in detail to learn more about the factors to consider when planning a trip. What Is A Good Time To Visit Italy?  If you want to avoid crowds in Italy, I just have one advice for you.  You should not go during these three months:   June  July  August  During the summer holidays, visitors like you and me can enjoy Italy to the fullest. Considering the low traffic, you will find good weather and fewer crowds during this time. Furthermore, you can enjoy some of the best places that will offer you an amazing dose of culture. Let me tell you that what we know as the high season of Italy is from May to September. And what's more, the time keeps extending every year. Another time you need to avoid is winter because there are huge crowds. Italy’s winter temperature is somewhere around the 40s and 50s in the south.   This gives you a perfect, warm, Mediterranean, and sunny vibe. You might also get snow in the country’s north during this time.  So, if you are planning to visit during winter, it might not be conducive to experiencing some of Italy's best times. However, if you really want to go during this time, you can go to an Alpine ski town such as Cortina D’Ampezzo, where there are several piazzas and hotels. What Is A Good Time To Visit Italy For Pleasant Weather?  If you want to visit Italy to enjoy good weather, let me share some of the important aspects to consider. If you love the sun, you should visit during the months of July and August, as the temperature soars then. It is a completely rain-free summer, so you can enjoy it to your heart’s content. However, several places in Italy can make tourists very uncomfortable. In southern cities such as Naples and Rome, temperatures can go as high as 100 degrees.  I like the sun, but I am also heat-sensitive, so if you are also heat-sensitive, you should avoid the peak summertime weather in these places. You can also visit the Naples Italy beaches during early fall and late spring to experience balmy beaches and sunny skies but no heat. This is the ideal time; the months of September and May are perfect for you to visit the country's southern area. Hence, going on walking tours across the historic cities and towns, swimming and sunbathing in the coastal areas; however, in the city, the temperature goes up to 70s and 80s. Another place that is perfect for visiting even during summer is northern Italy. This place is quite elevated, and Lake Como is perfect to visit during summer, as the temperature is about 60s and 70s during June, July, and August. What Is A Good Time To Visit Italy To Cruise The Mediterranean?  If you're thinking about cruising the Mediterranean, the sweet spot really is from mid-May to early October.   Just a heads up, though.
