What to Consider When Choosing Vacation Destinations For Families | A Travel Planning Guide
BY Abdul Aziz Sep 25, 2021
Family vacations may sound like a fun idea, but any parent can tell you that planning is half the battle. With the wrong plan, your reward is a chorus of “Are we there yet?” and days trapped in close quarters, instead of an opportunity to unwind. Even so, it’s clear that the right vacation can be a great way to make memories with those you love. One study even suggests that these trips can be crucial “happiness anchors,” or memories that can even help kids get through tough times. Of course, that’s only the case as long as you plan well. And choosing vacation destinations for families is a crucial part of that plan. How can you ensure that you’ve picked the right place for your getaway? If you're not sure where to start, read on for the tips you need to know. Choosing Vacation Destinations For Families | Smart Tips You Need Choosing vacation destinations for families probably starts with a big, fat family discussion. We play this paper chit game with the names of a few places written on them. Now, those chits are shuffled, and the youngest one is asked to pick one chit. The place written on the chit becomes our holiday destination for the year. Nevertheless, choosing vacation destinations for families may not be as fun as it sounds. You need to consider a lot of things. So, here, we have created a Tour and Travel guide to make your travel planning easy. Nail Down Your Budget For most families, one of the most important factors when choosing vacation destinations is budget. Take some time to figure out how much you can afford to spend on the trip upfront, as this can help you decide whether the total package will fit into that figure. From there, planning your family vacation budget can feel difficult or even overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be. Make sure to follow some basic budget-friendly planning tips like booking early or considering off-season dates. You can also visit some reliable discount sites to find affordable family vacation packages and other best deals. Suppose you’re on a tight budget. You can still find great vacation spots for your family by cutting some extras. For example, you may look for fantastic travel destinations with hotels and accommodations that offer complimentary breakfast during your stay. This will allow the entire family to save some costs on one meal each day, making the whole trip budget-friendly. Consider the Season and Climate Next, it’s time to think about the big picture: what general types of destinations are you looking for? If you’re vacationing in the winter, are you hoping to make the most of seasonal snows with some kid-friendly sledding or skiing? Or would you rather escape the cold to relax with your family on a warm beach? There’s no right or wrong answer, but having a chat with your family to gauge everyone’s preferences can help point you in the right direction. Thankfully, many beautiful destinations are worth seeing at every time of the year. For example, if your family loves to travel in the winter, you must not skip St. Moritz. It’s one of the most visited tourist spots during the cold months. Aside from the town’s snow-capped mountains and spectacular ski resort, you and your family can enjoy many winter activities when you visit St. Moritz. From ice skating and snowshoe hiking to relaxing spa treatments, there’s something for everyone. If you’re going to St. Moritz for the first time, check out some reliable travel websites to learn more about the place and what your family can do upon arrival. Think About Holidays and Seasonality There’s another type of season to consider when you’re planning a vacation: peak season. If you have younger kids and want to avoid the stress of a crowded trip, it might be worth it to wait until low- or shoulder season to book. On the other hand, if you want to make the most of your kids’ time off of school, summer may be the only time of year to head to their favorite theme park! Don’t forget to also think about holidays and festivals in the area in question. Are you looking to celebrate a family-friendly Mardi Gras in New Orleans or Rio, or do you want to head to your favorite mountain getaway during a local fall festival? Or do you want to spend the holidays on a private island to enjoy peace and serenity with your family alone? Make sure to consider these special dates as you plan. Factor In the Length of the Trip Whether you’re traveling within the constraints of school vacation or you have total flexibility to choose the dates, it’s important to think about the length of your trip. Even if everyone’s thrilled with the idea of camping, for example, is the area worth a week-long trip? If you’re planning a weekend getaway, will it feel too overwhelming to visit a huge city with a wide range of activities? If that’s the case, consider a vacation spot that can accommodate the length of your trip. But again, there’s no right or wrong answer here, but you’ll need to consider your trip’s timeline as you whittle down you're shortlisted. That way, you can get the most out of your family vacation without compromising work and your children’s school. Think About the Distance to Your Destination Any parent can tell you that there’s nothing worse than being trapped on a long drive or flight with bored and frustrated children. As you consider your options, make sure you’re being realistic about what travel times your kids can endure, depending on their ages. The goal is to find an area that hits the sweet spot between a solid destination and one that’s accessible enough to reach without added stress. Research Your Accommodations Even if you think you’ve found the perfect destination, it’s important to factor in the accommodations where you’ll spend most of your time. If you’re looking at major cities or if you’re booking far in advance, you may find yourself with a wide range of options to look at. On the other hand, if you’re hoping to get on a last-minute trip, a little research into the available lodgings may show that you’re out of luck!]. When booking a hotel or vacation rental, it’s important to consider the rental’s size, its proximity to your chosen activities, its rules and policies, and its site security. The last thing you’ll want is a cramped space far from your destination’s main attractions. For those looking to enjoy both relaxation and outdoor adventure, choosing accommodation that complements the destination is key. If you're heading to a mountain getaway, exploring options like Whistler Vacation Rentals can provide an ideal balance of comfort and adventure. With a range of properties offering stunning views, ski-in/ski-out access, and family-friendly amenities, Whistler makes for a fantastic holiday destination in any season. In addition, if you travel to the same common family-friendly areas—such as Orlando—on a regular basis, it might be a good idea to find a property you can return to over and over again. Check out programs like the Disney Vacation Club, for example, or take a look at resale listings for a budget-friendly alternative. Research the Activities in the Area If you haven’t consulted your kids up to this point, now is a great moment to bring them in for a quick family meeting, especially if they’re old enough to get opinionated. What kinds of activities would factor into their ideal vacation? Can you find a location that offers the historical sites you want to see as well as the theme parks or beaches they’ll love? The best destinations will strike the right balance between having plenty of activities for kids as well as great options for educational fun and physical activity. Set Aside Time For Choosing Vacation Destinations For Families Here’s the bottom line: choosing vacation destinations can be a trying process, but it’s well worth the time and effort. Finding the right place to host your next getaway is a surefire way to start the trip off on the right foot, giving you and your family ample opportunities to make long-lasting memories. Don’t forget to start as far in advance as possible for the best deals and options! Looking for more of the tips you need to make the most of your travels? Pripyat Visit Or The Soviet Union Through Our Eyes
BY Abdul Aziz Oct 3, 2020
Have you ever wondered what destruction happens to a city or region post a nuclear radiation accident? Are you aware of the Chernobyl Plant and Pripyat city, the site of the nuclear accident situated in the erstwhile USSR? Did you know that there are countless documentaries and movies been made about the Chernobyl disaster? There are countless stories and myths, which abound about Chernobyl. While some say that it was just an accident at a nuclear plant, others point to a warring country being responsible for executing the same. The nuclear accident at Chernobyl happened in the erstwhile USSR era. This was roughly around the same time when the Cold War was raging between Communist USSR and the Western Capitalist world. The stories, myths, controversies have made Chernobyl somewhat of an urban legend. Chernobyl has become so famous that it has been featured in a Netflix series. It has also started attracting audiences and tourists from all over the world, who want to see one of the most significant remnants of our modern history. An Introduction to Pripyat, the city surrounding Chernobyl Visiting Pripyat today we could only imagine that it was a city of opportunity, where almost every resident had a prestigious job and a promising future. This city is located on the Pripyat River, 3 kilometers from the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, has been prosperous and advanced since its foundation. Until April 26, 1986, when the explosion at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant forced more than 300 thousand people to leave their homes due to the threat of radiation. This is how the exclusion zone appeared – an area of 2,600 square kilometers, free of people. Before the Chernobyl incident, Pripyat was one of the most economically developed and bustling cities of the USSR. The trade, commerce, and lifestyle of the people were as good as it could get under a Communist regime. Culturally, Pripyat embodied the best of the USSR. The Chernobyl accident was a major turning point in the fortunes of the city and its inhabitants. The Problems faced by Inhabitants of Pripyat after the Chernobyl Accident Many inhabitants were forced to shift to government camps and medical facilities. They were monitored for radiation and many also faced isolation and therapy. Even after the nuclear winter ended, traces of radiation were found in water, soil, etc. The government could not ever settle inhabitants in the city. Many were forced to migrate thousands of miles to different regions, often starting from scratch. The accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant changed hundreds of thousands of destinies, caused enormous economic damage, and a crushing blow to the nuclear industry. In the shortest possible time, the whole city was to be empty, people were not allowed to take anything except documents. Visiting Pripyat now, we can see how much pain it was for people to leave in a hurry all their property acquired over the years. As Pripyat was a bustling center of trade and commerce, you can still see so many markets, big complexes, theatres, and auditoriums. Many historians have stated that Pripyat was as rich and powerful as Moscow was. However, after the accident, there was just chaos and destruction as far as the eye could see. How Chernobyl looks like today? Here is what you can expect if you visit Chernobyl today Visiting Chernobyltoday is like returning to the distant Soviet Union. Here you can still see elements of communist propaganda, personal belongings scattered on the streets, and abandoned buildings. The hammer and sickle adorn the lanterns on the eve of the May holidays, which were not destined to take place. Toys are scattered across the schoolyard, abandoned by children in the confusion. The clock in the city shows 11:55 – the time of the power outage. Visiting Chernobyl safe is possible with the help of the professional guides, who know all the impressive but at the same time safe places of the abandoned city. Chernobyl visit is available in several options: One-day tour (Includes 27 top locations, lasts for 11 hours including comfortable bus. The price is from 35 euro per person) Two-day tour (Includes 57 top locations, lasts for 36 hours including top comfortable bus. The price is from 95 euro per person) Private tour (No restrictions on the number of locations, no limitation on hours – one, two, or even five days in Chernobyl) Present-day Chernobyl: What is happening? Whatever tour you choose Chernobyl visit will give you an opportunity to see how nature conquers human error. Pripyat turns into a forest. Houses begin to collapse, asphalt turns into moss, houses grow into trees, wide avenues disappear. Visiting Pripyat, it will be interesting to see: Shelter "Sarcophagus". It covers the destroyed Unit 4 to protect the environment from continued exposure to radiation. The Exclusion Zone. Excursions along this area are conducted with visits to local "attractions", museums, and communication with self-settlers. Amusement Park. The official opening of the amusement park was planned for May 1, 1986. Red Forest. It has absorbed a huge dose of radioactive dust. Most of the trees died, and the survivors took on a rusty hue. The Bridge of Death. The townspeople came here to see the burning reactor, not knowing that the radiation level here was one of the highest in the city. Over the past decade, hundreds of thousands of tourists made a visit to Chernobyl and Pripyat. But, believe me, the emotions that you feel when you find yourself in this city cannot be compared with anything. The Final Word If you are someone who is fascinated by Cold War history or seeing the height of Communist Power in the USSR, you will love Chernobyl. Even though the city and the region lie in ruins, there is a quaint romance about the place. Describing how you would feel after visiting Chernobyl is something that even the best travel writers cannot do. Part of the reason is that Chernobyl and Pripyat remain one of those rare places on Earth, which can still give you goosebumps. You have a city, without inhabitants, you have markets without shoppers, and you have buildings without owners. BY Abdul Aziz Apr 29, 2020
With many natural sights, monuments, and other adventurous places, Flagstaff is the largest city in northern Arizona. Trust me, you’re going to find a lot of exciting things to do in Flagstaff. I visited Flagstaff last year along with several other best places in the USA. It was a truly exhilarating journey from Las Vegas to Zion National Park. Apart from this, I also had a great time on the Maryland trip. Now, in this post, you will find many attractive places with a variety of outdoor activities such as hiking, skiing, snowboarding, etc. Best Things to Do in Flagstaff The best place to start your Flagstaff trip is from the Historic Downtown and Railroad District. Know the other exciting things to do here. 1. Exploring Historic Downtown and Railroad District https://www.instagram.com/p/C-GKpULKpQx/ When you plan your Flagstaff trip, I would recommend that you start the trip from the Historic Downtown and Railroad District. I’m sure you’re going to enjoy the beauty of the town walking along the streets. You will find historic buildings that are now being converted into hotels, restaurants, breweries, etc. Even at night, you’ll find a crowd in the town. I remember when I came back from a movie show, some college students were out on the street. You can book a day or two of your stay here to enjoy the farmer’s market, local events, entertainment shows, shopping, eating, and drinking. The town allows easy access to many other tourist spots in Flagstaff. A wonderful park is located within walking distance of the visitors’ center. 2. Visiting Wheeler Park is One of the Best Things to Do in Flagstaff https://www.instagram.com/p/Ctj4PRiK9Ts/ Take a short walk from the visitor center of the historic downtown to get to this park. Visiting Wheeler Park is one of the best things to do in Flagstaff. The park hosts a variety of events, such as regular park runs and weekly art festivals like Park Art, Hullabaloo, and more. The park is full of trees that give you a green space to relax and enjoy. When I visited this park, a lot of people came with books to read, but my friends and I enjoyed a picnic in the park. 3. Grand Canyon Day Tour This place is out of town, so you can book a day trip to discover different historic buildings and hike in different locations. If you have time, then a day trip to the Grand Canyon is one of the great things to do in Flagstaff. You’ll find the El Tovar Lodge and the Desert View Watchtower on this day trip. You’ll get a chance to have lunch and explore the Navajo Trading Post. Usually, it’s best if you’re traveling in a group. 4. Walnut Canyon National Monument Exploring the Walnut Canyon National Monument is one of the most interesting things to do in Flagstaff. You might be thinking, why is the name of the monument called so? The reason is simple: the name is because this national monument is full of Arizona Walnut trees. This monument is in the East of Flagstaff, which has many types of plants. The canyon has more than 500 species of plants, and you’ll find various wildlife in the forest. Another interesting part of the monument is the loop trail, which descends along the canyon. There are several other trails around the Walnut Canyon, but the loop trail is the most attractive one. Along this way, you will discover 25 historical limestone cliff residents where the Sinagua people were staying in the past. 5. Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument Have you ever heard of a volcano eruption? The Sunset Volcano National Monument is a place in Flagstaff where you can discover the eruption of volcanoes. Around 900 years ago, a massive volcano eruption shook the city. In this eruption, a significant volume of lava was released and dispersed over 4 miles and coated 800 + acres of land in ash and rock fragments. It’s been a long time since this eruption happened, but today, you can still find evidence of the violent and destructive events that occurred. The crater gives you a perfect hiking trail to explore the three lava flows. However, certain areas of the crater are not permitted to be explored for safety reasons. Head to the visitor center, where you can learn about the volcano eruption and how it affected the region. Many visitors recommend exploring the crater, which is one of the best things to do in Flagstaff. 6. Wupatki National Monument Among other National Monuments, the Wupatki is one of the most famous monuments in America. However, this monument is abandoned but safeguarded by the Hopi clans. They tell the lifestyle and stories about their ancestors. To their beliefs, people at that time died here and remained as spiritual guides. If you want to discover the rich American history, then visiting the Wupatki National Monument is one of the best things to do in Flagstaff. Ancient Pueblo people built this monument. It has three buildings and 29 structures in an area of 35,000 acres (about half the area of Athens, Georgia). I didn’t get a chance to explore the place with the rangers when I visited. But if your luck is good, you might have an opportunity to discover the monument with the rangers. You can hike to some parts of the monument. 7. Arizona Snowbowl Scenic Chairlift https://www.instagram.com/p/C75FlFhpVmS/?img_index=1 Riding the scenic chairlift to see the Arizona Snowbowl and the San Francisco Peaks is one of the most interesting things to do in Flagstaff. If you’re planning your trip in the autumn (that’s from October to December), you’ll enjoy the scenic chairlift ride. In this season, the landscape of Arizona showcases different colors and is truly mesmerizing. When you reach the top, you will gain some information about the place from the rangers. Apart from this, you can enjoy adventurous activities like snowboarding, walking on the trails, and skiing. 8. Exploring the Lowell Observatory is one of the Unique Things to Do in Flagstaff Lowell Observatory offers you the opportunity to get a view of space through telescopes. Do you know that this is the place where Pluto was discovered? Here, you will find the original telescope that was used to discover the planet Pluto. Now, it is a working research center that is open to visitors to learn about space, the universe, galaxies, etc. I would say visiting the Lowell Observatory is one of the most exciting things to do in Flagstaff. The observatory also hosts different special programs that allow you to meet an astronomer or attend different events, such as meteor showers. 9. Flagstaff Extreme Adventure Course https://www.instagram.com/p/Cv-CXpCL-tn/ Do you like adventurous or challenging activities? Taking a rope drive on the zip lines in the Forthfill Country Park will pump your adrenaline. This spot will give you a thrilling experience by suspending between the trees. I had a fear of heights, and it was really challenging for me, but I really enjoyed the rope drive. Trust me, this is one of the most adventurous things to do in Flagstaff, in my opinion. If you travel in a group or alone, you can enjoy different adventure courses, from walking on the ropes to swinging between the trees. This place offers a different level of activities for adults and kids. 10. Camping At Lockett Meadow This is the most beautiful place to visit on the list of things to do in Flagstaff. This is a fantastic place in the Coconino National Forest, inside Flagstaff. If you want to visit this place, one day is not enough and, fortunately, you can enjoy camping here. The best time to visit this place is all year round because you’ll have a different experience in every season. You’ll find the ash tree leaves turning yellow in the summer, and the whole place looks amazing. Meanwhile, in spring, the entire meadow is full of flowers. 11. Museum of Northern Arizona https://www.instagram.com/p/C2nVq3esjJ_/?img_index=1 This is a place where you can learn about the history of Flagstaff. The museum is built on lava stone. It allows you to discover the dinosaurs, the geology of Northern Arizona, and the ancient people who lived there. In my opinion, this is a place that you should never miss if you ever travel to Flagstaff. Here, you will learn about the history, biology, arts, geology, and many other things about Northern Arizona. Along with that, the museum has a central garden that shows different species of plants in the area. Visiting the museum can give you some knowledge about this place. It is one of the best things to do in Flagstaff. Why Is Flagstaff Called a Dark City? Flagstaff became the official “Dark City” in 2001. On 24th October 2001, it was named the “First International Dark Sky City” because of the unforeseen work it did to preserve the natural resources of the night sky. The preservation effort was to ensure economic security and public safety. Also, it was instrumental in ensuring Flagstaff’s position as a “premiere astronomic site” in the world. In addition, it was an expression of community values. You can even watch the Milky Way in Flagstaff, and the view is stellar. If the weather is good, you will see the stars shooting one after another. Bon Voyage! Hopefully, you’ve found some useful travel ideas and unique things to do in Flagstaff. From my experience, I recommend that you plan your trip from October to December. To explore every place on the list and have a memorable experience, plan your tour for 10 to 15 days (about 2 weeks). As I mentioned above, you’re going to explore the National Monuments, a few parks, and more. Hiking, snowboarding, skiing, and rope driving are some of the outdoor activities you’ll enjoy on your Flagstaff tour. Also read Beginner Tips For Your First Camino de Santiago.
